I honestly didn't notice Moore's age in this film. I thought he was as amazing as he ever was. This is actually one of my favorite and most well remembered Bond flicks!
My personal favorite bond is timothy dalton i like the moore realistic morbid cold blooded agent as bond is in the books.:D and my personal favorite bond movie is license to kill from 1989 same year i was born In The awsome 1980s
Moor was the Bond I grew up with too. He was my fave Bond, but his movies were so schlock LOL. It was him, Connery, Brosnan, Craig, Dalton, Lazenby. At least for me. For the longest time, Connery was my fave because...well, Connery.
@@BigDaddyJinx ...Yes- Roger Moore's Bond movies definitely had some whimsical subplots, and a lot of "goofy" moments....a bit TOO MANY "goofy" moments, I think, in my opinion... However, I wasn't even in my teens when I first saw Moore's Bond movies- And my silly, immature mindset definitely allowed me to ENJOY most of those "goofy" moments, instead of slap my forehead and say, "WHAT the hell is THIS?" Another thing that helped me to look past the silliness is the fact that my dad would always chuckle and laugh when that stuff happened. And me, being his son, whatever HE would laugh at, I would laugh at.
I found this entry in the Bond series to be pretty good and perfect for Moore. I actually find the first two and last two films of his to be his best performances and most exciting overall. As always, another great video, Minty.
“Fill ‘er up please!” was the best line in the movie! The entire theater erupted in laughter and applause at that moment when I saw this! So glad it happened that way, well done Roger Moore!!
I watched this movie recently for the first time. That opening scene is awesome. I also think this movie while silly at times is still a top 5 Bond film. I also feel “License to Kill” is underrated along with Dalton’s performance. .. He’s a real loner, a rebel.
It was a bluff, and a joke. He was trying to get Roger back and he thought pretending to cast an American would force his return. Its all in the DVD documentary.
The funniest thing I heard about the making of this film was a quote from roger where he said “ when Louis Jordan and I both couldn’t get out of our seats to film a scene that’s when I knew it was time to stop playing bond” Rip Roger
Athos74oR3M I totally agree. I’m 43 years young. Roger was my generation’s bond. In fact the first bond I saw on the big screen was For Your Eyes Only and it blew me away. Even now so many years on it still holds up as a decent bond movie dramatically.
The whole thing about Roger Moore's age...I see it differently, I see him as an aging Bond with a lot of experience. M calls in Bond for the near impossible missions because he knows Bond will most likely solve it. He is smart, intelligent, physically fit and has never failed a mission before. So if you watch all the Moore films in succession then yes, he ages, but that's only natural. Bond is allowed to age like a fine wine.
It's also an unofficial James Bond movie because it doesn't have the theme music it doesn't have the gunshot opening sequence and the actor that played Q is also not in the movie
@@johnathanpatterson2847 I believe the title Never Say Never Again was a playful jibe at Sean Connery after Connery said he'd never play Bond again after Diamonds Are Forever
Never Say Never Again is actually a really cool Bond film unofficially or not because the fact that it has Kim Basinger as the Bond girl character Domino and the fact that the character of Felix leiter is played by Rowan Atkinson I believe that's how you say his name he was actually the guy that played mr. Bean
@@johnathanpatterson2847 Kim is good but Claudine Auger in the original is stunning and chic Kim played it differently but was also good but Claudine is Domino to me although I never knew Rowan's character was meant to be Felix Leiter, I thought he was more of a Q type character
I heard that Roger Moore and Sean Connery met each other in an airport during filming of their respective Bond films. The talked about what each other were doing.
Apparently they meet up twice during filming of both films one on location and again in London Sean said they should not get involved with the rivalry the press was making
Octopussy is one of my favorites, probably because I have a thing for jewelry smuggling stories. Any guesses what my favorite Bond film is? The other incident that occurred, which you can see from start to finish, is the yo-yo buzz-saw fight. When Bond pulled on the yo-yo's string and dragged the enemy down, the fall actually broke the stuntman's arm. if you look closely at him after that point in the movie, you can see a cast on his arm, which he cleverly keeps out of sight behind him and a scattering of chicken feathers and props/scenery. This was not Maude Adams last outing in a Bond film. She is an extra in "A View to a Kill", making her the only Bond girl to be in three Bond movies, but not the longest running female co-star (That went to Lois Maxwell's Moneypenny). There were a few things here I didn't know, so thanks for the info. Might see f I can find that comic. I know it has a certain art style more reserved for paintings, but it is at least unique.
Moore will always be my favorite Bond actor. He brought a unique charm and charismatic screen presense that few actors can ever match. I also admire Connery's Bond, but Moore's take will always be my NUMERO UNO. ;-)
My fave is Brosnan, although that may be because I watched Remington Steele when I was a kid so I already was used to him playing that type of character.
Mr Smyth i love the name its very similar to my name ever since A view to a kill i loved this name so as soon as the internet came about i used it but i had to change it slightly to singin smiley, we think alike, i raise my glass to you🍸
Switch your brain off and have fun with it. This is a good comment that can be used for most films. I appreciate your reviews, one feels your passion for films. Just subscribed.
Roger talks of sitting in the Pinewood Canteen watching Christopher Reeve walk through in full Superman costume leaving swooning females in his wake. When he did the same thing the next day dressed as Clark Kent no one paid any attention. @@TokyoJoe703
Nice one, Minty. Though honestly, I think the reason why they had no trouble convincing Moore to return for the 5th film ("For Your Eyes Only") is because it was a lavish vacation disguised as a 007 movie. Seriously, everything was so ridiculously laid back and chill at the beautiful locations that I think Moore came back for that one because he realized he'd basically be paid for going on a Working Vacation; with not too much work. Frankly, to say it's not one of the better Bond films is putting it very, very mildly.
Terrific video. This Bond movie is so rare and unique. The circus scenes always make me laugh. I’ve come to definitely appreciate it as a guilty pleasure. I’m gonna have to watch it again soon! Thank you for doing this video!
Roger Moore was originally mo favorite Bond. That's most likely because my exposure to Bond films was roger Moore's Live and Let Die. However on watching the first ones with Connery, I have to say it's neck and neck. I like them both equally. Thanks for these wonderful movie trivia videos. They'r awesome.
I always learn something new from you Minty. I remember when these two films came out. I was kind of done with the Bond silliness so I went to see the rival film instead. Saw this one much later. I would love to see you tackle some Dario Argento films. Maybe start with the insane film Phenomena from 1984.
I 've often felt that Moore era of Bond films were often hit or miss. Octopuddy, as I call it to make my wife laugh, was one of the good ones. I always make a point to watch it if I know it s on. Here s a bit of useless trivia Atari was going to release a 2600 game based on Octopuddy, I remember seeing it in the Sears Christmas catalogue for that year, but it was never made as far as I know. Thanks for making and posting this.
I' currently reading "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From the Making of The Princess Bride" by Cary Elwes. He was a production assistant on Octopussy, and one of his jobs was driving Roger Moore. He was terrified of crashing the car and killing Moore! "I could already see the headlines: 'Lowly Production Assistant Kills Bond!' During one of our early morning drives, Mr Moore actually looked up form his newspaper and said, in that very calm and collected manner of his, 'You can speed up a little if you want to.'"
Roger Moore..i have always loved his charming potrayal and the more humorous nature of his acting and script for that matter..like in Live & Let Die as when trap among a swarm of crocodiles Bond himself often the human croc manages to outsmart them..loved Octopussy too as that era is where i grew up watching 007.🤗
As for #6 Pre-Title Sequence; famous aerobatic pilot Corky Farnoff really did fly a BD-5J Micro Jet through an airplane hanger for this stunt. It is only for the interior close-up shots that the stage prop jet was suspended by rigging.
Hello Minty, love what you're doing. I punctuate my workday with your videos and I really enjoy them. Please, Please PLEASE do a video about THE FACULTY starring Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood bro! Thanks, because I know you listen your fans and you'll do it soon. Cheers!
I don't care how old Roger Moore was either, even A View To A Kill (which was better than the next 4 films) when he was about 56 was awesome and he still looked good. Moore is the best Bond in my opinion
I'm not even sure I've even seen Never Say Never Again! I don't even remember what it was about. But Octopussy was a trip, I remember EVERYTHING about that Bond film!
I always thought that Kabir Bedi (Gobinda, Kahn's henchman) would have made a fantastic Ra's al Ghul. Maud Adams also has the distinction of being one of maybe three or four actors to have portrayed two different roles throughout the Bond franchise.
Cubby Broccoli had Bros in mind to replace Moore after meeting him on the set of For Your Eyes Only, where Pierce's wife played Countess Lisl. I don't know if he approached him at that stage. I know Mel Gibson was. But he turned it down. As he did every time he was asked, up to GoldenEye.
He was almost out as Remminton Steele was struggling but when speculation came out that he would be Bond interest in the show spiked and he was forced to stay on
Pierce was offered to play Bond after A View To A Kill for the movie The Living Daylights. The contract was signed and early promotional shots where taken with Brosnan holding the gun etc...but then ABC extended Remington Steele for another 5 episodes of the last season and Pierce couldn't get out of the show, and Cubby said "no"...so Brosnan was out and Timothy Dalton was in.
Actually when it comes to casting Maud Adams as Octopussy it was actually Rodger Moore's suggestion. He felt that out of all the available women he was going to act with Maud Adams was his favorite. He stated that she is the best Bond girl he ever worked with and felt that she would be perfect for the role of Octopussy.
Roger Moore had great charisma, he was my favourite Bond😊I would rather watch any of the old Bond movies, than the new ones🤔 they are to dark and serious, the old ones was much more fun to watch, I can see them again and again👌
Thank you Minty again for a great video. Bonus fact: there was a plan to make a 007 film called "Property of a Lady" in 1991 that would have been starred by Timothy Dalton. Could you therefore do a video: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Living Daylights, please?
The Moore Bonds were my start my start with the franchise. This movie was my second one. I loved it and still love it. Seems without any preconceptions going into it, I thought the clown disguise worked perfectly. Honestly, with the need a spy has to blend in, it's the most practical disguise EVER seen in all the Bond flicks
Roger Moore will always be my number one favorite James Bond. Do "The Spy Who Loved Me" next. Moore's best bond film by far. Do it Minty. Love these pieces.
TBH, what I'd be tempted to do is... have Bond played by a woman, BUT the character is still a man. So you'd have two women on-screen in a sex scene, but it wouldn't be portraying lesbian sex since James Bond would still be a man, just played by a woman. Let's see them try to decode that. OR, obviously, Idris Elba playing James Bond, but James Bond is still White. This would only be implied by certain characters in off-hand comments that don't really make sense until you realize the character of James Bond still isn't meant to be Black just because Idris Elba is playing him. TBH, race and all that aside, I'm not sure I really see Idris Elba playing Bond... then again, Craig isn't exactly a conventional Bond either but I still think he plays him well so who knows. Or less ironically, I would be legitimately interested in just saying fuck it and have Chow Yun-fat play James Bond. Give John Woo a go at making a Bond film. It would almost certainly be entertaining.
For the Moore fans, I thought his autobiography "My Word is My Bond" was really good. It goes from WWII when he was growing up poor in London, through his whole film career, and then he gives the most attention to the charity work he did in his later years (Unicef, I think?). You can tell he really cared about it.
Christopher Reeve at first used his real hair for I and II, but later opted for a wig in III and IV as Christopher Reeve had problems with his hairline.
I was in my 30s before I discovered that Connery wore a wig for every Bond movie he was in because he was bald as Hell. Sometimes you just don't know these things, or don't care enough to know and then are amazed and bewildered when you do find out. I always wondered about Connery's hair in NSNA but it never occurred to me it was a wig/hairpiece.
Connery did not seem to wear a wig though critics claim he did.In a photo during the filming of "You Only Live Twice", one can easily see his bald patches covered up neatly....
First Bond movie I watched as a kid (on TV). I love how the story is dark and grim, but told in a goofy way. It was one of Moore's finest. And yes, Barbara Carrera was awesome as Fatima Blush.
I'm new to the channel and have been having fun going through, oh, so many videos. Octopussy always reminds me of the Tom Selleck movie - Her Alibi. I think it's the clowns. Her Alibi is like Selleck's comedic take on James Bond crossed with Murder She Wrote, and it certainly deserves the Minty treatment! Please, Minty, review Her Alibi!
BEFORE I start watching your video, I would like to say just one thing: "That's my little octopussy." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yea, I admit it, I turn into a 15 year old whenever I watch that scene.😁😬😉🤣
Reading all the books then the movies and seeing the differences is just amazing! Casino Royal is the 1st Bond film but is one of the more recent films.... The whole universe is just amazing! Thank you Minty!
If you ever go to Uadipur (the Indian island resort featured in the film) they play this film every evening for tourists. You can not only stay at the wonderful hotel but rent the boat featured in the final scene.
