The fact that so many people are terrified of credit cards but use their debit card everywhere is mind-boggling. Dealing with getting money back from a debit scam sucks hard. With a credit card scam, the biggest annoyance is changing all of the auto pays.

The one thing that you missed that is especially relevant when paying for gas is to make sure that you use the tap to pay feature if it is available because that makes it harder for them to be able to skim your information from your credit card. The skimmers that are most often used work to copy the magnetic stripe and not the chip. Everyone should also use this feature at ATMs in the few instances when you have to use them becasue they are often a target to have card skimmers place on them.

With renting a car you want to make sure the credit card offers primary collision damage waiver, if it's secondary its pretty useless because they'll go through your auto insurance first and only kick in if your policy is maxed out which is really hard to do

Just a quick note. If you have an old card and you are setting up a single monthly payment on auto pay to keep it active, make sure to enable notifications whenever a charge goes through, just in case someone manages to get a hold of the card information and charges it, you'll get an alert

I rarely use cash, but always like to carry ~$80 just because should never know when you might need cash.

I pay my car and home owners insurance for the year with a cc. It's an easy way to hit minimum spends on new cards and if I ever change my insurance you can request the remaining balance back as a check.

Though I usually get my gas at Sam’s Club, the other day I drove into a gas station that actually charged a higher price per gallon for gas. I didn’t realize the higher cost until I started pumping the gas.

With credit cards no cash advances that I know. 1. with Gas I use a gas station charge card sometimes if i'm not getting gas for the whole week just gas for a couple of days then I usually use cash but I get 8 to 10 dollars. 2. If I go into Pc Richards or Best buy yeah I use a credit card 3. I either use a gift card or my Chase Sapphire the basic one 4 . if i'm buying a gift card I use a credit card but if i'm buying grocery's then I use cash 5. most travel places don't take cash when booking flights , checking in a hotel, renting a car credit card only getting a cab in a different city that's different 6. Rental cars I really don't use but if I did I would use a credit card 7 I don't shop at amazon I buy from the malls 8. recurring charges don't apply to me for small things like car insurance, cable bill I pay with a check things that were left off what if you go to a spa credit card , debit card or cash? Getting your car oiled and lubed? Restauran'ts that charge extra for using a credit card? what should we be using say a local merchant Restaurant charges extra for us using our card some places are starting to charge 3.25% or 3.99% somewhere around there? what would you use? restaurants have been taking credit cards since the 50's Not fast food but sit down? this quarter Discover is giving us 5% at grocery's quarter one. when I get a haircut I use cash when I go to the grocery store I use cash when I go to a fast food restaurant i use cash

Another point regarding car rental, check your terms and conditions to see if certain countries are not covered. I know some won't cover countries that drive on the opposite side of the road from where you live.

For gas prices, many stations near me (especially franchised, see; Sheetz) including national ones, have loyalty cards that take 3 cents off gas which can cover a 3 cent upcharge on non-cash transactions. One problem I encounter is some pumps preauthorize you for like, $150 until it charges you the accurate amount which looks concerning on a credit card.

Nice video, much needed. If you’re using a debit and/or credit card, your best bet is to go in. If you do, you can tell them exactly the sale amount without a hold on your accounts and avoid electronic scams.

Here in Tennessee they don't charge you extra for using CC at gas stations.

Remember in New York it is ILLEGAL to charge extra for using a bank card or credit card. They can offer a cash discount but they cannot put an extra charge for taking a payment type so everyone gets the same price no matter what the payment method is. I had one place do this without saying anything and AMEX gave me the money back and I filed a report with the local attorney generals office and they did hit the owner with a fine for doing this. It was documented on the receipt.

I never noticed the difference in gas prices when using your card. The Apple Card is perfect for sketchy sites because you can change your card number after the purchase.

I prefer certain BP gas stations as they have the same price cash or credit. Also I use the BP app and pay with out sliding the card into a reader.

One you missed is rideshare. Uber or Lyft is now a bonus category on some cards.

For gas stations go to stations that charge the same for cash and for credit. This usually means corporate run (and not franchises) of Speedway, Kroger, Walmart/Murray, Bjs, Costco and Sams. Speaking of which if you have a Sams or Costco close by always go there for gas since they are always 20 cents a gallon or cheaper.

I suggest reading the reviews on the Amazon card. Lots of complaints from people getting their card closed for no apparent reason other than actually using the card.

So not all gas stations charge for credit card usage. In northern Michigan there is no separate price for using a card

Also, pro tip, with those sketchy websites, use a virtual number instead of the card number, so you can lock it after the purchase and not have to go through the hassle of ordering a different card if the site was fraudulent or got hacked. You should try to use a virtual number for most online purchases.

The Extended Warranty is no longer available on the Gold Card or the AMEX Preferred. Even on the Platinum card, it is only for 90 days. This is a primary reason that many people apply for these cards and it made the annual fee easier to swallow. These cards are not free. The AMEX platinum fee increased from 550.00 to 695.00 and the real useful advantages are disappearing. In place of Extended Warranties and Purchase Protection, you get small discounts on UBER, and similar services, or Walmart+. If you are carrying the Platinum Card or the Gold Card, these so-called benefits are not going to impress anyone. Most people either do not use these services enough to make a difference(unless you live in a Major City like NYC.) I don't know who is making these decisions at AMEX, but if these credits are an important part of the way that AMEX attracts and keeps their customers, they need to reinstate the AMEX EXTENDED WARRANTY AND PURCHASE PROTECTION PLANS AS A BENEFIT OF THESE CARDS.

FYI gas stations don't charge more for credit. Visa, MC, amex, discover charge businesses a fee to be able to accept payments with credit cards(usually 3%) they just pass on the fee to customers that want to use credit cards to pay for gas. That's how credit card companies are able to give cash back rewards by taking a % from businesses and giving a % of their % to their customers. Don't blame businesses if they don't want to pay your cash back rewards.

Funny you mention Apple products dying right out of warranty. My iPhone 11 Pro screen went out on my not even a month after the Applecare expired so I just ended up ordering a 13 Pro to replace it and eventually I plan to get the 11 Pro fixed and keep it.

EASIER EXPLANATION: Try not to spend more than 30% of ur Credit Limit & if you do, make sure before your statement closes its UNDER 30%. I’ve noticed when I leave a small balance like $30 by my closing date it helps my credit score jump more than when I use to pay it off completely.

I use gift cards for gas that I purchase with my Best Buy credit card, it runs cash price, technically it will be better if I buy them with chase freedom or discover it though, but I got declined for who knows why …
