There is an ALT teacher in the Interac North branch that is a father of two kids and is a Hokkaido ALT Union member. He appeared in the Hokkaido newspaper in August of 2021 speaking of the low salary and how he and other union members are trying to improve working conditions for teachers and thus a better working relationship between Interac ALTs and the schools they serve. Public schools complain about the high turnover of Interac ALTs. There is high turnover because Interac ALTs are paid so low and these ALTs quit after a short period of time to find better paying jobs. So once the managers at Interac North read the newspaper they were upset and immediately stopped the teacher from going to his assigned schools. They told him there are no more assignments for him in Sapporo. He is being paid to stay at home for the last few months. He is not invited to meetings and not sent certain emails. They are psychologically trying to break him and get him to quit. He consulted with a lawyer and the lawyer clearly stated that Interac is power harassing him and it is illegal. He most likely will not have his contract renewed in April so I heard he is looking for a new job. Interac is a very greedy company and they truly do not care about the needs of their teachers nor the negative impact paying poverty wages has on teachers and society. Interac should be avoided at all cost.
Very informative 😊 Thank you for this video. Will be moving to japan with my future hubby soon. Glad I saw your vid 🙏 Hope to watch more of these so I could little by little prepare myself. 💕
@@TheseEyesSeeDarknessClearly7sadly enough I ended up choosing not to go. At the time it was early 2021, so Japan was waffling with whether they were going to close their borders or not, aka despite my accepted offer it was unclear whether I'd even be able to go. I ended up being offered a job with a US company, so I chose security and a definite income. However I've recently re-applied with Interac and accepted a new offer, so time for round two next year!
I am currently applying for a position as ALT in Interac, your videos have been very helpful! I was wondering, could you consider doing a video about working in multiple schools and how you've adapted to it? I look a lot on RU-vid for reviews about this detail but I don't see much content on it. Is it hard to work in several schools? Or if you've adapted, how was it at the start? Thank you again! This vid was so good!
It’s case to case basis. But guess what. I didn’t have teaching experience as well. I only experienced tutoring during my uni daysZ ✨ It still worked. ✨
Hi! Is it possible to apply as an ALT in Japan when you are in the Philippines and you finished a degree not related to Education? Thank you and have a good day ahead!
I am not very much updated with the list of allowed degrees. They seem to change from time to time. Please check the list for a more correct info. ☺️ Also, there are other companies out there who are accepting applications from the Philippines. ✨
Hello DM! It depends on how many you are in your batch. The ALTs who arrived 2 weeks before us they had a week of training while we only had 3 days of training since there were only 5 of us who arrived at the same time. ✨
Uhm, honestly, I don't particularly remember anything like that since the manager assured me that I have a fair schedule that allows me to at least have 1 hour of lunch break. ✨
From what I take from this... You need to adhere to Japanese social norms while working in Japan... Sounds reasonable, like when in Rome do as the Romans do
I wouldn’t recommend working as an Interac ALT, just as an ALT for that matter, even to my worst enemy. People need to stop glorifying shit tier company and job where you will be overworked, underpaid and basically squeezed off every ounce of money out of you.
Sorry that you had a terrible experience during your time. 😌 I hope you were able to find a much nicer place. ✨ even with my other workmates they have negative stories as well. Some were lucky depending on the managers, for others it was a nightmare. 🥲 I’m grateful I had a good experience.
