Taking your boat to The Bahamas means you have some paperwork to do for Customs and Immigration. You'll need to think about money, cell phones and what to take for spare parts. Marinas don't typically have pump out stations so your boat has be be able to dump waste overboard. As first-timers, we leaned heavily on Google and other boaters. Calling the relevant government departments is a good idea too! In this episode we cover 10 things that will help make your visit go more smoothly. Helpful links below.

I have to admit - Chris is my favorite dude on cruising channels in history. The personality and quick quips are absolutely amazing. I cannot stop laughing at the end when he asks for 1 thing they should have done before going to the Bahamas, and Sandra names about 5. Then he ends it with "what's one thing". Tears in my eyes. I keep replaying it! Chris Forever!

There is very little agriculture in the Bahamas. Don't feel bad about not supporting the local economy. In the smaller islands groceries come on the mail boat once a week, and may be 2 weeks old depending on the route of the boat. If you are staying a while in the Abacos, make friends with the store manager and reserve what he/she recommends. Marsh Harbor is the exception with a big store (Maxwell's) with frequent supplies. Special treat-- try local bread. Most"bakeries" are the kitchen window of a house with a sign.

@@gothatawaychrisandsandra We are on the fence about the Bahamas. First on our list is to do a summertime tour of the Trent Severn. Would like to take a couple months, leave Hammond and make our leisurely way over to and through the Trent but that’s about 5 years out. Have to wait for Jen to retire for that one.

Always good to hear what we would do differently, good info. Wife told me, AC and ice maker is a must.

Yes! This winter was a bit cooler according to the locals. We didn't feel the need for AC until the last week when they declared an emergency because of the heat. Boy, was it hot!!! If it was even 10 degrees hotter than we experienced then I'd say AC is a must...but we were seeing 25 degrees more that last week. More than 104F. Even now in Florida, I'm dying...as we wait the next few days for our marine portable unit. Let it be known, however, that my temperature range of comfort has always been small. I have had to be careful on back country trips in the past.

So you guys have used cell service for internet access for your whole loop? Has that been adequate for you? Even in some of the more remote southern river areas and Georgian Bay?

Chris had to put the antennae up a few feet in our anchorage in the Bustards. There was maybe 5 minutes somewhere on the Mississippi where we lost connection. I can't think of anywhere else where it was a problem. We use a Pepe Wave router with SIM card that shares data from our Telus plan...T mobile seems to be the carrier it hooked up to in the US. And we swapped out the SIM card in the Bahamas for one from Aliv. Tremendous coverage there. Lost connection in the middle section of the Atlantic Crossing and the Gulf Crossing of course.
