No we didn't. Did we need to? I didn't think so. Our unit falls under the weight minimum to require it to be licenced. It was a state park here though, that didn't occur to us to ask about it there. National parks in Canada restrict their usage. So if we flew it and we weren't supposed to...oops. We learn as we go and tend not to fly it in busy areas. The drone itself has software that won't let it fly if we are near restricted areas like airports. We haven't flown it in quite a while.
Don't remember, but think you got a new engine in subsequent video. Found out a few years ago, Evinrude and Johnsons don't like to idle in gear. Not sure all the issues you were having, but popping into neutral when slowing down may have alleviated some of that. Which is poor design if you need to idle into a place. And yes, I'm binge watching these older videos this weekend.
Watching these older videos has been enlightening. Think the 1st one of yours I saw was either on the Mississippi or Lake Barkley. I seemed you were riding Chris pretty hard (trouble w the marriage savers) and I thought I couldn't live like that. Think you explained what was going on in later video. But boat reno showed how well the 2 of you work together. Guess there's a learning curve for people that you allow to have a peek into all parts of your life
@johnmarschalk1977 Sandra here. Not sure which video that was. We lost the signal between our headsets when we were trying to pick up a mooring ball in Chicago, though. In retrospect, it was pretty funny. Our daughter was with us and she was part of the "show"! 😂
Again, watching older videos. So was the sound drop out because of your cussing and screaming Sandra? I know Chris has never said a bad word in his life. LOL HAHA
Watching some of your older videos. Couldn't figure out what a deckle was. Obviously, I don't speak Canadian!!! And I'm from the south so we say Dee-Cal. Learn something new everyday
Ha! Don't feel bad...I was pronouncing Charlevoix "Sharle -vwa" (with the french accent) all the way down Lake Michigan until some helpful viewers set me straight! ;)
Glad you got it done Cap! A portable ,manual Whale gusher pump is great to have on board as a spare- it'll pump out your waste tank as well as bilges etc..Mount it on a short piece of board and good to go.
That "oooh Jesus!" took me straight back to sitting on a shop floor next to a van, from under whence dad's legs protruded, holding three wrenches. Glad you sorted out your ... waste compactor
@@gothatawaychrisandsandra LOL! If/when I sell house in Houston and find a boat, the absolute very first thing I'm headed for is that impeller, regardless of anything else!...LOL!
@@theabsolutetruth2024 Smart! We haven't yet bought a new impeller, but we are back in Florida, so no need for it at the moment...but it is definitely on the list!
Wow! The color of that water is SO inviting 😅 I don't know if i would be doing anything but snorkeling 😅 Y'all are so persistent with those boat fixes 👍Thanks for sharing😘
@@gothatawaychrisandsandra no worries! I get it! Just catching up with a few of my favs also and going to check out rest of the week as family come to visit us for the 1st time :) Safe travels!
I notice you use a tool, take the battery out and then put it back in. Don't know how long between uses, but doesn't seem like more than a couple minutes. Does that make the charge last longer? Just curious. Store some of mine w the battery still in. Mainly leaf blower, but some times drill
We don't always stay ahead of the charges. We might put a battery in that only has a few minutes left. You might be seeing that. Generally a batter will last 10 consecutive minutes running the wet/dry vac or even the heat gun, which we think it pretty good. Of course the drill in a few seconds at a time so that would last quite a long time.
There is very little agriculture in the Bahamas. Don't feel bad about not supporting the local economy. In the smaller islands groceries come on the mail boat once a week, and may be 2 weeks old depending on the route of the boat. If you are staying a while in the Abacos, make friends with the store manager and reserve what he/she recommends. Marsh Harbor is the exception with a big store (Maxwell's) with frequent supplies. Special treat-- try local bread. Most"bakeries" are the kitchen window of a house with a sign.
You are right about Sue and Brett They are from our Marina and our town Port Elgin .WE have been following Go Thataway .When we heard there name it was nice .We have been doing The North Channel for 35 years maybe we will meet up with GoThataway sometime in the North Thanks for sharing your Trip.
So I know you'll understand this. I live in a log home built in 1984. (Never build a log home in the heat/humidity/bugs in Georgia) Upper cabinet fell about 6 months ago. Built a frame to put it on to get it to correct height since I was by myself. Similar to what you're trying to do with that cabinet. Started to screw it into the backer board and into the logs and saw that they had the screws going into the valleys (rounded logs inside and out). It's a wonder it stayed up for 40 years. L off the main cabinets so they're in solid wood. New backer a little higher to catch meat of wood and longer screws. May need you guys to come down and help with other log cabin repairs for me. :)
Ha! Our log cabin construction days seem to become more distant every year! What a unique type of building though. In many ways, we had it a little easier as our logs were Double T&G D logs...so inside walls were always flat! Less interesting, but easier to plan for attachments!
@@gothatawaychrisandsandra friends son hand scribed light switch and outlet boxes to fit in the valleys which would have been nice on our logs. Unfortunately he was doing them anymore after I found out. Looking forward to the next videos. Watching some now that at least crossed paths with you on their loops
LOL. On a more recent video, I commented on how Chris was pretty handy working on stuff. I hadn't watched the boat reno videos when I made it, but they just started popping up in my feed. He's more than a bit handy!
I have to admit - Chris is my favorite dude on cruising channels in history. The personality and quick quips are absolutely amazing. I cannot stop laughing at the end when he asks for 1 thing they should have done before going to the Bahamas, and Sandra names about 5. Then he ends it with "what's one thing". Tears in my eyes. I keep replaying it! Chris Forever!
They will scam you for all the money they can get ! And keep an eye on your boat ! They will steal it and reregister it with a Bahamian title ! And there's not a damn thing you can do about it ! The thief's all have relatives in the police and Government ! So good luck with that !
Hello from Indiana. First time viewer but enjoyed this and will definitely watch the series. My question is being Canadian did you have to get a FAA part 107 certification to allow you to use your drone video on RU-vid as we do ?
Glad you are finding our channel useful! Our drone weighs 249 grams which falls just under the 0.55 pounds specified for regulation. We were told we were fine.
So you guys have used cell service for internet access for your whole loop? Has that been adequate for you? Even in some of the more remote southern river areas and Georgian Bay?
Chris had to put the antennae up a few feet in our anchorage in the Bustards. There was maybe 5 minutes somewhere on the Mississippi where we lost connection. I can't think of anywhere else where it was a problem. We use a Pepe Wave router with SIM card that shares data from our Telus plan...T mobile seems to be the carrier it hooked up to in the US. And we swapped out the SIM card in the Bahamas for one from Aliv. Tremendous coverage there. Lost connection in the middle section of the Atlantic Crossing and the Gulf Crossing of course.
@@gothatawaychrisandsandra We are on the fence about the Bahamas. First on our list is to do a summertime tour of the Trent Severn. Would like to take a couple months, leave Hammond and make our leisurely way over to and through the Trent but that’s about 5 years out. Have to wait for Jen to retire for that one.
This will be a very helpful video for those planning on the Bahamas! 👍Thanks for sharing you two!! 😊Who knows, maybe we will go around again and do Bahamas next time 😅 Separate freezer with ice and more money, got it!!😅
Thank you for sharing your journey and experiences and what you would do differently I have a few binders of info- and growing from all the different loopers for when I do my loop... not sure when.. I wish and you tow have fair winds and following seas.. slow easy travels take care.
Yes! This winter was a bit cooler according to the locals. We didn't feel the need for AC until the last week when they declared an emergency because of the heat. Boy, was it hot!!! If it was even 10 degrees hotter than we experienced then I'd say AC is a must...but we were seeing 25 degrees more that last week. More than 104F. Even now in Florida, I'm dying...as we wait the next few days for our marine portable unit. Let it be known, however, that my temperature range of comfort has always been small. I have had to be careful on back country trips in the past.
Loved seeing the Grand Lucayan Waterway segment. That whole development was amazing in its scope and equally amazing how it has languished mostly undeveloped and little used for decades. Sad you skipped Green Turtle Cay -- it is an absolutely charming island. Maybe you can stop there on the return trip. Treasure Cay was a nice place to visit but the marina is gone and many houses were ruined in the huge hurricane a few years ago. The beach there is still superb. Thanks for the video -- great fun to watch. The Sea Of Abaco is a wonderful cruising ground -- enjoy it.
The 13 kw bank has been amazing. I'll try to get Chris to also respond as he will have some pros and cons to add...mostly I just care if there's enough juice to do what we need to do (Sandra)
Hi, We are using the same LiFePo4 battery I installed back in 2022. So far the batteries seem to be doing really well. I have not tried to quantify any capacity loss since new but I would guess pretty minimal. we have struggled with the solar panels a bit in terms of physical damage but we seem to have sorted that out as well. I think our current record is 11 days on solar which includes typically heating a tank of hot water a day and typical daily life.
Just found your channel by chance and decided to watch. Imagine our surprise seeing our boat in the background when you anchored at Great Sale. We were the white Prestige Flybridge “Encore.” I actually remember hearing the radio call from the other Canadian boat. We only stayed one night and headed to Lucaya after that, going around West End. I was not brave enough to take the canal as you did. Worried about the shallow sections, but you seemed to get through just fine. We were at the end of our time in the Bahamas and are now back home on the Chesapeake. We miss the beautiful water!! Safe travels as you continue your loop trip.
Oh isn't that a wonderful coincidence. The boat that hailed us was Canadian. It turned out he didn't respond because his radio volume was turned down. Not sure if you followed the eventual conversation but he just wanted to know if we were headed back to Florida. It threw me when he hailed because we were clearly in the middle of setting anchor so we thought there might have been a hazard of which we were unaware
It was about 9 hours. For 3/4 of it Chris set the speed at 7 knots. We went a bit faster due to the Gulf Stream and some tidal currents working in our favour. We usually burn slightly less than 4nm per gallon. It was 60 nautical miles from our anchorage near the west end of grand bahama Island to the marina in North Palm Beach. So 15 gallons? We paid $6 a gallon in the Bahamas but it's about $4 a gallon in the US. We hold 300 gallons total and topped up over there with 100 gallons. So somewhere North of $60 to cross if you assume a blended price between $4 and $6 a gallon.
As someone from the south in the United States, there should have been a cup of sugar in that pot before you put the hot water in!!! Actually, I think my brother and I are two of the few southerners that prefer unsweet tea
Canadians usually like their tea sweet, too! But we drink a lot and the sugar adds up so we cut it out years ago. We put a splash of lemon juice in too - not lemonade, which has sugar. The Bahamians love their Arnold Palmers. The best we coukd do is ask them to start with unsweetened tea and a 25% ratio of lemonade. If I asked for lemonade wedges instead, they gave me lime.
We have the sena headsets. They are good but can be finicky. One failed in the first month and we had to replace it. The mic boom on one has to be reseated once in a while. I like them because there really is no danger of losing them if you bend over.
Ahoy! Love the look of that water, especially when Chris dives in and enjoys it so much LOL! 😅 Love that tea pot and solar shower also!!👍 👍 Safe travels!!
