I want to meet the woman who sourced, wrapped, and assembled your gifts. A woman after my own heart. Before my husband passed, I too would go into all of that detail. So I know the hours upon hours of finding and individually wrapping all of those gifts. And the thoughtfulness! Watching y’all open them, you looked like five-year olds on Christmas morning. Y’all should make a video to come out annually on November first, to show what real, heartfelt gift-giving should look like. God bless that woman and all the love she showed in your gifts. Well done, milady! Well done! 👏🏻
I grew up eating only margarine. Only got real butter when we went out for a meal once in a blue moon. I stock up on butter when it’s on sale, so my freezer is stocked up, and I also can my own ghee. So, no, I will not use margarine. Love your channel! 😊
I’ve been buying the 10 lb bags for years when on sale. I cut them up, thighs to the freezer for us - the legs get cooked and turned into cat food - cook up the backs for broth & then remove scrap meat to add to the dog food. Then I bake the larger bones and grind them up for the garden. Love it no waste, and saving $$$$$
I was born in the South, granddaughter to farmers. I knew the taste of fresh butter, and loved it. However, in one of my mother’s attempts to save money, she switched to margarine and never switched back. So I was raised on margarine and started buying it myself when I grew up. Decades later, I moved to Australia. With New Zealand practically right next door, no one I knew ever used margarine. It was butter all the way. When I got that sweet, creamy taste back in my mouth, I knew I would never (knowingly) touch margarine again. It may be indulgent to some, but I am a real foodie. Flavors are important to me. And I have never found anything that can even come close to the taste of real butter. 🥰 BTW, I have worked since I was 13 and had to lie about my age to get a job, and continued working until I was physically no longer able to. I am also debt-free for the fourth time in my life. God gifted me with overactive tastebuds, and I come from a line of amazing Southern cooks. I always try to make the best use of what I’ve been given. 😉 Phantom. Yes!!! 🎭 Keep offering your kids cheesecake. My mother gave me my first taste when I was about 12. I could barely keep it down. 🤢 Ten years later? The only thing that kept me from devouring it was the price, and still is. I maybe treat myself to two cheesecakes a year now. Sigh… Point being, tastebuds need time to mature. Don’t limit yourselves to only what you would eat as a kid. Try something new at least every year. I think God’s greatest creation (besides ourselves, of course) was all the food that graces this Earth. 😘
I get clearance French bread at Walmart for $0.44 quite often. I just ate French bread pizza for dinner with a $0.44 loaf. I did the 30 day free Amazon Prime trial at Christmas time. I am not much of a shopper, but on the rare occasion I want to order something, I wait until I have a $35 total to get free shipping. Or I combine an order with my mom to get the $35 total. Oatmeal is so quick and easy in the microwave. I add cinnamon and a banana. I don’t understand why people buy the packets or cups. So ridiculous.
We were out if garlic powder. I have garlic so I put it in the dehydrate when it was dry I put it in the bukketniw I havel powder. The dehydrate which I ve a million times was three dollars new at a church thrift sale. It was in the box with receipts and manual never used the bullet was a gift I buy must if my groceries when they are in sale with the pattern if the salesxand. It than. We have Shop Rite in the irtheast January and February are can can sales ever week fir these two months will have a great sale. This past week Shop Rite brand were .59 cents a can Ronuzini pasta ,99 a bux. It's a great way to stick up
I also had trouble with choking on food, or food getting caught in my throat. It became worse over time, quite scary and dangerous. There are a number of health problems that can cause it but, for me, raising my ferritin level has helped it to stop. Thanks to God for that.
Good bread is pricy but you cant beat the taste and texture. No, not ever will we eat margarine again. Fresh fruit and veggies are so good for our bodies. Eat healthy for healthy strong bodies.
I have all 3 of the cookbooks and they are more like a course on homemaking. Her recipes and tips are game changers. I'm an accomplished cook and own over 300 cookbooks, however since I began using these books my family goes on and on about my cooking now.
Anytime you get a foam dispenser soap or dishwasher soap it is a trick. It is just the soap dispenser. They use only one tablespoon of liquid soap and fill it with water in this special dispenser. I buy that dispenser and make my own.
I am a butter snob and am stocked up at 2.49/lb. Should last until at least Easter sales. Frozen broccoli and peas are staples in my household! I love easy microwave oatmeal, especially with a few choc chips, peanut butter, butter, or cinnamon sugar. I just put 1/4 to 1/2 cup in a bowl, put in enough water to barely cover, microwave 2-2.5 min. Then add a little water to desired texture. My favorite add ins are 1T pb powder, 1T cocoa powder, 1 tsp butter or coconut oil a few choc chips or honey. This could be easily cheapened by using margarine and cinnamon sugar.
All you have to do is pour boiling water over oatmeal ( regular or quick ) and let it sit for 5 minutes before eating . I use electric tea kettle. Also Blue Bonnet taste better on bread than Imperial . Yes here in Ohio , butter was on sale at Aldi's $2.49 Krogers $2.99 Bought enough to last til next sale and gave some to parents. I started buying butter when I noticed in on sale for $1.00 a pound at Thanksgiving over 20 years ago. Kept stocking up when on sale .
Hosted Thanksgiving for my first time. Cooked the turkey using your method. It was easy and a big hit! Even my mom, who was our turkey maker forever, liked this one better. It was so tender. Thank you, I love all your cooking and money tips.
I grew up on margarine. My grandmother cooked with margarine all of the time. Her cookies spectacular all of the time. She used margarine all of time and lived to be 94!!!
About the frozen vegetables, they're actually higher in nutrients (aka healthier) than fresh at the store because they're preserved within 24 hours of harvest whereas the "fresh" is days old by the time it gets to the store (nutrients break down over time) and then may sit in your house for a few more days. Read the ingredients and look for the frozen vegetables that contain only the vegetables. When I buy chicken leg quarters, I cook up the whole bag at once. I remove the skin and fat to make schmaltz (think of it as the chicken version of bacon grease), cook and bag the meat (husband and kids won't eat meat still on a bone, so this is my work-around), and make bone broth from the bones. 3 products from one cheap source. My kids play a game called "How much did dinner cost?" each night. I calculate how much we paid for the meal, and they have to guess. I give them a range of $10 (e.g. between $5-$15 or $10-$20 for "fancy" meals), and whoever guesses closest wins. It's a fun game, and it teaches them why we don't get dinner from a restaurant often because I tell them about how the meat was on sale, how I used the leftover ham bone from Christmas, etc.
I have collected cook books for years. Yours are my favorite. Yours are displayed in my dining room and I use them more than any I have ever had. I love all the recipes for dressings, tips, variations. There are even hair tips. I have made your turkey recipe 3 years in a row now. Even things in the cook books to make you laugh. Love them!
I used to choke and cough when I ate food of any type. Also had awful acid reflux. After testing I was diagnosed with GERD. Pantoprazole once a day is what works for me.
DAVE --- I found 2 quart insulated bottles with pop-up straws at thrift store. I keep it filled with water or Crystal Light. When the straw is down. And I knock it over in the car, it doesn't make a huge mess. I like the bottles better than cups. SAVES A TON OF MONEYWHEN OUT because one goes with me so I don't buy sodas on impulse.
I hear up water in a tea kettle on the stove. I use containers and prep 2-3 oatmeals at one time. 1/2c oats, 1c hot water. I stir and let it sit and bloom while I'm doing something else. I do add 2T brown sugar, but wait until I'm going to eat or pack my lunch to add anything else (spices, fruit, nuts, whatever). I'm a shift worker. When I'm on a third shift I eat oatmeal for my break. When I'm on days I can heat in microwave for a min or 2 and can eat real while I'm getting ready for work. I let them cool. Lid and stack in the fridge. I prefer containers that have screw on lids for this. 2 c containers are perfect for oatmeal and toppings.
I don't eat margarine, BUT I'm debt free except my mortgage and I stock up on the holidays when it's on sale and freeze it. I won't pay over $3 and I live alone. So my butter cost is relatively insignificant, I use the flash food app and regularly get produce and other items at at least 50 percent off
5 minutes into the video and you saved us money. We just placed an instacart order on Kroger for chicken and searched that deal and for us in Georgia it 8.89 for 10lbs fresh chicken leg quarters. I went and added it to my order plus the whole chicken is 1.39lb and I used to pay back in the 90s abt $0.69-0.79/lb. My teen son just roasted his first whole ch chicken tonight and is ready for more. (He wants to be a ched) Thanks so much.
thank you Tara, Mike, for the great tips as always. and you're right the bottom line is that grocery expenses can be $80 to 100/mthly per person -and this will comprise a good/healthy diet including your favorite items -if you do your own cooking definitely very doable (and it won't deprive you in any way, as a matter of fact we are able to get a lot), and I'm very thankful, we're blessed living here in the United States the work/and being able to afford all the basics (if we know how to save/budget/and be good stewards of our resources). we are blessed, thank you Jesus 🙏
Hello Kellam family and Jill. I Keep missing your live videos. Love love your long videos. Bought butter over the holidays for $1.99 a pound at ALDIs. I really stocked up good and froze what I didn’t use. Love watching your channel and Goshen. I learn from both of yous. Great info. God bless all!
I bought about 6 to 8 packages over the holidays to freeze while it was on sale here in MICHIGAN. Aldi had it for 2.99. If I need to buy margarine, I buy blue bonnet.
Eggs are good one month after the date stamped. You can also freeze eggs. Chicken breasts are on sale $1.49 a package this week. You can only get one, and I’m going to get them. Eggs are $1.49 a dozen as well. I’m starting to make sourdough starter for the first time. I’m also going to use the discard for baking and waffles.
You can always do the egg test. Get a glass of water and put the egg in the glass. if the egg floats it is bad and shouldn't be used. Eggs last a pretty long time. I have used eggs that were a month and a half old and it was fine. I always test if it is after the expiration date.
I was once given a case of eggs a week before the expiration date. I made pickled eggs. I froze a lot. I kept several dozen in the fridge for weeks. None went to waste.
Sometimes i buy several chickens when i get a good sale or clearance. Cut them up and package up meat portions for freezer. Boil up all the backs and scraps for bone broth. At times i can thighs or legs. Excellent flavor!
I have paid $3.99 to $7.99 for a 10 bag of chicken leg quarters and $5 for 5 lb of chicken legs. That is all the chicken I buy unless hubby just happens to want buffalo tenders. I found a bone in ham for $6.32. Cooked it for a dinner. I cut the meat off in slices. The rest I chopped and separated the bone joint. We were able to get 9 meals. We brown a little bit for breakfast so I don't have to buy more bacon. I hit the clearance rack before I check the sales. Love your channel. Been watching for 2 years. Thank you for all the tips. Sorry. One more thing. Red Baron pizza was on sale this week 3 for $30. Sometimes we add extra toppings with whatever is in the fridge.
1. I grew up on margarine. On another note. I made your pancake from scratch compared to the box kind from the store. The stores had no flavor! The homemade were flavorful and fluffy big! Grandsons loved them
I make my own dog food so I bought 2 turkeys at ALDI for .69/lb. Then our niece gave us the one she got at work for Christmas. All of them were around 20 lb. I still have 2 turkeys and most of our ham in the freezer!
I use margarine for baking and cooking. I buy butter on sale keep in freezer and use for meals like toast, potatoes, bread or rolls or what ever we use at mealtime.
99% of the time, our family uses margarine. Honestly, we get one box of butter, 4 sticks, but at a reasonable price. The one box of butter lasts months to use for certain things.
There is a discount bread store near my home where all there bread is really reasonable and you get a punch card after you fill the card you 5.00 off your next trip, bring it home and freeze it. 10:26
Safeway this week have boneless skinless chicken breast 97 cents a pound limit 10 lbs with digital coupon. I bought 10 lbs and my husband bought 10 lbs. Score
I grew up with margarine. You only are using a small amount on your bread or toast and if you use it in your baking, you are having a serving. We had frozen and canned veggies also. The bread thing is crazy !! Dave's Killer Bread is like a wishlist item for when I win the lottery, which I really don't do. 😂
Australia's land mass is nearly identical to the Lower 48. But what's weird is they have double the amount of desert but the USA imports a larger percentage of its food than Austrailia does according to Google. We have a much more accessible greenhouse located in Mexico 😂 Definitely please do the cost comparison. I'd love to see if the price difference is as severe as they say it is!
I use your money saving tips each week. We are debt free though, so there are some foods that we prefer, like butter instead of margarine, and I will try to get it for as cheap as possible. I do plan to order a print prince book sometime, but right now I don’t feel like driving across the border to pick it up. I will wait til spring.
I can get day old whole sandwich breads or ends (that people give their chickens and someone said their cow) from our local jersey subs here in kenai, Alaska, for free. 2 other stores has free or a huge discount on day old sliced bread and bagels. If I'm driving by I will stop by and ask. They seem happy to get rid of it so it doesn't fill up the freezer
Margarine and butter both have the same chemical makeup, but one has a single.bond where the other has a double.bond. The chemical formula for plastic is NO WHERE NEAR margarine.
Did they sell the high priced organic, gluten free, and protein packed kind of foods in the 90's or is this high priced special diets specific to the past 20 years? How can people afford to eat the high priced special diet foods?
I live in NYC. A friend her husband and three children ate their way into bankruptcy three times. Pizza $125.00 for a Friday night dinner with a few slices left over for next days lunch. . The parents didn't plan any meals both worked and every night after work it was as if eating dinner was a big surprise. It was crazy.
We grow enough food so that we can export. You can choose not to eat imported food and would still be healthy. Australia exports rice and many other foods to Asia and around the world, we grow more that enough food. We have very strict agricultural laws to keep our food contamination free. That is one of the major reasons why our food is desirable ioverseas as a export
Tawra I find mistakes at ANY store that I shop at. I check every receipt. Especially Safeway. Walmart I only use cash after being hacked. Their credit/debit is insert only. No tap. I find that odd also.
If I find great prices on chicken or turkey it is cheaper than our dog's food. We feed our dog chicken and turkey that we carefully remove the bones from.
I eat a pretty low fat diet. 4 sticks of butter lasts me at least a year. I still buy butter only when it's on sale. My fat comes from the chicken legs and thighs. 💪💪
I have bought leg quarters for usually 49 cents a lb at save a lot.I usually keep for like chicken broth for like dumplings.I have found lately the taste is just off and lots of fat...I'm not sure what's up..
Have y’all ever tried putting your advertising logo in the upper left instead of the lower left? On my screens at least, there appears to be so much more room for it. That’s both on a Samsung phone and an iPad Pro.
I only learned about yeti cups maybe 2 years ago and now first time I heard Stanley cup. Dang, I can’t keep up . Even at my local thrift store the yeti cup I see occasionally is overpriced .
Whoever pays 10 bucks for a pound of chicken breasts is crazy. We buy from a chicken production farm, you have to get 40lbs…it was $40 last time, 40lbs of legs $15 and thighs were $18. Yes we buy 120 pounds of chicken at a time and split with our family lol
Actually Australia can support itself food wise. Freight is what adds to the costs. 95% of people live on the coast. 5% of us live in the interior. I live in the tropical north. Many fruit and veg is grown up here as well as the south and coastal regions. Local mangoes are exported. Beef cattle are also exported and other food stuff in our area. I grow some veggies for eating myself. I’m vegan so eat mostly fresh wholefoods and eat very low carb. Eating low carb helps keep diabetes under control and also to loose weight. I am one of those people who pay $7+ a loaf of bread because the one eat is very low carb to fit my dietary needs. I cannot eat white bread because of the carb content. But I don’t buy sweets, cakes, pastries etc. maybe a show on helping people with chronic health issues and eating cheaply.. No Australia is a democracy but we have social medicine
Hello, I paid $7.49 for loaf of keto bread, I am pre diabetic, we make all our food at home. So, health wise I am ok with it. I will be trying to make my own keto bread this year.
@@patriciacooke886 yes , I use almond flour, coconut flour psyllium husk mostly for baking and making pizza bases, focaccia bread etc. I only eat very low carb veggies, no potatoes an only berries for fruit.. I also only eat one or two meals a day and find I am not so hungry when I don’t eat carbs.
I like to bone my leg quarters, the back sections, i take out the kidney for the cats, the bones, save for the soup to make, and the extra chicken fat, best way to make slow cook chicken soup, and that's the best you get, you get best thy meat for stir fry and legs are great for freezing in 2 or 4 pack for making fried legs. Or you can shake and bake the chicken legs and then put them in the freezer for quick warm up dinner.
Yay for you girl. I boycotted target the same time you did. I will not shop there and now this gay line of clothing for children. The poor children are just being beaten with this stuff and they are so confused.
You should video your shadow boxes you're thinking of making that be fun are due Room box summer make and decorate from kits semi make out of the popsicle sticks
