The main thing is - don't stress about any of it. Enjoy. Order what you like, even if it perhaps doesn't follow the typical standards. And...make sure you pick a place that is visited by locals. And when feeling adventurous...order something that you have never tried. Plenty of dishes are versy specifically Greek (and not often found in greek restaurants abroad) so plenty of new things to try and discover!

In Zypern spricht griechisch ist aber ein eigenständiges Land 😂. Die Küche und Gepflogenheiten sind aber gleich. Viel Spaß und genießt euren Urlaub 💐

Very interesting. Thanks so much for this. Sharing is good for the soul but if you're a vegetarian like me, it's not always practical. If everyone shares my food, I can't eat theirs and so I could be left with little to eat. Also, some people have severe food allergies or diabetes, which means sharing food may not be an option.

Don't be afraid and don't worry! He means "share your food with your family, your friends" - so, with people from your environment that you know! And he talks about dishes like salads and appetizers: dishes that are meant to be shared. This is Greece; you will NEVER be asked to share a table with some strangers (something that is pretty common in Japan, in China and in other Asian or Middle East countries!)

Excellent! Thank you, Thanasis. One question about wine please. I am widowed, so I travel alone and usually dine alone😕, it is great that I can order just a glass or a quarter litre but on each of my 3 holidays (2 times in Kriti, one time in Athena/Piraeas) when I ask for red wine, I get a pink wine, very strong in alcohol, cold and fresh in taste but I wanted real red wine. Only one time, in an upmarket(superb) restaurant in Iraklio, specialising in Cretan foods and using only local ingredients (I was dining with a "Foodie" friend from Athena), the waiter brought us the most amazing wine. How would I ask for real red wine please?

I'm not sure what kind of wine they brought you but usually when you ask for κόκκινο κρασί (red wine), they bring you one. The pink wine is called ροζέ κρασί, so if someone wants pink he should ask for ροζέ κρασί.

This with the tip to the waiters/waitresses is not true. There is no official acceptable percentage that you are to leave but everyone expects it.

Most important thing: If you are not a big eater you better go on a diet before going out with Greeks. They order too many dishes usually and if you are not hungry enough and can't eat much, you will have to pay a lot for some small bites. And very often much food is left on the table which will land in the bin. When it comes to eating, Greeks think large. I always order little, because if you are still hungry you can order more (fresh) food. I can't stand throwing away food. Well, I'm not Greek and for them I am "tsigounis". That's okay with me though!

Добре е за се знаят обичаите на различните народи при хранене. С гръцки приятели споделяме храната, в Китай беше като в Гърция, във Франция всичко е порционно на човек. В Москва персоналът в скъп ресторант ни вдигна скандал, че поръчвайки си основни ястия за всички на масата, си разменяхме храна от отделните чинии. Ядосано казаха, че това не е прието у тях. Ние не реагирахме на тяхната забележка, но после дълго чакахме, за да платим сметката, но те не дойдоха. Оставихме парите на масата. Лош спомен, заради наглото им поведение.
