if you’re worried about people judging you for your tattoo, people are always gonna judge you, what matters is if you’re gonna let that get to you or not so just get the tattoo you want

I'm fairly fortunate that the first the tattoo I got (Takes up my whole right forearm) was actually really well appreciated and adored by people around me. I don't know if that's common, but I do know that there are people out there who don't like tattoos at all and will actively shoot you down if they see a tattoo. And like you said, it doesn't matter what they think. So long as you love it, you rock it.
#10!!! Having a good meal and a snack during breaks really helped me. The body reacts to a tattoo needle like it's being attacked; therefore you're going to burn calories as your heart rate increases. Can't stress this one enough!
apparently works well for the shakes as wells, when i got my first i shook like crazy figuring it was the adrenaline but 3 sleeves later i finally went to get my neck and it happened again non stop twitching. could be i did my arms and legs myself and was more comfortable or i didnt eat before getting my neck. so if you get the shakes try eating or drinkin a sugary drink beforehand.
I have always wanted a tattoo, but it was drilled into me when I was little how permanent it was and was discouraged against ever getting one. I’m at the point in my life where I just want beauty in whatever way I can get it. Sometimes overthinking it can be just as harmful as being impulsive.
Yeah, my mum didn't get her first tattoo till she was in her 50s due to overthinking it and other people's influence... She definitely would've wanted to get it done when she was younger and more willing to show it off to people. ♥️

Everyone should stop hating on this sort of content. As someone who's into menswear and streetwear, and has a full sleeve, I think its important take these sort of things into consideration. We should appreciate this channel expanding their content, and it's a shame how conservatively many of Ashley's followers think about personal style and self expression - If you don't want a tattoo, don't get one.
My mom passed away on May 31, 2020. She went through alot of pain the last 6 months of her life. She said I was her lion because I fought with her every step of the way. She never wanted me to have a tattoo so I respected her. Now I want something symbolic in my forearm (perhaps a lion head with crown tattoo) and I WANT to feel the pain as a sort of “rite of passage”. Two kinds of pain (from the Equalizer movie).. pain that hurts and pain that alters. Pain that alters represents a painful difficult event or process that helps you become better. In this case, the pain is worth it.
i agree with you. i feel like if the art is strong a piece can be worn with pride without any deep meaning. But for some people they need some deep rooted meaning to justify wearing the piece for the rest of their lives.
I have 6 tattoos none have any meaning but I do want my first tattoo covered up due to it looking stupid now I had it done it when I was 16 and need my next I had done at 17 that could probably do with some re work 😂

None of your tattoos actually need to have a meaning :) As long as you're sure of what you want, go for it! I've had a general idea of a few tattoos I wanted and waited a year (maybe a little long but I couldn't afford it at the time). By then, I was absolutely sure of what I wanted! It doesn't really have any meaning, but I'm totally in love with it :)

The more I think about it now the more I realize that my idea fro my first tattoo is basically perfect. It's something that is important to me and I don't think there's any reason that I would regret it.

I am so excited for my first tattoo and I am glad my parents support me in this decision. I am still a little bit unsure because I want it behind my ear/ a little bit over my neck and I heard it hurts a lot in this place. Still I know for sure I want it and this video really helped me to stay calm, so thank you guys!
My husband and I each have a tattoo, not the same one or each other's name or anything but something that really meant to each of us, when I see my husband tat, my heart just melts, I'm filled with joy and love about it because it means soo much to him and mine he tells me that it just brings him to tears when he thinks about how happy it makes me, like when I look down on it and the huge smile takes his breathe away. Our tats means soo much to the both of us and I couldn't be more happy about what we share. My dad was against it but I over 18 and it's my body. So yeah that what I told him.

The first time I decided I wanted a tattoo it was cause one of my friends came into class and showed of a sleeve he was working on and I was amazed by it, I started asking how much it hurt and long it took, a year later I started thinking of a design, after two years I started pestering my parents about getting one and finally three years later see’s me with a totom style dragon with a blood moon backround on my shoulder and showing of my favourite birthday present of all time
nice video about something that falls into a very broad fashion spectrum. i would always offer the following advice to people : firstly don’t get something that someone else has , a tattoo that is original , personal and maybe very emotional will bring you joy for the rest of your life ... second be aware that social / professional issues may arise in the future and third be aware that a good tattoo artist won’t be cheap so don’t haggle .... My multiple tattoos relate to life , regiment , family and personal spiritual ties , they tell a story much like aboriginal art .. all can be hidden under my professional suit and tie , or long sleeve shirt if I feel the venue or clients demand discretion . I regret none of them because they are part of me rather than me living up to image of them ..

I am 53 and handle pain okay (average guy). I will say if you're a wimp, avoid the sternum area, if considering the chest. I, too, am 53 and did get mine there. Had to take two 10 minute toke breaks during my 2hr time in the chair. Lol
Go without cream it does nothing trust me u will feel less the needle puncturing but the pains is the same search what areas of the body to not do a tattoo especially sternum cuz even the highest pain tolerance suffer a lot go for ur back leg idk how thats called
My biggest struggle is I know what I want and where i want it but it’s quite large and since ive never had a tattoo before i wanted to go with a smaller one to start off, but i dont know what i want for a smaller one. And i turn 18 next month so looks like im going have to push through the pain of a larger tattoo.
my first tattoo is covering my entire calf and the tattoo artist was all for it as long as i understood that it’s going to hurt. so if you want it just be sure you’re mentally prepared and find a good artist. i’ve wanted to get mine for the last year and i’m about to turn 19 and my appointment is in two weeks. people (of course) are gonna tell you to start small, but i say if you want it why not pull the trigger?
Just subscribed. Watched your interview on Gentalman's Gazette. Great video. A retired sailor with 30+ years in the Navy and zero Tattoos. Been to many a parlor around the world, watched many friends get tattoo's, just not for me. That said, I do want to mention that really thinking about getting your first is very very important. Twelve years ago I lost my wife, thought about a memorial tattoo at the time. I asked several of my tattooed friends, all of them said wait, my best friend said wait five years, if you still feel the need then get one. I didn't have to wait those five. Life events shortened that period. I met my current wife about a year later. So glad I didn't get that tattoo.

Just got my first tattoo 3 days ago. It’s on my left arm / shoulder / bicep area. Took 6 hours to complete. Pain wise, it wasn’t that bad. The first 5 hours, was okay. But the final hour was torture for me. Overall, I sat through it, and I’m extremely happy with the outcome.
Nothing bad happened. The skin starts to get really sore after so many hours of tattooing. And when the artist wipes down the ink, the wipes start to hurt more too. 6 hours of getting tattooed is really tough.

I'm going for a consultation to get my first professional tattoo. I have two, one on each ankle from when I was a teen. One I did myself, the other that was done in a basement an paid for with weed. I'm so glad I got them on my ankles. I'm also really glad I never had the resources to get the tattoos that I wanted when I was younger. I'm 28. I love tattoos and always wanted a more visible one. I really admire my artist's work. She does fine lines and stippling. I've been nervous because I haven't met her yet and I was worried I didn't have enough reference pics, but this really chilled me out about it. Especially because she is known for her black and grey flowers, which is the element in my tattoo that I don't have an exact reference picture for, just pictures of the flower to explain what I want.. But since I like her flowers, I think it will work out.

What are tattoo artists thought on the customer having conversations with the artist while getting tatted? Is that something that should be completely avoided or is it ok to converse?
It probably depends on each artist honestly and also on the client, I imagine. Some people work better in silence, while others don't mind talking while working. Just check with your artist !
I see this comment is old but I just say for 6 hours for a session and I asked this question. He said you can usually tell based on the artist. They will be talkative if they enjoy talking. If they stop talking or don’t answer a question then they like to focus! Just go off how they act! Some parts the artists really have to focus
I’m getting one Saturday and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t rude to wear headphones. I’m not very talkative so I was going to just watch a movie or something to distract from the pain but I wasn’t sure if wearing even one headphone would be considered rude to the artist.

Tomorrow I'm getting my first tattoo. I've had this exact same idea for 4 years now so I'm excited. I'm an artist so I took to my sketchbook and drew it out and I'm going to take it in to show them so I'm not trying to explain what I'm wanting. Idk if people bring in their own art a lot but

I rushed into my first tattoo, I just kinda randomly decided to get it while I was in Florida, I had 3 days to get it. So I went to a few different shops and decided on one that was nice, clean and not too expensive. I made an appointment and got my tattoo the next day. I still love my tattoo, I didn't think it over, at all... But it's great and it's the only tattoo I currently have, but I plan on getting more.
I have various pain/discomfort in my body and my main concern for my next tatt is how do I stay comfortable for 3 hours. It will be inside forearm and i'm more worried about staying still when my hip or leg starts hurting from sitting in the same position for too long. Hoping to keep my arm fidget free too.. Any tips?

As someone who has ink, the best advice i would give someone is "Yes have a definitive idea of what you want, however be flexible, (Allow the artist to show off a bit.) Ultimately getting a tattoo is a collaborative experience.
Thankfully, I really took time to think over every bit of ink on me. These channels giving tips definitely helped with that. And I made sure to consult some friends who can give their two cents.

No you’re gonna be fine I’m skinny too and I’m getting a half sleeve next month the tattoo artist said it’s gonna be fine and the needle only goes in the second layer of your skin it doesn’t go much deep to make you bleed out badly
