Do things right away. Then they are done Things really do just take a minute. For laundry, I keep the washer lid open with a detergent pod in the tub and just keep putting items in, then at night I close the lid, push the on button and its ready to go. Before bed I put the laundry in the dryer, or hang it up quickly and by morning its done. I always make my bed first thing when I get up. I have a dishwasher, but wash by hand because washing just a few items is so easy, then I either let them air dry, to be put away later, or towel dry and put them away. And everything in my home has a place.
All of these I already do. One great tip I learnt a while ago is to put a sheet of newspaper on top of your kitchen cabinets. This does away with having to dust them and they can be thrown out a couple of times a year and replaced to keep it all fresh. Do the same for wardrobes or other cupboards or bookcases etc.
Your videos are delightful 🌱 I do a lot of the tips you mention here. In addition: everyday I have a new rag (these are microfiber as these I have read are best for collecting dust) through out the day I wash and rinse it with soap and use it to tidy up- at the end of the day i will tun it through countertops, walls, frames and such (I don’t have much). To clear all dust is inevitable and we need some to live but at least the home is as tidy as possible and smells clean). I also wipe the bottom of my shoes as i take them off with a vinegar/water solution. I go through paper/mail/old boxes etc. once a week to declutter and not accumulate these. And making the bed at the beginning of the day is crucial for me as well- it does set the rest of my day for keeping tidy as i go (like washing dishes after use and putting things away, right away. I will try the chair on the corner of my room for that clothes i feel can be reworn throughout the week but not good enough to go back into the closet before washing-great tip! May I ask: do you wash your garments by hand or in a washer/dryer?
Beautiful video Niamh, as always. There are a few rules i like for keeping the house tidy. One is, everything has a home, another is the 1 minute rule : if it can be done in a minute or less just do it and get it over with, this includes washing a plate, wiping down a bathroom mirror etc. And finally, keeping most surfaces clear, which makes less cleaning at the end of the week and gives less visual clutter. ive limited my decor items and just made sure most of the practical things i use are beautiful, then they are kind of like art anyway :)
Tip #4 is a great idea! I bought a decorative rope basket to keep by the entrance; I call it "the bye-bye bin". When it gets full, I donate its contents.
I find such joy in making my bed every morning! 💕 I am a naturally tidy person and get quite distressed when things get a little chaotic in my home. Baskets are a lovely addition, and help keep stuff hidden away. Thank you for sharing.
Bless you - more quality time with your 3 kiddies is what is important. Do what you can, but sleeping, eating, bathing/showering and having fun is a priority. Plus everyone being happy and healthy. Much love from Switzerland.
I know exactly what you are talking about and I am not a single mum. 3 kids make so much mess that even if you do all you can to keep the house tidy it's just not possible. I have a feeling that my house is always messy despite working hard to keep it tidy every single day.
Tidy will be easy,if you are the only one in your house, but if you have to share your life with another people, it's very difficul to do so,espectaully with the children.
I love order and I use these techniques as well. If i do it routinely it doesn't get out of hand and it becomes more natural. My grandmother always told me, " clean as you go, especially with cooking." It has been a tremendous help to me. Thanks once again for your tips and videos!
I too make my bed and tidy up the room so when I return in the evenings I feel the room is welcoming me home and inviting me to rest. I like wasing my dishes and appreciating every piece I have purchased throughout the years. It makes me thankful and grateful for all that I have. I respect them all 😄
I've been working at this for years and I have accepted the fact that I can't control my family . Especially my brother . He's messy ,but cleans up after himself . Still leaving a mess .... he has a degenerative eye disease . So, I love my brother . He drives me crazy sometimes, but he always brings me presents . He knows he's messy and I take good care of him , but he also takes good care of me . I've learned to be mindful of other personalities and behaviors in others and understand that not everyone is like me. As long as the house is clean ,sanitized and free of dust . I know I can breathe freely and just tidy up once a day , then make sure the house is orderly at night . I feel better when the home is clean in the morning and I can have my cup of coffee without looking at something that's out of place.
Love your neatness. When I put clothes back into the closet that I can wear again before laundering, I put the hanger in backwards, so the open side of the hook faces forward. My own weird closet filing system.
I love that your ideas are not only beautifully pleasing , but very easy to implement in almost any home. Putting your shoes in a cupboard was definitely a favorite. . . well, along with putting your purse in a basket. . . and perhaps placing your “bits and bobs” in a lovely box. Ok. Totally can’t choose a favorite. 😆
Hi Niamh,I just discovered you channel and I absolutely 100% love it!I haven't found a video that I don't like,I love them all :) thank you very much for sharing your love, kindness and wisdom with the world.Blessings :)
Thanks, Niamh. I do practice many of these as well, but on occasion things get strewn around just because of what's going on that day. Or maybe the time is better spent on some special creativity that particular day, so I'mnot as fussy. I do feel much better when house is tidy. My pet peeve is things sitting on the floor that shouldn't be. My rule is 'you should be able to walk around in the dark, in your home as you know it, without tripping on anything.😉😊
I’m a recovering messy so every organizational tip is welcome. I love your channel, the background music is very calming. Thank you for thinking about this little detail. By the way, I love Ireland. ❤️🍀
I think I have found my favourite youtuber 😊 I am simply in love with your voice and the videos... I love all of them. Recently, actually it is for a while now, I feel like I want to go back, to what life really means.. And one day, after searching for natural shampoo I have found you.. And since then I am watching your videos non-stop and writing down all the recipes, all the secrets 😍 I'm 25, but this ''modern life'' is not a life for me... I want a simple, authentic and happy life. So, finding you has helped me immensely. Sorry for the long post, but I don't usually comment so when I do I can't stop :)) A really big hug from Roumania 🤗
Hi, I live in Greece, what a lovely home you have, just one thing I could not do is putting shoes in a closed board or a closet, I always feel like shoes need fresh air to breath. I love the idea of having less stuff and keep everything in place but I' m afraid its hard if one has a house full of things other people bought. Greetings from Rhodes in the Aegean!
I have a friend who doesn’t have a dish washer and she just stores her used dishes in a washing-up bowl in the cupboard under the sink either until it is full, or until the end of the day, when she washes them clean.
I do this too! I call dishwashers dirty dish cupboards, where you hide them til it's time to wash them. That is what gave me the idea. I cleaned out the cupboard under the sink and put a flexible plastic tub in there. My dirty dish cupboard works great!
Good tips. I have recently been migrating toward downsizing. The word 'essentialism' rather that minimalism is more along the lines of how I see my space and lifestyle. You've inspired me with your boxes and baskets, wonderful tip.
@@FairylandCottage Yes, it has been a personal struggle to get rid of my belongings because i am a fiber artist. The value of minimalism is profound but in reality it cannot completely fulfill every aspect of my living space or life. This is why I have adapted 'essentialism' which is, if I don't need or want it, why do I have it. It works for me in an amazing way. Also you've inspired me to seriously do my own vlog. Keep up the wonderful work your doing, your voice is gentle and welcoming... thanks for all you do.
Charity shop basket, great idea! Thanks, I love your channel, so peaceful. I’m just returning my home to peace after having plastering and a new kitchen fitted, whoa that was chaos, just the decorating to finish and then I’m hoping I can relax and enjoy. Love and Light to you.
My two tips for a tidy home (and I do most of the same things you do 😊): 1) Wipe off kitchen counters immediately - keeping crumb free helps things look and feel fresh. 2) dry the water drips , spots or puddles off the faucets and sink-top or vanity. I’m in the habit of doing these two things every time I see crumbs or drops - mine or my family’s. Keeps things nicer 😊
There's just a special kind of vibe .when you come home to a tidy & clean home .it's hard to keep the home put together i work 2 jobs & have a some times messy little husband at home that gets in the way sometimes but he trys to Help.
Hi Niamh....I do almost all what you've told. I manage to do so along with my two children. They've learnt this just by observing me. I fully enjoy your videos🙏❤️❤️🌺🌸
I'd love to see a everyday routine, skincare, food, routines of batch cooking and so on. Everything you do seems so simplistic and I'd love to learn more about it!
When I hang my clothes back in the closet, I put them in front of the clean clothes, this way I know to wear them again. I learned from a recovering messy to put like colors together be it in the closet or in the drawers. I spend less time looking for a particular blouse, or whatever, because my clothes are arranged by color. I also limit the number of colors I use so I can coordinate more of my clothes.
Another great video Niamh! I do a PM tidy before bed and return anything to its home. I tend to leave a trail of a book, pens, hand cram, earrings... 😂😂
Hi!! These are so useful tips! I recently tried to improve my morning routine so, when I work, I can do it in a tidy home. I make a load of laundry and iron the clothes I lined to dry the day before. I’ve three children so I have a lot to wash! By the way it helps me a lot to stay on top of the things (Sorry for my English). And of course I make the beds 😊😘 Thank you for sharing 💓
Hello ! Very nice and informative channel. I love all the ideas here but... if you put your shoes directly into the cupboard (especially after a long walk or running) they will start to smell quite soon(not to mention the cupboard :-O ), I always let the shose stand out a while or even outside if possible so they can "breath" properly. The same with bed, you should let your sheets breath a while while the windows stays wide open, before covering the sheets up again, we sweat quite a lot at night. Just a tips ;-)
Love how organiced you are. I love a tidy house to. But my husband and children are soooo messy 🥴 So i often have to correct them 😊 I work from home and we live in a tiny house, so it have to be tidy and organiced for me.
Thank you for the glimpse inside your lovely home. I also do most of these things. I need to make more space inside drawers to get more things off the surfaces. The dishwasher is unloaded every morning so that dishes don’t pile up and can go straight in there. I have hooks at the front door, so keys go there. I work hard to find a home for things. A place for everything, and everything in its place. However, I often end up doing a lot of the pick up myself. Still trying to train others.
Lovely ideas. It is hard to train others isn't it! My other half is messier than me. I have a drawer for keys but he likes to leave on the counter! haha Sounds like you have a good system going on in your house though!
I just discovered your videos yesterday and so far, love them all. Your voice is delightful to listen to! The only thing I take issue with is - shoes need air to breathe; they shouldn't be shut up in a cupboard right off; it's not good for them. Perhaps you could put them in an open basket instead.
Great tips, some of them I use already, always make the bed and I clean as I go. Don't have dishwasher myself but I try to hand wash as I finish eating or cooking. Love your chanel ❤️
Hi Niamh, I think putting the shoes or footwear immediately into cupboard can be avoided. It can be left outside for 30_40mins before it goes in.. what do you think 🤔
Have a place for everything, where it is easy to access and put away. Clean or put away it then if it can be done, don't procrastinate, it is habitual returning things to their previous state. A clean home inspires those in your home to keep it clean. Beautiful and aesthetically pleasing things also encourage this, I believe. Use less to cook, use less pans, spoons, equipment etc. If you can do it with a few things, less to clean. Also, as has been mentioned clean as you go. I used to work in professional kitchens and this is incredibly important to efficiency, as well. If you have less in general, you will need to clean it to use again. If you have say, a few towels, they can't sit in your laundry for days, you'll need to wash and put back. It encourages continual tidying. Every night, if possible, set the house right. Such as you said. Wipe the sinks, pick up any clutter, set things for the next day. An elder always told me this, it's like a head start.
After I’ve worn a piece of clean clothing and it’s still OK to wear again, I put it on a hanger and hang it in one section of the closet for “worn” clothing, but I reverse the hanger so the open side of the hook is towards the front. Works well for me.
Hi Niamph, thanks for the tips. Though we know most of those tips, we need to hear them again sometimes. Like hearing your soothing voice once in a while😊💙
By the way, after having watched the video, I washed the dishes and picked the clutter around (at 23.30:) Thanks again for giving me motivation😊 @@FairylandCottage
Great tips!!! I have to work at being tidy also. Of course, I have a husband, two teenagers, and two big labradors to clean up behind. They keep me busy!!! That is why I stick with tip #1 as much as possible! Owning less stuff makes my job easier.
So nice to find someone else who doesn't have a dishwasher. Such a waste of water. We collect no more than a day's worth of dishes in a large stainless steel bowl and then put the water on our garden (when it's cooled).
We take our shoes off now too especially since we got new carpet! Now we have about 10 pairs or more of shoes all by the front door scattered. With 4 kids and their friends I’m not sure what to do with all of them. Oh well at least the rest of the floors are getting protected right.
Mess is my biggest nightmare. I have 2 young children and both my husband and I work full time with no help. I live in a pigsty to put it bluntly 😓 I'll give your tips a go. Hopefully it'll make a difference. 😊
do your best. it is definitely not easy with both working full time and with kids!! you'd have to multiple yourself. keep it simple and try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Health is too important to be stressing about mess..
Do you have a cleaning schedule for laundry, cleaning bathrooms, etc.? I agree with being tidy to help keep the home up. But I am wondering about your actual cleaning schedule...thanks for sharing. Same tips my mother taught me as a child!
3:33 Is it ok to fold clothes you have worn all day or hang them in the closet right away? I usually hang them on my clothes rack and let them dry in air .
My Gran was an amazing womem and these things she taught us, I've always loved things in there place keeps your mind clear and it's easy to find things I'm not a minimalist but I love clean spaces ..My sister on the other hand is so messy she always says" what happened to me "🐸 !!!!Fab footage
About keeping the clothes right away in the closet.. well I prefer not to .. have some hooks outside first to hang for a few hours or overnight. N then put back .. maybe I live in tropics so I tok sensitive about sweat n smell . If I have worn it for over a couple of hours.. it’s best to wash or cleaned.. if only for a while then air dry first n chk before u put back for any smell or stains . Same for my nicer shoes .. I let them breathe outside for a few hours before putting them back .
Last week i clearly made clear to my parents, brother and sister that our house has to be clean. I made some rules Got rid of some stuff Bought flowers Decorated the house with natural decorations Told them to wash everytime what they use, it only takes 10 seconds. It was hard at the beginning but now they are following my rules and my sister is loving it (my mother too). Its been a week and the house is still as clean as the first day 😁✌️😎❤️🏡
Yes these hints are very good if you live alone and I pretty much do them! But getting the rest of the family currently in our home to do the same is basically impossible. Consequently i must go around tidying everyone else's droppings, or nag them to pick their things up. Or let it be messy. They don't seem to care.
Sandy Makin I know how you feel. My husband isn’t as tidy as me and I pick up his stuff all the time. Unfortunately we can’t force others to be as conscientious of a clean home as we are.
These are great tips. I think things would work out too if it weren’t for these small people that look like me who buzz around right behind me, messing up what I’ve just tidied!
This is almost exactly my list of “tidy” rules as well! I like to us a cleaning solution (I’m a tad addicted to it, and use it too much), that I make myself. I just use purified water, a bit of isopropyl alcohol, a bit of peroxide, and a few drops of tea tree oil in it. I wipe down as I go through the day, so it’s enjoyable!
Thanks so much.... I don't always see all comments!! Any paper tags I put in the fire and unfortunately plastic covered tags are landfill. or you could paint and reuse as name tags for gifts....
