Great freaking video, just got my first bow today, grandpa was a silver arrow bow hunter but passed away the summer he was supposed to teach me at 16, now 23 I’ve decided to learn it on my own with no clue how to get drawn or where to apply for a tag with no family or friends that bow hunt or hunt at all but this video made me confident to go out by myself and figure it out. Thank you sir

Great advice at the start. Luckily I researched enough to know a little bit before buying a bow. I went to a big box store, and it felt wrong. So I went to my closest archery shop, and although I did get my bow tuned up and stuff situated better, I still didn't enjoy the experience. Just keep going places until someone cares about it like you do. I just wish I had bought my first bow from the shop that I enjoy, but my Realm SR6 isn't getting replaced anytime soon so they will just have to take my arrow money and live with me.

The reason I’m nervous to get into bow hunting is if I get a bad shot I don’t want the deer to have to live with a wound like that. Modern gun I’ve been lucky enough to not have to shoot twice (knock on wood) but there’s something in my head keeping me from wanting to commit to bow hunting because of that
@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns 3 года назад
A totally understandable thought my friend. Shot placement is key and perhaps even more important in bow hunting than rifle hunting. You hit a shoulder with a rifle, you likely killed your target. You hit a shoulder with an arrow, it may not penetrate. Practice is crucial in all of hunting. I try and shoot daily at least 4 months leading up to my bow hunt. Daily. 10-20 shots at different ranges. Having confidence in your shot is so important. Still, I know lots of really fantastic hunters who would rather not bow hunt for this very reason and you know what? That’s perfectly fine! Thanks for watching and for being a conscientious hunter, my friend! Good for you! -Gregg Flores

@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns 3 года назад
Jeffrey Spry hey, Jeff. Thanks for watching! I personally prefer fixed blade broadheads. For several reasons. No possibility of mechanical failure is one, but also, mechanical type broadheads are illegal in some states. Fixed broadheads are legal everywhere. I have found success with Montec myself but will admit I haven’t tried a bunch of others. Check to see if mechanicals are legal in your state. If they are, you might try one mechanical and one fixed. See which one you like. I wouldn’t recommend going cheap on your Broadhead. Hope that helps! Let me know what you do! -Gregg

Might seem like a dumb question Maybe it is but.... but when is the arrow , once it's launched ,at what point is it at it's fastest Let's say the target is 50 yards out.... at what point is the arrow at top speed
@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns 2 года назад
My theory would be that top speed is achieved somewhere within the first 5 feet after release. This is why techs at the archery shop, when they measure arrow speed, they shoot arrows through the radarchron at a super close distance.

Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ru-vid.comUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

My problem is the string hits my hand every time i draw a bow

Michael Brough You might try and bend your elbow a little more, Michael. Not a ton. Just enough to avoid contact with the string. Let me know if that helps. -Gregg

Try taking your front hand( the hand holding the bow) and turn it so your knuckles are at roughly a 45 degree angle, I used to hit my arm all the time but after changing my form i haven't hit my arm since.

What’s a good bow for a beginner that won’t break the bank?
@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns Год назад
You can find a complete setup at your local outdoors store for around $300. If you go traditional archery, even less.

@@WhereTheRiverRuns oh nice! Ill check out the full set ups. Is there any brand youd recommend?

@@chris123chris82 if I were you, I would ask them to let you shoot several different bows. Pick the one that feels most comfortable to you. The one you feel best with will increase the confidence in your setup. Don’t take no for an answer. If you’re going to spend money, make sure they let you shoot any and every bow you want.

How strong should a hunting bow at least be?
@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns 2 года назад
Some states have minimum requirements for poundage. Like 45 pounds say. But many don’t. Look into your state hunting laws to find out. Accuracy is super important. You can kill an elk with 45 pounds if you put your arrow in the right spot.

Normally you take the quiver off before you shoot
@WhereTheRiverRuns
@WhereTheRiverRuns 7 месяцев назад
You do not. Not in a hunting situation. All your shots will be quiver on. Same as you practice. Competition is a little different. Unless you hunt without a quiver and carry your arrows apart from your bow, you will be shooting with your quiver on in a hunting situation. Always.
