Cotton pillowcases not only cause friction but they suck the moisture and oil right out of your hair! Thanks so much for the tips everyone who is interested in growing their hair out needs to hear this! Also taking vitamins helps too!
The tips posted were a good reinforcement of methods of grooming our hair that we know to do but do not always implement. Thanks for posting your suggestions.
i have been looking for a hair video for african-americans for a while and i never seemed to find it. but i stumbled across this by accident and it is great!! thankyou so much!
I personally only use shampoo once a week and do conditioner washes/rinses as needed. Co-washes don't strip the hair of essential moisture as much as shampoo does, which is why I do co-washes more often. Thanks for the compliment!
Fabulous tips....I absolutely agree with the trim and the split ends. I just finish in the last three weeks twisting and cutting the split ends. I can honestly say today I love my hair. It looks and feel healthy. I to rather have short and healthy hair then long stringing hair from split ends. Thanks for sharing!!!!
I'm 50% Puerto Rican but very white looking. My hair is super fine, coarse & porous. Your tips are things that are really helpful to me. I recently explored the black hair care section of Sallys and have found some really great products. Definitely seeking quality products without mineral oil. Thank You :)
My thing is that I'm not the type of girl that is into getting my hair done or having things done to my hair. I'm getting to a point where I can see that the health of my hair is going down because I don't know how to care for it let alone style it. This is very helpful. I already wash my hair once a week because I work out 5 times a week so lol....I'm happy to find this on youtube!!
Hey miss, I would recommend you massage the scalp in that area and be sure to not neglect it when you moisturize your hair. I have the same issue, so I have to be sure to part the hair so that I don't neglect that area in the middle. Hope this helps!
Yes, that's my natural hair flat ironed straight. It didn't break easily. It just broke whenever I was really careless with my styling methods and or I overprocessed it.
THANK YOU! somone who knows what their talking about. all the other videos i was looking at didnt sound too sure about how to take care of african american hair. youve explained how these things help and i thank you.
WOW....your hair is so beautiful! I've been been transitioning now for about 20 weeks. I use to transition with a drawstring phony pony now I'm wigging out with my hair cornrowed underneath. I actually stop doing the phony pony because of a video you did and you were absolutely right. It was too much tense on my hair. Your video keep me strong through this transitioning stage. Thanks for your video.
They can, especially if you don't use a wig cap. The friction between the wig and your real hair can cause breakage. Be sure to keep your hair well moisturized and take breaks.
I agree, trimming that often is not really neccessary unless it's a personal choice or you have damaged ends and get splits frequently. I personally don't need to cut my ends til every 3-4 months.
Your hair is beautiful! :D I've been trying to grow mine back out (it's shoulder length right now), and I have found these tips to be very helpful. Thank you!
@GlamourHollywood: Thanks for the feedback. The only reason why I specifically address AA women is because there have been a lot of myths about our hair that has plagued our community for years--particularly the myth that our hair is unruly and cannot grow to great lengths. I am fully aware that these tips are universal, and appreciate my subbies of all races! XOXO
Hey! I think you can rinse and co-wash daily as long as you put the moisture back in your hair. I don't do it daily, but I do it very often...maybe even as much as every other day. It all depends on how hard I workout and if I have a lot of product buildup. Hope this answer helps. More vids on the way... ;)
Another good reason to regularly trim your hair ends is it stimulates hair growth. Split ends stunt hair growth and prevent the hair from growing healthy. It can and will continue to grow if you do not clip your ends but DPrincess28 was saying, it will thin the hair, weaken it and eventually break off.
Hey,..Thank U 4 this! I am just starting my transition to natural hair and am very nervous,..I have "out of Africa" course hair and it has been a struggle to find styles that look decent. I appreciate your tips and am hoping they work 4 me! it all sounds reasonable and simple! I will keep you updated! THANKS again!
Hi MsCamilleB. Thanks for the kudos ;)! Normally I don't like to put any oil on my scalp, but at times my scalp does get very dry. For that I use carrot or olive oil from the Hollywood Beauty line. It's really light & absorbs so quickly that it won't weigh your hair down at the roots.
Wow this really helped out. Ima start washing my hair every saturday or Sunday. I really wanna grown long hair thts healthy. And I wanna lay off the perms as well. But I think I'm gonna do this and try to stick to it.
I have been following your videos and i have to say i have been most inspired by you and appreciate all the info you give for my natural jorney i am planning to keep my curly look during my trans so i have used some of your advice .Thankyou
I think you've missed one very important tip and that is to maintain a diet of fresh fruits, veggies and proteins. Introduce nuts and grains into your diet which is a high protein food. Remember our hair is just that protein so we need to maintain the protein level in the by introducing these elements. Including lots of water and vitamin supplements will also aid in providing you with health hair. Your video is great. It certainly emcompasses many good points to maintaining healthly hair.
If you're mostly black with a natural kinky texture, it's good to wash it 1-3 times a week, although, if you're a mulatto or some other variation of black/asian/caucasian, its only good to wash it once a week or once every 1 days. Im a crazy variation of black and asian, so its more 'loose' than full black women's hair and it doesnt need as much care because I naturally have a natural balance of oils and when I sweat, I only need to do a quick rinse, never fully wash it.
i have not put a relaxer in since January... i have had braids in since June, and have been taking hair vitamins for a year and drink lots of water constantly ,,, and put oils..meaning castor oil, olive oil, or avocado oil etc ...
Great video. I agree with all of your tips except #9. 6 weeks is a bit too often for me. I dust every few weeks. Or trim every 6-10 months. The hair will retain length even with raggety ends. Trimming is an estetic choice. I am not too fond of blunt ends. I like the "fairy tail" ends. Trimming too often can hamper length retention, best to look at the ends to check for damage before trimming. I find dusting to be helpful for those who are trying to grow to longer lengths. Keep up the great work.
Tips were beneficial. Im am licensed and you would not believe how many women would come in and say DONT TRIM MY HAIR IM TRYING TO KEEP THE LENGTH" and its all stringy looking like a rag doll!! ( They havent trimmed their hair in ages!!) But, they not trying to hear me out when I say it needs to be cut, then they want a weave or microbraids ( similar to adding salt to a bullet wound.) NOw they balding with thinng long stringy hair!! LOL .Great tips, u should get a license.
Thanks for the informative video...in addition to gel it is good to avoid most pomades, especially those containing petrolatum....I have been an avid user of pomade and my edges are thin as can be because of unhealthy pomade and grease.
You are so right hun. Obviously we can have a difference in terms of the texture of our hair, but the way we care for it can apply to people of all races. I didn't mean to exclude anyone, so please take no offense! Thanks so much for watching my video and subscribing ;).
Ooh, I don't know how to type my hair, but I will post a vid with my natural curls so maybe you can tell me ;). As for flat irons, I use a generic Chi I bought at Sally's. I'll probably do a flat iron tutorial, so look out for it :)!
Awesome VID!!! I have made the wonderful transition to my natural hair. Question, when is it good to use protein treatments in the hair, or how often? Thank you.
you dont have to wash ur hair once a week or even every two weeks, my hair grows just as fast and stays long from not washing. i think its really to keep the hair from being greasy or wieghed down, and u definately need deep conditioning more than once a month. u dont have to trim ur ends, ur hair will grow the same as anyone else, it is just to make the hair look more polished.
@honeyebby well to each its own..I have used the cheaper ones for a long time and I thought it was fine...then I went to a stylist of 30 yrs who used a Chi on me and it was completely different...I went out and bought one to see if it was the same at home and just not salon magic..and my hair turns out perfect at home. so for me its great I dont use cheap stuff on my hair and my hair is so much more healthy after going to this lady and her teaching me a hair care routine
ThaNks BeauTiFul...SisTa, I wiLL woRk on KeePin My haIr HealThy alSo.. I just got a Big Chop so I'm working on Keep my hair HEALTHY so it caN Grow LoNg n BeaUtiFul also..
Great video! Your hair looks really healthy too! I'm transitioning right now and I find that my hair has been a little dry at the roots. do you know of any products that are great for moisture?
