Cant join the marines as they binned me off for having bad acne on my back, but I'm in the process of joining the paras at the moment which wasnt my first choice but it's still a solid corps. I failed my first attempt at prac 2 months ago and I cannot agree any more on the sprinting point. I'm fine with long distance and I enjoy going for 8 mile runs etc but I pretty much completely neglected sprinting and I paid for it badly. The first day of prac is a 4 mile run which has 5-10 minute sprint sessions every mile or so and they really made my life hell. I was so sore by the second day and failed to get my 2km run time which I'd already passed at the assessment centre to get on to prac. And on the third day we got a bollocking for being late to water parade, which resulted in a 15 minute sprint session up a gnarly hill as a warm up for our warm up lap of the steeple chase. Again I ended up failing this moslty due to the fact that the sprints were trashing my legs because I hadn't trained for them. Anyone joining the paras or the marines. Find the biggest fucking hill in your county. Sprint up it until you cannot stand and repeat. It will pay off, trust me.

@@CompleteCommando oh yeah absolutely! I've been more motivated to train harder than ever these past few weeks and I've been seeing massive improvements. No point crying over spilt milk, I've been given a second opportunity and I've got the experience to smash it this time round!

@@CompleteCommando well I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for the marines as it's what I really wanted to do for a long time but it just didnt go my way unfortunately. Hopefully I'll have a solid career either way 👍🏻

Any recommendations on shoes to bring down, currently waiting on basic/ rop start date. Only have ultra boosts atm but going to head to running shop for insoles new shoes, socks etc

Hey I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’m just wondering how do small lads get on? I’m 5,5 and worried it’ll bring me down. I’m also to light in 56kg maybe less even and training while eating a lot is quiet difficult.

Yes but gradually build it up and don't go OTT

Hi Sam id really appreciate a reply. I’m at the stage of my pjft for the Royal Marines. I am full prepared on the running aspect and the pull ups. I am heavily struggling with the press ups and sit ups as I can just about reach the minimum requirements. Anything back would be great!

Do shin splints flare up on some recruits during training? If so how to deal with them?

Yes mate quite a lot of lads have this issue. Really important that you work on shin and calf mobility. Learn how to massage shins with a hard dog ball/lacrosse ball. Good video by a physio called Kelly Starett on Shin Splints.

I know this is focused towards Royal Marines training - but it's fantastic advice for any civilian who is trying to improve themselves physically and mentally (and maybe training a martial art - which seems to be the closest thing a civilian has to military training). From what I've seen in the business world - there are a lot of things that seem to come from the military world (and maybe vice versa) so it's worth paying attention to the people who help protect our freedoms. Maybe it's because of the amphibious element but I've always seen the Royal Marines as a great standard to benchmark against. Thanks for the upload 🙏🏼
