Patagonia is an ethical good company I've found. I waited 8 months for a pair of hemp overalls to go on sale. I was able to get them 1/2 price. They didn't have all the colors available or the sizes, but I was able to get my size and now love the color I wouldn't normally wear. And I get a ton of compliments every time I wear them. Research Patagonia they're doing a fantastic job and have been doing it since the 70s.

In india we have so much for people who support more ethical fashion. Its called Khadi..its a co-operative..small scale industry available in all cities and towns to buy handmade and natural garments, though may be a but expensive. The whole concept follows Mahatma Gandhi's attitude of self sufficient living. And also other tha that we have quiet a lot handmade artisan shops.
@sakshinaithani4336
@sakshinaithani4336 4 года назад
@Aparna sure. Khadi is completely hand worked fabric..its also carbon neutral. U can go to any khadi gram udyog shop in town or city. There is one big showroom in Delhi CP also. They sell all natural fibers which is good for ur health and these are made by local artisans. Often local artisans are also using natural dyes. Khadi clothes are completely hand made, while cotton nd silk available at khadi gram udyog stores is handloom which provides money to the artisans. U can buy sarress, kurtas for men nd women, shirts, vaskets. And a nice shopping time would be between...2 October to December end..they provide 25% discount in honour of Gandhi's birthday all these months. U can also buy bedding at khadi or anywhere local store..instead of those dandlup beddings u can just get it cotton filled..at some local shop..

@Aparna are u looking for some other fashion brands that are sustainable nd healthy for u as well? Or other ideas more than clothing? If u are a family person than..Raymond has also launched an approved Khadi collection. MGM khadi is also quite fashionable as compared to older time khadi nd available online and not extremely costly. Of u r in delhi there is some thrift shop in lajpat where u can exchange ur things and all.

@Aparna artisanal work is also available at amazon and Ajio. In ajio it is the.."the indie store". In amzon u look in categories around end u will find. It has all artisans handicraft category somewhere so they provide handloom or khadi clothing and handicraft from different states

Unless I buy something hand-made by an artisan, I almost always buy clothes second-hand, and I keep using them until they fall apart beyond repair. At that point, I repurpose the fabric to make something else, or to use as cleaning rags. I wish I could afford to buy more organic, sustainably produced clothes, but about all I can afford right now is thrift store stuff.

I try to buy only natural fiber clothing. I avoid synthetic fabrics. Plastic clothing (acrylic, nylon, polyester, etc) is so unsustainable because it sheds plastic fibers when you wash it AND like other plastics it doesn’t break down in a landfill. Also, I mend what I have when it needs mending and when it can no longer be mended, it is turned into cleaning rags and used until it is even too far gone to be a cleaning rag. Then what is left can go into the compost since I am only buying natural fibers.
@miracleshappen4483
@miracleshappen4483 4 года назад
Great! I try to do the same as best as I can. I don't wear synthetic fibers because they cause skin irritation and don't allow perspiration of the skin. I live in Cambodia and the only natural fiber I am able to find is cotton. In most South East Asian countries, synthetic fibers are everywhere and when you wash cloths made with such cheap material, the amount of color which comes out is unbelievable. They dye cotton clothes with the same system. The main problem here is economical so cheap stuff is affordable often at the expense of our health and planet. 👏🤣😜😉

Miracles Happen I mostly wear cotton as well. I have a wool sweater. The rest of my clothing is cotton. It is true about cheap clothing! It is so easy to obtain but is so bad for the planet!! Blessings to you and your family!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

La Robbia is a Sardinian (Italian) artisanal laboratory, they use plant based dyes and locally resourced wool. They do workshops, if you’re planning to go to Sardinia next year or this summer or if you are already there think about learning their traditional methods. Here in Italy many ancient workmanships are surviving nowadays. Partecipating to workshops can be a great opportunity

Wow, thank you so much for that Kamea and Rob! I especially love the approach that we can find a middleground if 100% sustainability isn't possible right now. I love the idea of diversification. And of the vision that we can produce in such a way that consumption strengthens the planet, instead of threatening it. Beautiful.

Just a coment: I avoid buying cotton clothes when I can. Growing cotton requires large amounts of water and big demands of it are drying out the land (even if it is organic). I go for linen instead 😊✌🌿

Exactly. I was surprised when the presenter recommended cotton. Cotton is a robber crop that depletes soil. It also uses tremendous amounts of water.

Not unlike ethical and sustainable energy, should be an f-ton more of that around, but this tidal wave of off-shooting by-product wastes from the oil industry.. well. I'm curious how fast people can convert the gas stations into electric, maybe people will trade roads of innert cement and calamity for food forests and renaissance. The purpose of rain isn't to water cement. Nothing grows as fast as the rate of oil we use, or even grows from something so ancient and deceased, and people have inadquate nutrition to even fathom what it is they're eating.

@bethanyday3471
@bethanyday3471 4 года назад
@@eric69571 Dont forget that somewhere around 80% of clothes donated to thrift stores get thrown away into the trash aka landfill. thrift stores simply dont have enough room or enough people buying to be able to carry 25% of what is donated to them. i would suggest talking to the thrift store about the clothes they wont throw away and if they really need more donations and what kind of donations they dont throw away. i strongly recommend everyone try giving away their old clothes to someone who they know will wear it or sell it on the second hand market. donating to a church or thrift store should really be a last resort. and i might agree that people could hoard what they have without adding anything to it so that they can sustainably rid themselves of that stuff instead of just throwing it away or donating it to some where that will just throw it away.
