Occasionally. I can fall asleep faster to thoughty2 , because with let’s read I sometimes get interested in the subject that he is talking about. But for some reason thoughty2 even if I am interested, I pass right out if I am even slightly sleepy.
Although I know I'm going to sleep through 75% of this, I'll come back to it tomorrow to listen. For some reason I absolutely love scary/ghost stories from Japan!! They have GOOD ones!
I have become a fan of Japanese and Korean horror stories. I live in the US. So most of our ghost stories are based in Native or European lore. So I like hearing from all over the world. It is interesting.
16:31 I used to hear those breathing noises as a child. My mother never believed me and once even got upset because I kept waking her up saying someone was breathing in my face. I’m glad I don’t experience the breathing anymore. I do hear whispers every now & then.
Joel, that paranormal intro is god tier. I love it so much. I also love the background music you choose to play during paranormal videos. I love the fine details. It really sets the atmosphere. Aside from your private detective and bounty hunter stories, paranormal stories are my favorite of all time. There’s nothing I love more than getting a snack and curling up in a blanket on a rainy stormy night to listen to your paranormal stories. Thank you for what you do for us.

Thank you J Nightmares for your help translating, and the guest narration on Story 10. I love Japanese stories of the uncanny and scary events. So different from American experiences of similar events, and we don't need remakes of Ringu or The Grudge to try and make it "culturally understandable" to Western audiences. We need idiomatically correct and cultural exchange conscious subtitles, dubs if they are possible.

Hi. I was a faithful Mr. Ballen listener. After he got that podcast with Amazon, I felt like he had lost the passion and enthusiasm that came so naturally with his storytelling. Maybe it's just me, but I even stop listening to all the RU-vid repeat videos. Even the "like button" jokes fade away. Joel definitely deserves the best, as long as he stays original. 😊

I love let's read been here for so long I can't remember, i think that could be given a good deal with podcasts ,amazon whomever but I don't think he would change not in the same way, live streams you can tell not a big head just a nice guy with an amazing voice that should warrant a massive deal he works real hard to put us all to sleep and he does 😊
Story 1 = Dude, you've developed anxiety and are having panic attacks (trust me, I know) There's no ghost in your place and your mum is not helping by being a psycho for giving you the idea you're about to be possessed. Assuming the end of the story is true with the monks and the husband, it has nothing to do with what you felt. I hope you get better soon, man !!
That's exactly what I was going to say. As someone who suffers from anxiety and regular panic attacks that's all he was dealing with. Yes it sucks but it's a logical scientific explanation that has nothing to do with ghost

Y’all remember those book and tape things from the 80s? You put a tape in the player and a little book to go along with it. “When the chime rings, turn the page…”. This is kinda a new version of that, but I’m happier without the animation with these stories. There was one, Peter and the Wolf, that one always got me. The freaking wolf was so scary! David Bowie actually narrated it…. Crazy stuff! Love those read along books. Does anyone else remember them? I always used to pop them in the stereo at bedtime🦄
We got my boy J Nightmares on this joint, or what?!!! I love Japanese horror bc it’s so creepy. I think Ring and The Grudge are major factors for my generation’s (millennials) fascination, Nuke’s Top 5 came along and cemented it.

3:37 if there isnt logic or reason and stuff moves=its probbally a toxic person=toxic people only care about their bad emotions and will make everything crazy=litterlly, no sane person yells for hours about a tiny thing. Then yells about something else 5 hours later. You should only have some1 freak out yelling(and probbally breaking stuff.),1 time or 2 times each year or less or more then 2 years=adhd people=a meltdown. Even adhd people can be toxic. If you hear some1 screaming all the time and stuff doesnt make sense when your with them=their evil. You also cant tell if they yell and nothing makes sense. A european american calling some1 a vitrue signaller or snowflake=this is called projection.

For some odd reason; i am more interested in "Japanese Ghost Stories" then the regulars....and YES, i do fall asleep before the entire compilation ends, but if the 1st 2 stories are instantly good, surprise-surprise, I AM UP! Or i do follow up the next day! Also, to share, in my faith, when someone is murdered, practice evil rituals, and esp suicidal, the spirit will remain! Suicide, is caused by hurt, pain and trauma etc., therefore once someone takes their own life, those feelings remain and escalate in the afterlife! Since they believe death will relieve them of those emotions, but it dont, just like being killed or murdered, they tend to live in them for enternity! So please if u are having thoughts of suicide, seek spiritual and professional help because death will only make it worser and there will be no retribution (except for those who was murdered or killed by someone), ever!
In my experience you don't need stress to hyperventilate. I did once when I was having a good time hanging with friends. They went down stairs and I went to get up, started laughing for no reason then I fell back and started hyperventilate. My body was paralyzed and I was turning blue. My brother had to carry me down stairs and my head just fell back and arms locked up. Genuinely unable to move or feel anything. I'm talking you could have me clos3 my eyes and you could of cut me or punched me and I wouldn't of known. Stayed in the hospital for fee hours with med and potassium drip
Im Canadian Japanese, born and raised in Canada specifically, parents both Canadian (thought id leave that there) I do love something about the Japanese folklore culture and the whole horror genre of things, Japan is one of the most as I believe spiritual countries, and very respectful which is amazing.
These stories are okay, but after listening to them over time, they begin to have a "sameness" about them. Not the plot lines (though these, too, are recurrent), but rather the vocabulary, syntax and turns-of-phrase, as if they were all written by the same person. It's difficult to explain, but underneath the narrative, it sounds like the language is idiosyncratic, just one tale after another with no literary variety at all, as if they all had a common author. Strange.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in the Let’s Read comment section so let me give everyone an update on how I’m doing. For those of you who missed last night’s live stream I have a strained groin muscle so I’m banged up so to speak. Other than that I’m doing just fine. My family is doing fine as well my 3 year old son Brandon had the flu last week but he’s over now, my 1 year old daughter is doing well and my 3 month old twin daughters are doing great in fact this Sunday my twin daughters will be 4 months old. Joel as always thank you for your awesome voice you are awesome.

You might not believe it, last night I woke up three times with high intelligence information about my mother's death in a horrific fire, I fell asleep while listening to your videos & this one i wake up so sudden on your voice while saying at the last video "i hope one day her soul will find peace" I don't know how but it was so sudden as if there was silence before
Story number one the man was just having panic attacks. He thought someone was breaking into his house which was the start of it. Panic attacks aren't logical they just happen sometimes after one event
As I'm listening to the 3rd story I was thinking "well hey, at least you only hear the creepy breathing when you go anywhere else, at least you don't actually hear it in ur house" only to have him say he started hearing it in his house, then I was like "oh well, nevermind then. Hope you get that sorted out"
I listen to every night before bed mind starts racing have go around check all doors then I start thinking what if burglars cut thru the roof and come in that way..I swear not crazy but here I go again listen before bed
With story 9: I don’t think she was the grim reaper of the hosptial. When death is near for humans, we are more likely to see spirits & are there to simply help guide us to cross over. A lot of widows see their spouse right before death, all happy they’ve seen them then they cross over to the light.
