I work in healthcare, I'd kill for summers off. We're lucky if they don't mandate us often to stay another shift, or 1/2 a shift. We can't leave until our replacement is there. Healthcare, emergency type jobs have to be open 24/7, they're tough! [Not knocking teachers by no means]. Just different type of work.

Disagree. I think the family should still be allowed to say what they do with the organs. That’s traumatic for the kids and the family alike. If I donated my organs, it would be to someone who needed them to survive. We should be allowed to designate specifics when it comes to what happens to our organs afterwards.
@GooseLooseMoose
@GooseLooseMoose 3 года назад
@@maybellique of course we are, the family decided to donate the organs. In the US when there is a fatal accident and the victim is a minor the family decides what to do with the organs. So they can't sue after they already decided to donate them. It's just a freaky coincidence. Also you don't get to pick who gets the organs that's not how it works. There is a massive list of people that need healthy organs by the minute.

Story 2... Maybe I'm different because I was raised in a morgue, and around dead bodies (My one uncle is a pathologist, and my other uncle "they are brother's" is a mortician). I don't agree with the family trying to sue the school, and local morgue because their child's organ was kept to be studied. The boy was an organ donor.... I don't mean any disrespect at all, like I said maybe I'm wired differently because I grew up around dead bodies, and organs. Who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️
@brittlecalm94
@brittlecalm94 3 года назад
I completely agree, when you sign up for organ donation you should not be the one to try to dictate what is actually done with your organs, you signed them away fair and square. While displaying the brain along with the name was not done with malicious intent, just an odd happenstance that no one could have predicted. Donated bodies and organs usually have the name so people who view them or work on them never forget the sacrifice that was made so they can learn. Organs are kept so learning can continue, without donated organs and whole bodies students could not learn hands on which is imperative for most medical fields. My grandmother died of a rare disease, the doctors came to our family and asked if they could dissect her brain and send thin slices throughout the world so the disease could be studied. We readily agreed as she always did love to travel.

I agree too. However I heard something that made me never want to be an organ donor. It’s probably not true *everywhere* but it came from somewhere. I’m sure some of you might have heard this especially the 30+ crowd. “If you are an organ donor, paramedics won’t try *as* hard, ER doctors won’t go the *extra mile*” mainly with healthy adults and extremely healthy seniors in order to help save a child’s life. My parents actually both work in fields that see death (nurse, and a Police Captain of one of the most dangerous city per capita) they told me at 17 (when I got my license not to be a donor even tho I have always wanted to be a donor, especially if it was to save a life and I was brain dead or on a respirator) I would donate my brain to science in a heart beat.

Right? I was kind of annoyed at the writer of this one. He’s all down on CSI crap, but doesn’t know the basics of organ donation? You are giving your organs to the state. What did you think that meant? The parents reaction was equally dumb too. My view is, I’m dead, my brain is useless now. Put that crap on display. Maybe it will help save someone in the future through study. That’s the whole point of donating to science, right?

@@bigbeefy111 exactly- and the fact that you can only become an organ donor until after you legally can register for it on your own (when you get a state ID @18 or unless your parents sign a consent form if you are a minor- so if the story is correct, the kids wishes were for his organs to be donated- legally the parents can’t override a decision the kid made while he was a legal adult. I think since it was his brain it was a little different. Organ donors usually intend to have their organs donated to someone on a transplant waiting list. You can’t transplant a brain, so why store it on display when it could’ve been buried with him? Further, why keep it on display knowing children from his high school would be touring? It all seemed a bit callous and 100% careless.

@@Ghostbuster07 no, the fact that it was an optional, death centered trip is absolutely relevant and possibly more so than everything you said. Now, to address what you said, it doesn't matter if people incorrectly assume their organs will only be used for transplants. It's not the state's problem that you couldn't be bothered to use Google before agreeing to something. Using an organ for an educational display is completely reasonable. Especially if there was something wrong with it or, the opposite, it's in great shape. It wasn't great that the owner of the brain was revealed, but that's not what they were suing over

See, story 2 is why when you decide to be an organ donor, you have to tell your family. Sit down and discuss it with them. If course it wasn't right that the lab mentioned who the brain belonged to; it's a privacy violation. See, you can talk about cases, but you can't give away identifying information about that case. And this story is an example of why. I told my family that I am registered with the province as an organ donor, and that doctors are welcome to take whatever they need to give someone else who might need it. Hey, I'm not going to be using it anymore. That might upset my family, but it is my choice.

In story 2 there's something I don't understand, and it's probably something specific to me. Why did the family want his brain back so bad? I mean he was an organ donor right? And since he's an organ donor his organ go wherever, be it to a patient or sitting on a shelf in a preservative. What his family did, to me, seems like it goes against the kids wishes. If I was an organ donor and my brain was used as a sample like that and my family tried to take it back it would seem disrespectful to me. If you're an organ donor your organs go wherever, and you can't complain if it ends up in a jar or wherever it does.

Unpopular take for story 2. Having kids see their dead friend’s brain is terrible and traumatic but give the morgue the benefit of the doubt of not knowing that they attended the same highschool. Secondly, the state has every single right to take his brain, that’s what the deceased wanted. I understand it’s traumatic for the parents to not have their full son but it’s what he wanted to do with his body and they have no right to sue. How does a group of teachers not guard the door of a dark room? Hopefully policies have changed since the girl in story one was kidnapped by her dad. The good thing is the fact that the glow in the dark bracelet, bought so that dad could find his daughter, actually caused the teacher to see the kid be taken and then led the cops to the dad who kidnapped his kid.

Story 2- I've only started listening and had to pause at the CSI remark.....as someone who studied Foresic Science, whilst it's so cool learning about all the techniques employed to solve a crime, it is not as glamorous as they make it out to be on CSI 🤣 Still, it is a really interesting subject and my favourite part was the practicals conducted in the lab, mock crime scene etc

erh so that second story... yeah the guy was an organ donor, so yes they can "legally butcher him and put his brain on display". he himself, the individual person it conserns, consented and agreed to that in life through proper legal channels. it basically couldn't be any more legal. also "my friend just died and iam not over it yet. lemme go on a field trip to the MORGUE, what could possibly go wrong?" then she gets upset and parents sues both the morgue AND school. um, what?.. so neither her nor the parents could had forseen that it might be upsetting, especially given the circumstances of the friend losing his life recently? ... remind me i can make a living by using a hammer to unflict self-injuries and then sue the hammer-making company and the store that sold me the hammer i guess?

Story 5 may just be a fictional story. I've seen too many movies where the parents lost their child due to their negligence - it's just different this time since it's the school's responsibility - though same logic, when dealing with kids, you shouldn't take your eyes off them. Also, why would they think of the worst case scenarios (of course that'd be part of it) instead of rushing to the place where their kid went missing?
@c.w.8200
@c.w.8200 2 года назад
The brain story reminds me of an incident from my childhood. Our babysitter told my mom she wants to study medicine. My mom and dad are both doctors so she thought she'd do her a favor and get her a sneak peak because she had connections to the girl's "dream school". Girl ends up in an autopsy class and decides against medical school, too gross for her. My mom felt bad and the parents of the girl were kind of mad about it too 😂 Also: I'm sorry but that kid was an organ donor, it's ridiculous to sue.
@kanekishisui1591

N the second story…. Maybe people should consult their family on a decision like being an organ donor since not everyone will be okay with it. I do feel bad for the morgue though since they legit didn’t do anything wrong and were probably confused as to why they were getting sued.
@kanekishisui1591
@kanekishisui1591 3 года назад
@Nutcracker Fusion idk, it was just a suggestion💀 that’s why I said “maybe”. I was just saying people should tell their families and friends about donating their organs when they die just so their loved ones won’t be so confused or so they could maybe think about it more before doing it. You can talk about it and they can disagree but you can still go through with donating your organs, I never said that you can’t donate your organs without your family’s “ok”. At the very least tell them so they won’t be as surprised as the family in the story. It depends on how close you are with your family anyways, some families may not care about a sister,brother, etc donating their organs.

I can understand why a family would find importance in laying ALL of their son’s body to rest, even if he signed some of it away legally. I can understand them asking for it back. What I can’t understand is why they would also sue for money and include the school in their wrath even though they had several warnings and signed away their consent. The story about the organ donar...wow, that stupid family should be sued for trying to sue the school and morge over their sons decision to donate his organs. That's like me giving $1,000 to a charity at random, then my family and/or friends trying to sue the organization who ended up with that $1,000.
