Game-show king, Ian Turpie hosts a great 'Switcheroo' in 10 TV Australia's 'Price is Right', produced in Melbourne.
The New Price Is Right aired on the Seven Network from 1981-1986 with down-to-earth Ian Turpie as host. Upon its launch, it originally aired after midday (together with Wheel of Fortune). The show's immense popularity in Australia destined the NPIR (in a 30 minute format) for 7pm primetime in Brisbane and 6pm most other capitals. When ratings declined, the NPIR moved back to later afternoon viewing and in an hour long format(and with the big wheel).
The 'Price Is Right' was revived as a hour-long version by 10 TV Australia (Network Ten) in 1989. Ian Turpie was again the compere, but this time for a Saturday night show (7.30pm timeslot). In the face of the stiff competition of 'Hey Hey it's Saturday', the show lasted only twelve episodes (yes only 12!). It was then left to the Nine Network to bring the PIR back on Australian screens in 1993.
After two long runs on Nine, Australians can now only view the US PIR through the Foxtel W Channel.

yeah mega he was also in Housos he played shazza dad wazza good show he played it perfectly well this show was on when i was younger about 2 well i'm 30 now just watching these old clips

awww Ian passed away on my daughters 13th birthday i didn't realize that until now...I knew he passed but just wasn't sure when.... I used to watch this show all the time as a kid with my mum....

"It was possible to buy VHS videos before they were released to the general public. They were sold to video rental shops of course. The usual price to the video shop was $119 per tape, but this is ok because they stand to make a profit from the tapes. That's why they are so expensive, they may have been at the cinema last week." American VHS tapes were like this in the 80's if the tape wasn't priced for the direct retail market.

It was possible to buy VHS videos before they were released to the general public. They were sold to video rental shops of course. The usual price to the video shop was $119 per tape, but this is ok because they stand to make a profit from the tapes. That's why they are so expensive, they may have been at the cinema last week.

I didn't realise that the music used in this version of TPiR was carried over to the Nine Network when Larry hosted the show in the 1990s. It also sounds like it came from the same composer and/or band that recorded the 1989-1999 variation of the Sale of the Century theme as well.

One of the other contestants from this very episode - Toula Drakopoulos - ended up appearing on an episode during Larry Emdur's first stint as host of The Price Is Right, and she was all over him like a rash! 😁 Naturally, Larry took it with good humour, and when he filled in for Daryl Somers on Hey Hey It's Saturday soon afterwards, Toula turned up once again (heh heh). 🙂
