I find it ironic that this video doesn't have sources cited at the end, or even give credit to the narrator and producer, etc. It makes it difficult to cite this video.

I agree with you, but you can always use the uploader's name as an author. Try to cite through the REFERENCE tab in WORD.

PLAGIARISM TYPES AND WHAT THEY ARE: 1."Clone": Submitting one copy of other author's creation. 2.CTRL-C: Copying a sentence into one work but without citation and quote marks. 3.Find-Replace: Closely paraphrasing to the source (small modifications) such as substituting one vocab with a synonym that matches the word and retaining the same structure. 4.Remix: Paraphrasing from one source that also contains the word from other sources in one paragraphs from the same author. 5.Recycle: The reusing of major elements from the previous work. 6.Hybrid: Combining one and more copies of a text and selecting one of the quotes to be cited. 7.Mashup: Combining copied texts from other sources with first copied sentence to form one paragraph. 8.Error 404: Including erroneous citation of a quote. 9:Aggregator: Including full citation for each source but almost no own understanding via paraphrases. 10.Retweet: Crediting one source via full citation but retaining copying and pasting a sentence.

As a graduate student and teaching assistant at Western Kentucky University, I'm just waiting for that moment when people/students run out of ways to type something differently. I submit that there are a finite number of ways that you can word some text without losing part or all of the original meaning from the author you are citing. Yet ironically at the same time (at least in Psychology/APA style), it is typically frowned upon to directly quote often within your writing. By this I mean that some people essentially avoid doing it as if there were a plagiarism/direct quote plague that casts its foreboding shadow over writers at all times. If the topic you are writing about is not a well researched topic, is generally new conceptually, or only has a few researchers/writers (but they have essentially covered everything), then this is an arduous task to perform in its own right. Just food for thought, but I did like learning about the plethora of ways to plagiarize. Addendum: Need to add the controversial "Self-Plagiarism" in here: The "cheating" yourself out of the learning process vs. I already went through that process once and it still applies now so why can't I use my past work? I can see both arguments, yet I definitively stand with the latter of the two options present.

Many types of plagiarism: -Direct copying + pasting text without citation and quotation marks. -Minor paraphrasing. -Copying a classmate's essay. -Buying a paper online via paper mills. -Uncited close paraphrase. -Uncited quotation. -Uncited bloq quote. -Cited copied and pasted text but missing quotation marks. -Wrong citations. -Patchwriting. -Copying images online without providing the source. -Not citing statements which aren't "common knowledge".

The "Clone" is the worst plagiarism form compared to other types; it includes copying a full papers, pictures, or other types of artworks . The consequences are unbearably horrifying. Start from re-do the assignment, failing the course, until getting expelled depends on how many times for the occurence.
@ised-5239
@ised-5239 10 лет назад
PLAGIARISM MODEST PENALTIES: 1. Being asked to re-do the assignment. 2. Getting "F" for the course. SEVERE PENALTIES: 1. Get suspended/withdrawn. 2. Get terminated/expelled from the college.

So what if I did a retweet, but it was cited, and the blocks were in the middle of sentences, only about 8 words in a row, and they were just statistics? It's such a specific error, I think I'll be fine. I'm worried, because plagiarism is a huge deal.

Most universities will have something called a Writing Center, or Tutoring Center, that will be able to help you with your writing assignment(s). You just need to ask for the help, and to show that you are trying to get the work done. And follow their recommendations.

If you use a work from another class, for a current class, that is considered academic plagiarism. You need to ask the current instructor for permission to use it for your current work.

The problem is in the definition. While you can't steal from yourself, you can commit fraud by misrepresenting your own work as original for a particular assignment -- that's plagiarism.

There's a difference between common knowledge and actual information
@andydrew105
@andydrew105 3 года назад
@@DARTH-R3VAN There is only so many combinations for a 200 character limit message, add that it has to make grammatical sense and it reduces the combinations even further. Given enough time with no new words, there is only so many combinations. And even then all combinations of letters can be exhausted. The "Infinite monkey theorem " the irony is it doesn't take someone to learn about this, many people can come up with this without ever hearing something similar to it. I thought up an AI that creates all combinations, later find out someone came up with it before me but used monkeys. Not common knowledge but common knowledge can be used to derive it. Just because you have a thought doesnt mean someone else hasnt though it, you just may be the first person to write or say it, it doesnt make it original. And to claim you have an original thought means the burden of proof falls on you but that is not something you can ever prove. You are just the first one to say it on a record that still exists. this was all written here, my original thought isnt original here is the source lol XD libraryofbabel.info/bookmark.cgi?nndnef279

THE REASONS WHY STUDENTS PLAGIARISE: -Less time -Collusion -Ambition to finish the assignments early -Lethargy or lacking of energy -Feel that the work is easy so just copy then paste -Cannot distinguish what common knowledge is with arguable info -Do not know how to cite the source or paraphrase/summarize/change the structure of the sentence -Do not know the more severe consequences in addition to getting a zero or re-doing the assignment WHILE THE REASONS TO CITE THE SOURCE ARE: -Giving credit to the original composer -Ambition to achieve higher grades -Admitting honestly about the source where the paragraph comes from.

Captions: 1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,440 What is plagiarism anyway? You've probably heard a lot about plagiarism as 2 00:00:04,440 --> 00:00:05,400 a student, 3 00:00:05,400 --> 00:00:10,650 so what is it? According to Webster's definition, to plagiarize is to steal and 4 00:00:10,650 --> 00:00:15,599 pass off the ideas or words of another as one's own, to use another production 5 00:00:15,599 --> 00:00:17,550 without crediting the source. 6 00:00:17,550 --> 00:00:21,570 Sounds pretty serious when we say that plagiarising is stealing as if it's 7 00:00:21,570 --> 00:00:22,439 criminal. 8 00:00:22,439 --> 00:00:26,430 But plagiarism can carry some serious consequences in school. 9 00:00:26,430 --> 00:00:31,198 Each school has its own plagiarism policy or academic honesty policy, but 10 00:00:31,199 --> 00:00:35,370 students who plagiarize make it reported to school officials, get an F on the 11 00:00:35,370 --> 00:00:39,540 assignment or in the course, and, in some cases, even expelled from the school. 12 00:00:40,200 --> 00:00:44,820 Given these consequences, let's take a look at some sample papers to see what 13 00:00:44,820 --> 00:00:48,000 plagiarism really is and how it looks in student writing. 14 00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:51,59 We've tagged 10 types of plagiarism to look at more closely. 15 00:00:51,899 --> 00:00:56,489 This paper is the clone and represents a highly problematic form of plagiarism. 16 00:00:57,180 --> 00:01:01,649 It is a word for word copy of texts from the original with no quotation marks and 17 00:01:01,649 --> 00:01:02,969 no citations. 18 00:01:02,969 --> 00:01:06,840 This is clearly plagiarism. In the control C paper, 19 00:01:06,840 --> 00:01:10,799 the student has attempted to disguise the direct copy and paste by adding in a 20 00:01:10,799 --> 00:01:15,299 few original words. This, too, represents a highly problematic form of plagiarism. 21 00:01:15,299 --> 00:01:19,860 The student is deliberately attempted to use the material, and then throw off the 22 00:01:19,860 --> 00:01:22,140 instructor with a few words here and there. 23 00:01:22,140 --> 00:01:27,150 The Find and Replace looks like the control C, but in this case the student 24 00:01:27,150 --> 00:01:31,530 intent becomes a question. Did this student intentionally change the words 25 00:01:31,530 --> 00:01:36,780 and phrases, or does the students simply not know how to paraphrase a text or put 26 00:01:36,780 --> 00:01:38,759 it into his or her own words? 27 00:01:38,759 --> 00:01:44,729 Regardless of student intent, it still is plagiarism. The remix has some further 28 00:01:44,729 --> 00:01:50,189 problems with paraphrasing, but this time, from various sources. Often this is what 29 00:01:50,189 --> 00:01:54,419 students think of when they think of research: pulling sources together into a 30 00:01:54,420 --> 00:01:55,500 new whole. 31 00:01:55,500 --> 00:01:59,490 But research is quite different and requires good paraphrasing skills. 32 00:01:59,490 --> 00:02:03,509 The recycle is a type of plagiarism that many students don't even recognize as a 33 00:02:03,509 --> 00:02:08,788 problem. Students typically cannot and should not reuse large portions of a 34 00:02:08,788 --> 00:02:12,720 text from another paper they have written. That means that students 35 00:02:12,720 --> 00:02:17,520 can't recycle papers from class to class. School policies about this differ, 36 00:02:17,520 --> 00:02:21,960 so you need to check what your school policy is. One way to avoid this is, as a 37 00:02:21,960 --> 00:02:27,60 writer, you can cite your original writing, even if it is unpublished. The 38 00:02:27,60 --> 00:02:31,50 hybrid represents a student who has made the paper look like an ethically and 39 00:02:31,50 --> 00:02:35,160 accurately written paper, but the student cut and paste material from other 40 00:02:35,160 --> 00:02:37,20 sources as well. 41 00:02:37,20 --> 00:02:42,810 This typically represents intentional plagiarism. Like the remix, the mash-up is 42 00:02:42,810 --> 00:02:47,280 nothing but a constant stream of outside material with little to no original 43 00:02:47,280 --> 00:02:50,160 writing to link the outside sources together. 44 00:02:50,160 --> 00:02:53,340 This also represents what a lot of students think of when they think of 45 00:02:53,340 --> 00:02:55,740 research, and it's just not the case. 46 00:02:55,740 --> 00:03:00,209 The 404 error is an example of plagiarism that tries to throw the 47 00:03:00,209 --> 00:03:05,370 instructor off by citing sources inaccurately. Usually students attempt this 48 00:03:05,370 --> 00:03:07,800 when they don't know how to cite sources. 49 00:03:07,800 --> 00:03:12,60 You can't be apathetic here. Citing sources takes time and attention to the 50 00:03:12,60 --> 00:03:13,140 details. 51 00:03:13,140 --> 00:03:18,89 The aggregator has sources cited, but the original writing is not balanced with 52 00:03:18,90 --> 00:03:22,500 the sources. In this case, the student has allowed the research to drive the paper's 53 00:03:22,500 --> 00:03:27,360 development rather than use the research to support his or her own writing. 54 00:03:27,360 --> 00:03:30,480 The last type of plagiarism is the retweet. 55 00:03:30,989 --> 00:03:34,830 In this case the student knows that he or she needs to cite sources and 56 00:03:34,830 --> 00:03:38,880 attempts to paraphrase, but the paraphrase relies too heavily on the 57 00:03:38,880 --> 00:03:40,290 original text. 58 00:03:40,290 --> 00:03:45,90 Paraphrasing is a skill that takes practice. You can see key ways to avoid 59 00:03:45,90 --> 00:03:46,49 plagiarism 60 00:03:46,49 --> 00:03:50,970 after reviewing these ten types: understand how to paraphrase a text, 61 00:03:50,970 --> 00:03:55,380 how to document or cite a source, and how to research so the paper contains 62 00:03:55,380 --> 00:03:56,459 original content.

Plagiarism is bullshit! I did a research and fully credited the source of the material but I got a zero because someone else used the same source and credited it as well. how can't two people use the same source? this is really unfair. for example if someone wrote that according to Eisenstein theory of relativity then i cannot say according to Eisenstein theory of relativity in my paper!!! do you know someone else who came up with the theory of relativity so i can refer to him in my paper instead??
