Soma is an awesome game. I’m usually not into “walking simulators”, but that game has so much to offer with its story and its aesthetic, I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. There’s also a game called Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture that is similar. You’re just walking around and piecing things together, but it’s eerie and ends up being pretty addictive.

Always understand why someone plays games before recommending a Soulsbourne game. If they play for challenge, then suggest Sekiro. If they play for fun or just to distress, then don't recommend them at all.
@motojauntx
@motojauntx Год назад
Right? I feel like Soulsbourne games are defined by non-negotiable difficulty, coop/PVP (with some notable exceptions), cursed immortality and exposition via exploration/experimentation. I feel that JFO lacks these traits and is better grouped with action games like God of War. Personally, I think Dark Souls 3 is a great starting point for Soulsbourne. Polished, massive, punishing, magical and still popular enough for jolly cooperation or invasion.

It’s funny because Halo was my 2nd FPS game but it was my first Couch coop/multiplayer game I ever played. My first FPS game was Medal Of Honor (PS1 Games). HMCC is by far the most fun in a FPS, it’s got a fun campaign and online multiplayer, where you can meet other players and hopefully find coop buddies. Halo did a lot for me growing up as a child, which eventually led me to buy an 360 (well my mum), because Halo 3 came out and I really wanted to play it and when eventually I did back in 2008 was some of the most addictive gaming I ever did in 3. Multiplayer, Glitches in Coop for campaign, sandbox custom mode SO many great ways to play 3 that I spent from 2008-2011 playing mostly 3 over other games besides the CoD titles. Halo is the best way to experience fun.

I just posted in another comment below, but I will say it here again incase it is of any use to you mate. If you have any form of laptop, tablet, or heck, even a mediocre smartphone, look into geforce now. It allows you to stream games on any of those devices and much more, and has a ton of games available to play on it. The only thing you need is an internet connection and it doesn't even need to be that great. I was playing games that even my 3060 can struggle with for a good year and a half or so and really got me through some hard times when all I had was an underpowered laptop. It has a free version if you just want to try it, and subscriptions are like ~20 a month for the best service which includes rtx capabilities playing on a 3080, 8 hour play sessions, which once over, you can just close and reopen the game for another 8 hours, and can be used on a 4g phone connection. Definitely worth a look if you aren't able to drop a few hundred on a whole new system and then games on top. It was an absolute life saver for me and I seriously can not recommend it enough, even if it isn't 100% perfect.

Good list, I have a couple of suggestions too. If you’re interested in getting into more fast paced shooters, I’d recommend playing the original Doom games. They often have a hardcore fan base (from what I’ve see at least), but they have plenty of difficulty settings, and you can use mods to get many different types of experiences. For CRPGs, this one might not count (the RPG genre is a mess), but the game Daggerfall might be a good one, it’s free, and like doom there’s plenty of ways to change how difficult you want the game to be, and while this will take some research, the way you build your character can make things easier. And if you use Daggerfall Unity you have plenty of mods you can use. Edit: another good option to get into horror games is Faith The Unholy Trinity. The game isn’t super scary gameplay wise, but like you described SOMA, it has a great chilling story, and the gameplay is simple the first time around, but the game opens up when finding secrets.

On a note about the horror aspect, the original Dead space on Xbox 360 was my first outing into the 3rd person horror genre and it still hits home today. 30 years old and I can still barely manage 40 minutes of play time in one go. Good recommendation for anyone trying to get into RTS games(If you're interested to try), is another Halo game called Halo Wars. Its super streamline and it has a very simple tutorial(not even 15 mins long). You get to play as UNSC and Covenant. It isn't as complex as Command and Conquer, nor as difficult as Homeworld. The maps are fantastic and everything only gets better in Halo Wars 2. Plus they both go on sale a lot.

Great list, i was basically talking about all the picks with a friend (we sometimes watch the vides together.) I honestly think that number 5 should've gone to metal gear solid 5! It's a much more focused 'stealth' experience. And it can get as easy as you want. There are so many tools involved and simulation elements that can help newer players cheese the game if they need an extra leg up. Day and night cycles pretty much act as additional difficulty modulation. All that combined can either have you stealthing like a true ghost or having a great time cheese stealthing while grinning ear to ear.

Took me a while to get used to fighting the giant frog miniboss on the first planet (the one inside a cave where you drop from a hole above so you can cause significant damage right away) but after that, fighting all the other giant minibosses and everything else went smoothly. Couldn't disagree more with MK11! Netherrealm has such a strict, unforgiving input system and the AI never suffers from those input issues. Also, the dedicated block button makes this control scheme even more cumbersome for timing. Lots of content to it and interesting systems, but my choice would be a toss up between Killer Instinct and Injustice 2. These both have amazing fighting tutorials to help you learn how to move from Beginner to Intermediate to Advanced. I would give the slight edge to Killer Instinct though because of the aforementioned strict button input of Netherrealm games.

I personally have a problem with the SOMA pick, not due to the story or horror itself, but because the AI can be very unforgiving and it's very easy to get lost. I honestly think Alien Isolation would be a better pick. There's crafting, but you don't really need to use it if you don't want. The scares aren't too intense, and the game has actual gameplay that isn't exclusively stealth. Puzzles aren't bad either. And of course, difficulties.
@josephkeen7224
@josephkeen7224 Год назад
The “has actual gameplay that isn’t exclusively stealth” remark is something I have a problem with, although I might just be misunderstanding it. Stealth is actual gameplay, and when you can fight back against the enemies with weapons it usually takes away ALL tension in most games (it’s the problem I have with the Faith trilogy).
@njmfff
@njmfff Год назад
@@josephkeen7224 If we are talking about "stealth" then PRoject IGI would be very good entry, assuming you can run the damn thing nowadays. You were special agent doing infiltration and key was to remain unseen, because if you are spotted, guards will raise alarm and then you'll have to find entire military base as everyone would get on high alert. It was really cool game, and back then, such refreshment from loud and in your face games like "90s fps".
@thegamingfan5222
@thegamingfan5222 Год назад
@@josephkeen7224 Yeah, that was poorly worded. I kinda mean when it's 4+ hours of "crouch, wait for enemy to go away, crouch to destination", and that's the whole game. Some games do it different, but doing only this can get boring. But in SOMAs case, the level design and AI really punish the player. There's very little room for mistakes. That's why I believe they could've picked a better one. To SOMA's credit, it has a story difficulty where you're just there for the story, but obviously that kind of kills the atmosphere.
@genotsSnor
@genotsSnor 4 месяца назад
I think for one the monsters are not the strong suit of SOMA. You die? you'll spawn at a safe point not far of where you died. Every monster does have specific guidelines, like being deaf or blind or reacting on movement. unfortunatly, this is not made clear to the player unless they are up to par with the story. And thus some people see the monsters just as a hindrance of the story.@@thegamingfan5222
