Dave, you are the first person I've ever commented on. That's how impressed I am with your content. Keep em coming. I'm about to enter my Master's of Science program in Comp Sci and I would love to have you as a resource in case I wanted to through a concept your way. Your teaching style is awesome!

Hi dave, I recently found your videos while looking for stuff about processors so I could understand how the processor i'm getting for my new computer would work. I like your videos a lot and I hope your fanbase grows, and that you put out more content.

Hello, Dave! Doesn't MBPS/MBps (typed with capital letters) mean 'Megabytes per second' while Mbps means 'Megabits per second'. I'm probably nitpicking here, but it's worth mentioning the difference. On the other hand, you pointed it out in words so it was just the text on the screen that might seem confusing. Apart from that little detail left out, that was a nice informative video!
@DaveXiang
@DaveXiang 7 лет назад
Yes, you are right! I think MBps with caps is for Megabytes for second. I just hadn't seen that used as often as Mbps. Thanks for catching that.
@stjepanbrkic3215

its not really neatpicking since the difference between the two is almost one order of magnitude :)

I have to periodically dig into easy to follow dictionary vids, like this, the bring some clarity to concepts that that linguistically, have a whole new set of types. One thing I would suggest to viewers like me is, 'Don't follow the closed captions', or you might up thinking that Dave's 'cell phone' (sic) is a cache for his closet ... I think they meant 'sofa'. 5:05

@youngstorm1232
@youngstorm1232 5 лет назад
I know I'm 2 years late but i would assume it's just how the rate of ratio is. Such as how you would divide a certain number of "Feet" by 3 to get the measurement of "Yards"

+Dave Xiang Just to clarify when you are calculating 16/8 for your Verizon example are you converting Megabytes into Megabits? I heard you say Megabytes to Megabytes---confused
@DaveXiang
@DaveXiang 7 лет назад
Hey, I probably mis-spoke. I was just saying most bandwidth or data throughput #s you hear are in Mbps (megabits per second) and a lot of people think in terms of Megabytes. So verizon advertises 64 Mbps download, you could hypothetically download at 8 mega bytes per second. Or a 1 gigabit ethernet can transfer ~125 megabytes a second

Hi Dave, Linux is a kernel according to my thinking, Not an OS. What do you say ?
@DaveXiang
@DaveXiang 7 лет назад
no, it's an operating system. it has a kernel, that's usually called the "linux kernel" that is a major part of the operating system. but there could be different kernels to use. Obviously linux uses the linux kernel. On top of those, different people enjoy to distribute linux differently like fedora, ubuntu, redhat, etc.

I really like your videos and click on the 'like' button whenever I get to the end. I think I even subscribed earlier. I first came across your eBay stuff. Really cool. Keep it up. And thanks for sharing your knowledge! Do you know if there is a way to search for specific sound bites in RU-vid videos? The other night I was watching some stuff with Bob Proctor on success and the law of attraction and I wanted to quote something that he said in a youtube video; but he had a bunch of them in a row and I couldn't remember which video he said it in. A while ago, while attempting to learn how to use better use Google to search, I thought I had come across one of the advanced tricks that would allow you to search for specific audio phrases. Unfortunately, I spent a good 45 minutes the other night and came up with absolutely squat...well, I did learn some things, but the way the internet is, you can learn a lot of things which aren't that pertinent to what you're looking for.
@DaveXiang
@DaveXiang 9 лет назад
Hey David Madison Thanks for the likes, really appreciate it. I don't think there is any easy way to search for sound bites in a youtube video. I think the best thing you can do might be to search for close captioning. Some people enable Captions in their video, and some people even write them out in text. youtube tries to auto translate your speech, and it does an OK job at it. I think if you go to a video, and it's really long, you might be able to search through the close captioning for key words that you remember. If you find it, you'll get a sense for part of the video they mentioned those key words.
