Oh, I *love* Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It has a real interesting take on Vampires and it's set in the world where humans are slowly losing control to the monsters of the night. And the best part is that it's all from the POV of a *baker*. Who has a burning need to show her love by baking pastries and feeding them to people.
This video is timely since I've lately been in a vampire reading/watching mood. I love Empire of the Vampire. I'm reading Empire of the Damned and plan to read Court of Wanderers soon. Recently, I also read and loved Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent. Besides those, I love and recommend: Books: Let the Right One In and Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, especially the first 4 books; Six Scorched Roses (Carissa Broadbent), Dracula, Carmilla Movies: Interview with the Vampire, Near Dark and the 2008 adaptation of Let the Right One In TV: Castlevania; Interview with the Vampire (I like the changes they made from the original story) I want to restart Due's African Immortal series so I can finally finish it, though I don't really think of it as a vampire series despite the blood/immortality connection.
Vampire novels are my jam! I’m honestly surprised you named some I haven’t already read, I definitely added them to my TBR. The Historian might be my all time favorite but other really good ones not in your video Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey and Every Heart a Doorway/Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire. I think an argument could also be made for including Black Leopard Red Wolf in the vampiric lore category.
Love this. One I haven't reread in 30 years, but loved when I read it, is the Dracula series by Fred Saberhagen, starting with The Dracula Tape. Cassette tape, of course.
My vamp guilty pleasure will always be Underworld. Kate Beckinsale is a complete badass. I also loved what AMC did with Interview with the Vampire. New Orleans itself was a character, and Jacob Anderson deserves all the awards.
I heard Jay Kristoff's Empire of the Vampire and its sequel Empire of the Damned were amazing fantasy reads. I've enjoyed both the Anita Blake, vampire hunter series by Laurel K. Hamilton and the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward. There's sex in both series, but really over the top sex in Anita Blake (later books it gets really repetitive). Great premises and characters/heroes & heroines in both though.
