They say that death and taxes are the only two things that are certain in life, but I reckon that “being disappointed by game studios because they cancel a title you’re really looking forward to” could be a contender for a third spot. Every so often, a game will be cancelled and when the reason for it comes to light, we’re somewhat taken aback. Here are 10 Video Games Cancelled for Ridiculous Reasons.

great list. Except for number 10 that is not a ridiculous reason, that is just because of the popularty of the game and to keep sending out additionational contenten.

How about Propeller Arena cancelled because of 911? It’s about flying around in cute little propeller planes and shooting each other down containing a map which contained skyscrapers. Which is apparently too similar to disgruntled Arabs hijacking a passenger airliner and flying it into a skyscraper.

Huh, the Scalebound entry is total BS. Platinum's head Inaba said both sides are to blame for the game's cancelation: "Both sides failed,” Inaba said, and ultimately, the game “didn’t do all of the things that we needed to do as a developer”. “I think there are areas where we could’ve done better and I’m sure there are areas that Microsoft as a publishing partner wish that they could’ve done better. Because nobody wants a game to be cancelled.” “Watching fans getting angry at Microsoft over the cancellation wasn’t easy for us to watch. Because the reality is, when any game in development can’t get released it’s because both sides failed." “At the bare minimum, it’s unique for us as a title in so much as we feel that we didn’t do all of the things that we needed to do as a developer,” he said. “There were a lot of painful lessons, but that helped us grow as a studio." “We obviously can’t go into details about it, because there are rules of engagement as a developer. We want to make sure that the publisher who gave us a chance to make a game in the first place isn’t treated poorly. “The truth is, we don’t like to see Microsoft take the brunt of the fan ire because game development is hard and both sides learned lessons, for sure.”

Announcing the sequel at all turned out to be the ridiculous part. Nickle-and-diming the existing (and still-growing) userbase was absolutely the right call.

About 1/4 of America, apparently. Bethesda once told Machinegames to "tone down the political stuff" in their marketing for WOLFENSTEIN: NEW COLOSSUS. Because hey: bigot bucks still spend, apparently and a game about murdering mass-murderers en-masse should try to be a little more apolitical about it.

Among Us 2s cancellation doesn't sound ridiculous. Actually, it's good that they doubled down on the first game instead of doing something like Overwatch 2, and making a sequel that is too similar.

#1 I would say was a smart reason (and a consumer-friendly one to boot) to cancel a game. Especially with the Lurgy that made the first game a hit being over

The Daredevil game if made now the game will be very possible, but maybe the game will be like the Batman Arkham game, which has stealth gameplay too.. 👍

The Scalebound one is especially regretful as it was an idea Platinum offered up to Microsoft on their own, and the cancellation saw the rights to the idea leave their hands permanently. given how poorly recieved their last game was, I hope Bayonetta 3 does well because no studio really comes close to that adrenaline fueled gameplay feel.

After DMC 5 brought the genre mainstream again and Platinum has got a huge boost in relevance lately through MGR memes making it more popular than its been since release and the Nier Automata hidden church and the long wait for the game making it noteworthy, I'd say Bayo 3 will have more attention on it than the first two ever did.

I can sometimes disagree with some of your lists but this one was rooooooough. Between either really not being ridiculous at all like Animal Wars or Among Us 2, some being genuinely tragic like Sonic Xtreme, then others just blatantly being wrong like Scalebound, this was easily one of the most disappointing and bizarre lists I've watched from this channel.

Where's Fez 2? It got canceled for a dumber reason than any of the games on this list combined. The creator got into an argument on social media and quit the industry a month after it was announced.

I would've loved an open world Daredevil game maybe have it based off of the Frank Miller and Ed Burbaker comics not based off of the bad movie maybe have villains like Kingpin and Bullseye in the game and heroes like The Punisher and Elektra in as bosses who then become allies and help you take down the main bosses in the city maybe also have cameo's from Luke Cage and Spider-Man it could've worked

I would love a Daredevil game, period. But I think it would be really interesting if they worked in some courtroom drama as well. Like by night you're fighting crime, but by day you're fighting cases. And each "chapter" of the game could be either one extended trial or several smaller cases tied together with one main throughline tying everything together. Basically, I want LA Noire but with Daredevil.

Your writer missed probably the best example of this, Golden eye remaster for Xbox live arcade. It was stupidly cancelled after being literally fully made due to licensing constraints. It was leaked online on February 3rd, 2021. If you play with an emulator its a fantastic experience that still needs a few tweaks and fixes but otherwise its a superb game. The issue you will find with the game is this. #1 its very hard compared to modern shooters #2 Its short you will get through it in a few days 3# you can switch in game between old and new graphics and this will make you hate the old graphics compared to the new style. A release on steam with more fixes and added gameplay/support would be ground breaking. Its a crime of gaming this never happened

Look at what amounts of hardware Sega had been pumping out like they were the Firefighters after a flood. People weren't keen on buying yet another heap of plastic that Sega would soon abandon to chase the next ill-fated idea... 3:43 From what I see here Animal Wars (why the Plural if it was supposed to be all about WWII?) would also be fairly racist... I mean fits the time period (and not only at the Nazi Turf mind you) but still... 7:34 No longer accurate. It actually is allowed if you have a pretense before the content that you don't agree with any Nazi Opinions. Hilariously the game that prompted this change was the parody game "Bundesfighter 2 Turbo" concerning the vote of 2017. Especially Alexander Gauland's Cross Jump Attack was a point of contention as the at the time boss of the Party AfD is a known Nazi friend and thus the attack the parody by Brohemian Browser Ballet had a specific look. That prompted a discussion as a complaint was filed (by Gauland himself which caused a classic Streisand effect to take place) and the doors were blown wide open as the Policemen tasked with looking into the case dismissed it as the game in question is art. It actually has some genuilely fun ideas though. My favorite is Sahra Wagenknecht fighting predominantly with a sickle because she's a communist. 7:59 Wait, _can_ the Philosopher's Stone resurrect people anyway? It can stave off death sure, but reverse it? Especially if you don't have a corpse either.

Actually, the Daredevil movie is spot on to the comic books, including the outfit. An excellent movie. Don't know why you kids didn't like it. Probably cause you grew up with cellphones and Xboxes, all we have had was a black and white tv and comic books for our imagination. Have you read any Daredevil comics ? highly doubt it.

The reason for canceling Indi is a big joke. I‘m living in Germany and you can play many games and watch many movies and series in wich the nazis are the villains. And guess what, we like it! It‘s a deep black part of our history and thats why we (well I mean the normal germans) think, that it‘s absolutely correct to show the nazis as evil monsters, cause thats what they were!

The Dreamcast really wasn't great; it was just a hollow barrel unable to bail out the head company's sinking ship. Sega were already doomed when it dropped.

Dreamcast was so advanced for its time, and the PS2 did not have all of the features. For one, an integrated modem for online play. I had to buy a modem for my PS2, and it was not the best set up. Dreamcast worked so easily.

Well, there were games that i was looking to play until i got my very first PC. But when i got it, and later, when i got first internet and found out that those games were cancelled, i was disappointed that, i will never get to try them out. And those games were: Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. Tiberium. Axle Rage

You’re also ignoring Sega bending the knee to Yuji Naka when it comes to Sonic X-Treme, because they genuinely thought that Nights would drive sales more than the Sonic IP, or that the presence of one man would alter the IP so radically they’d kill it. Instead of doing the smart thing and telling him, it’s company IP, he’s an employee, and if he has a problem with how the company uses its own stuff, there’s the door.

The Dreamcast was an amazing console. It’s games looked so damn good for it’s time and had quite a few great games. It’s a shame it all went to poo. My friend had one, I wasn’t rich enough, but there was just something magical about it. If you were alive back then I’m sure you were like me and just amazed at what the games looked like.

LucasArts adventures were highly popular back then in Germany. They have just recently changed tha law and the depiction of the swastika is accepted in video games. That is proof of how far games have developed in the meantime and being now accepted as work of art like movies, where it’s not been a problem at all. Maybe now is a good time to resurrect Hitler. 😄

Remember when Molyneux started that F2P-microtransaction game about tapping cubes, promising that there'd be a massive, live-changing prize at the center of it for whoever tapped the last one? And when it was revealed, it would mean the winner could help develop a new god-game, being the "god" of the game in real life? And then how the studio was mismanaged and run into the ground and the person's life was kind of ruined? What a tool, I can't believe anyone still wants to give him money.

In the UK, where the "Triplejump" are from, "Spaz", "Spazbo" or "Spastic" are EXTREMELY offensive terms for those with various neurological or mental disabilities/special needs. Please see the Wikipedia entry for "Spastic". We expect better from you, Triplejump. You wouldn't feature gameplay (either yours or from official trailers) that featured players called "N***er4" or "N*gNog4", would you?
