I've always wanted to learn how to play the violin and am currently browsing for one. Thank you for developing and posting this well documented and clear presentation regarding the various types, uses, and history of violins!

Very cool. I’d love to play a five string fiddle!

Also, if you have an 'extra' violin, it's a really fun thing to buy octave strings...still GDAE, but all an octave lower so even lower than the viola. I call it my 'shoulder cello'. 🙂

As some one who has played guitar for nearly 40 years I really like my electric violin. I have been playing the mandolin for around 2 years now and as a result I found that violin with the double strings very interesting.

So the five-string violin is a bit like a violin and viola combined. Of course, it isn't larger than the violin, like a viola, or at least didn't appear so, but having that extra bass string tuned to C like the viola C,G,D,A. I'd love to have one.

I’m a blues guitar player, I used to go out nd sit in on local open jam nights. Occasionally a local classical violinist would come out and sit in. She played an electric violin through an overdrive pedal, it sounds really good!

Long Before I ever got my violin I always thought the electric violin seemed great. I don't think I would have one now and I don't think I would have the double string one. I very much like the sound of the Baroque but I really really love my regular plain old classic cheap violin. I love it so much. And the best thing I'm really glad that I've learned enough to know what I prefer now. My opinion about the electric violin was based on nothing it seemed like it would be easier to tune it. I very much enjoy trying to keep my violin in tune the old fashioned way. It brings me joy

Would you consider the Carbon Fiber violins, a different type or just another material. You mentioned "electric" as another type, so I was wondering. Thanks for all the great information you provide!
@Violinspiration
@Violinspiration 7 месяцев назад
Carbon fiber is a different material. You can have a 4 string 5 or 6 carbon fiber instrument. Some electric violins are made with wood and some are made with other material such as carbon fiber. Does that help?

Few years ago you could not get an answer to the difference between a fiddle and a violin. you start right off giving GREAT information that's so interesting especially to the people that are brand spanking new Like your daughter 😁
