You don't necessarily say no to your friends. Just ask them to come around to your house and make dinner. Or arrange going to theirs. Much cheaper and you still get to see them.

I would disagree. It's not a bad thing to say no to your friend sometimes. She's not saying that you can't do anything with your friends all the time. I feel that saying no, depending on the situation, can show that you can be assertive when necessary, responsible when need be, you have discipline in character, and that your time is valuable. It doesn't mean that your friends are not important enough for you to make time for them, but it means that you understand your priorities. Of course if they are an emotional wreck or if they just want to hang out sometimes, you will be there. It aldo puts more value in the time you guys spend together.

Little advice from a financial advisor: PAY IN CASH. Like, starting right now. There are three benefits: #1: You can clearly see when your spending money is up because you have no more cash. #2: There have been multiple studies done that find that we are willing to spend much more (up to double) on an item with a card as with cash. This is because we don't see the physical money leaving our hands. This is why banks encourage plastic so much. #3: You can have the cheapest bank account by doing fewer debits, and instead withdrawing your spending money in one transaction.

Another great option instead of flat out saying no to going out with friends is to invite them over. I'm a broke PhD student so going out all the time isn't going to happen, but I love to have friends over and we take turns with who hosts. Everyone can bring a food or drink item to contribute if they want, but I can usually get a bottle of prosecco at Costco for cheaper than one drink at a bar. So it's the best of both worlds. And bonus...we don't have to worry about putting on makeup or getting hit on by creepy guys.

JeSuisJusteMoi Good luck with your PhD. I ran out of money when I had 3 classes and then dissertation left. Now I’m 199k in debt! Trying to pay off the loans now and just use my credits to try and get a job in the field soon.

I don't recommend it to anybody, but I would sometimes starve myself like maybe 1 meal a day to save money in High School when I started working. Surprisingly saved a lot and was able to help down pay 2,000 for a car for my parents. I agree, It might not seem like a lot at first but all that saving really adds up.

Even though i still live at home, I meal prep for lunches but sometimes dinner. However I do this every 2 days as i question the freshness by the end of the week. With social outings, i tend to vary with location from bars, parks to even home, although these happen at least once a month.

Tbh frozen vegetables and fruit are very cheap here in Canada and they are not processed - they are directly frozen after they're fresh. I imagine this is true in other countries too, So they have the same nutritional content as fresh but for way less of the price. Food in Canada is very expensive especially produce.
@jenny9343
@jenny9343 8 лет назад
not in Texas, you can buy let's say, a pound of peas for $2 when fresh, when frozen you'll get half if that, for $3-$5 so not worth it. but it is different everywhere
@kalliste01
@kalliste01 8 лет назад
I think it mostly depends on what is in season or available in your area. Frozen are definitely cheaper here too but sometimes you can get a good deal if you go to a farmers market and get something that is in season and they have quite a lot of. Where I am we don't get very good quality berries (and they're so expensive) frozen are definitely cheaper and more convenient.

I really liked this! You are so eco-friendly as well and that's super cool! I would like to make the point that frozen fruits and vegies are actually better for you because fresh stuff (unless locally grown) is picked before it's ripe and can get all its adult nutrients but things frozen immediately are picked at their freshest.

I find it really easy to save money. I put £10 in a savings jar every week so by the end of the year I have a pot with £520 in it. It's so simple. I don't get how people can find it difficult. Just have some self control. I also budget myself by having so much I can spend on certain things and keeping track of it using a notebook. I allow myself so much to spend a month on essentials and so much I allow myself to spend on stuff I don't need which is usually around £30 each and then bills on top of that and that's my budget. If it looks like I'm going to go over that budget then I either stop myself from buying it and put it off til the next month or buy it but then take amount I've spent from next months budget lol.

Honestly save as much as you can, but ultimately your focus is better spent on finding creative and alternative ways to MAKE more money. You're going to save more money by finding ways to make more per week (e.g. a few $100 here and there), then finding how to cut out $5 here and there. Entrepreneurship and creativity are your best friend! You're better off to go to a cafe and spend $10 on lunch whilst spending those few hours there working on an online business than you are to stay home, spending $1 on lunch and watching Netflix (making no income). I'm not saying all creative attempts are 100% going to work, but it's worth a try. There's a million ways to sell anything online that costs next to nothing to start up.
@alyssa_faith
@alyssa_faith 5 лет назад
wannabehighlander totally! If you spend $5 a day on a coffee , 5 days a week that is $25 per week and $100 per month!!! If you do that every month for a year, that is $1200 per year on a daily coffee. You could buy a MacBook with all that 😂

In 1980 when I was 10 milk was 32 cents 1 gallon. When it was 1988 milk was 65 cents. Through the 80s it never left that range 35 to 65 cents . At least at the place I shopped gasoline same thing. Obviously you kids have your work cut out for you today. But I would say the best way today to stop working at 40 is the following. Step 1 even? If you have to take a major demotion always work 3 to 6 miles from your house. As your car is a major savings liability. Second learn how to fish. Meat accounts for 1/6 of your life salary. Third live in studios. Rent can consume 1/2 your salary. 4th save 500 to 700 a month. By 40 you won't need to work anymore.

When u said about the frozen stuff being expensive , here in the UK the frozen stuff is the cheap , especially if u get the supermarket own brand. The other day I got 8 frozen fish pieces for £1.90 (3.32 AUD) and frozen veggies are no more than £1 (1.75 AUD) You can also get stuff like frozen kebabs, hot dogs or burgers for about 99p (1.73 AUD)! 😅 Btw Put the conversions in AUD cos I heard ur from Australia lol 😂

Yep me too, I find that doing a monthly shop for my family of 5 in Aldi and Farmfoods saves me £400! Just by organising meals and freezing them flat packed once I have precooked it all. Amazing! We don't get many coupons here either except the odd 30p off cut out coupon in a magazine for something like cat food 😤 America looks fantastic for their couponing! Xxx
