You can do some truly strange things with the simple press of a button in certain games. Here are a few of our favorite weird examples. Subscribe for more: ru-vid.com?su...
I think Luigi's Mansion's "call for Mario" button deserves a shout out (pun intended). All it does is make you yell Mario's name, which is never used for any gameplay function and there's no real reason to do it.
it DOES change depending on Luigi's HP, though, so in a way it also shows Luigi's mental state. at full health he's calling out to Mario earnestly, but as his HP goes down he gets shakier and more panicky.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's hidden tech for that DMC5 command. There's so many interacting systems in that game that there's probably more to that move than just a neat thing with no purpose.
Didn't know the Saint's Row entry was called "the awesome button" but I thought one would figure that out immediately. I did, and I still love it just as much.
I don't think I ever knew it was a thing, just had those over the top melee attacks and assumed they were random, but I do think an honorable mention should go to the "hit in the nuts" button. I can't remember, but I believe that was the second game.
My fave "awesome button" takedown was the one where you made the boss run at the intend target from behind running bulldog then pose after planting the targets face Into asphalt
You guys needed to include the cheat menu in Star Wars Shadows Of The Empire on N64. Activating the cheat menu the first time required holding almost every button on the N64 controller then holding the stick halfway in multiple directions 4 times. Seriously I had to use my lips to hold the stick halway over cause I needed all my fingers to hold the buttons. Lol.
That was probably one of my first "Holy Shit" moments in gaming partly because earlier in the game, I was thinking it would be badass to shoot a portal to outer space and create a vacuum. Then the game up and does it at the end
It works sufficiently well you don't even realize that it really, really shouldn't work (at the rate the portal projectile moves, it should miss the moon in a week or two)
u can use the mirrors edge 1 in a few different parts in the game when armed (i know, the gunplay was trash) to dive off buildings onto crash pads n shoot back at some of the cops mid fall. the peace sign is just a stand in animation for a little flair if ur unarmed and in a game about flashy movement i think it feels right at home :)
No, the two fingers and the middle finger are not the same thing at all. Two fingers was to mock the French in the middle ages, specifically the English longbow men would use the salute to the French crossbow men and if the longbow men were captured they would get those fingers cut off
What annoys me is playing a game and then the second/sequel comes out which is basically the same game but with a different story or advances the story but the game makers decide its a good idea to change the button configuration.
It's really stupid when they make it so you can't change your settings no matter what. One game I played had the interact button be X in the first game and then circle in the next one while X was jump. So for the first few hours of the game I was jumping every damn time I tried to talk to somebody lol
@@darknesswave100 That still happens to me if I'm switching back to Sekiro from other games, and it's pretty funny. Now I treat jumping first as a bizarre and hilarious greeting. Makes me think of Monty Python.
Dragon's Dogma has an item you can use to suicide. It's actually required to complete the post game story. It can also be used to speed up farming special chests.
How about the Persona 5 hidden button? If you rub your finger against the touch pad (without pressing the button) on the ps4 controller while in mementos, Morgana (being a cat) purrs.
If by constantly regurgitating the same clips and points is how you avoid disappointment I'm sure it's called a small handsism and we know how you voted
I avoided them for so long because I thought they were just another copy/paste channel, but every video feels like these guys actually care about the content they put out.
@@Ahriman_II I'm someone that really hoped I wouldn't have to deal with dude being brought up every five seconds after last year, so I think you cramming him into whatever situation you want to insult someone is not only annoying, but self-defeating.
Shit can we just get some appreciation for falcon. Like the way he articulates these videos, his soothing voice, his mannerisms, his opinion on every video topic,m just everything he does it’s amazing. Thanks falcon for making this channel just that much more amazing than it already is x
Soothing BB in Death Stranding isn't really a weird side mechanic like putting down a rocket launcher or ragdolling on command. It's part of the core gameplay--the baby literally lets you sense enemies.
The list isn't about core mechanics, it's about button inputs that do weird s**t. And it doesn't get more weirder than using a baby floating inside a container to sense time trapped ghosts.
nier automata came to mind with the suicide button. it's more just pressing in the thumbsticks but your android ends up pulling off a self destruct and destroying their clothes, it does do damage to everything around you and you do still survive but with little health, if exploding didn't kill everything around you you just screwed yourself still on nier, what about the suicide ending? you know the one. the mackerel. could be another list of stupid endings you gave yourself
It's not a button press so I guess it wouldn't count, but if you try to get a peek of Kaine's derriere using the camera in Replicant she will scold you and get increasingly upset at you if insist. At one point she warns you you'll die if you try it again and...if you do it she carries out her threat, resulting in an instant game over screen.
That finger button is cool. The Vita is underrated in my opinion and I wish Sony had done more with that. Another strange button is the dedicated button to break wind in Oddworld: Abes Odyssey.
I saw the intro and thought "yeesh, really scraping the bottom of the barrel now Falcon..." but this is genuinely a great list! Plus it reminded me of how much I love DMC5 (even though I suck at it), and made me feel foolish for not having triedn it on my PS5 yet. So, thanks Gameranx!
Saints row IV christmas DLC where you can hold down a button to lick a candy cane gate. No point in doing it except to get the achievement for it but it is kinda stupidly entertaining
This may not fit the video concept, but I was instantly reminded of the izuna drop/piledriver you can do in Okami. The game never tells you how to do it, and there’s no technique scroll you can buy to learn it, like most of the combat abilities in the game. Okami is my favorite game of all time, and I’ve 100% it probably 4 or 5 times and have played it for hundreds of hours, but I didn’t know you could do this until my most recent playthrough this year! To preform it, you have to have a reflector equipped as a sub weapon, then simply block an enemies’ attack with triangle just before it hits you; like a parry in other games. Then Ammy will automatically preform the move.
There's also the 'draw a circle around someone to make them pet you' trick! It doesn't work with absolutely everyone, but even then it does make them sparkle a little bit.
The battle block theatre suicide button is a nod to alien hominid, in the stick figure hand held mini game, you can do the same thing for the exact reason falcon states in this vid
One of the weirdest ones would have to be in MechAssault where, after dying in a co-op PVE match, you spawn as a dude on the ground and explode yourself into pink mist.
Shenmue 2 has a button command in a QTE where you’re not supposed to press the button when prompted. You’re told not to move and then a QTE is triggered. You naturally want to press the prompt because you have a blade to your throat and you’ve been conditioned to follow these button prompts that have a distinct sound, especially if you also played the first game. But if you press anything you’ll fail and you’ll have to wait until the next day to retry it. The whole point is for Ryu to learn the martial arts virtue of remaining calm, but it’s weird because it’s the only time where you have to go against the mechanics of the game’s QTE system.
#8 00:04:00 You’re supposed to use the gyro-meter of your motion controller. When you put your baby into soothe mode, you’re supposed to take your controller and cradle it in your arms like you would a real baby, then you just gently bounce it up and down like your calming the infant. It’s cool, it’s weird but it’s a neat little feature. ^_^
For #4, The first 3 Little Big Planet games also allowed you to hold down a button to make your sackboy pop. It was even included in the tutorial as a means to go back to the last checkpoint in case you got stuck somewhere
Sadly it's going to be another long time before we get that... 5 was in 2019, itsuno is currently working on dragons dogma 2 which will probably be next year or the year after and after that, another 3-4 years worth of development time for possible DMC 6...
Speaking of suicide buttons, Battle Tanx on the N64 (at least the second one), in multiplayer if you hit all the C buttons at once it blew up your tank. It makes more sense in Battle Tanx because you have limited tanks and if you had one that you didn’t want or was weak against the rival one, you’d want to swap to a new one. Battle Tanx also had a secret button command I never knew about until around the GameCube era. In the second one, if you had I think at least 15 of a power up item, if you hit A and B at the same time it activated a secret power up and would take 15 from your inventory.
2:52 - I am watching Gameranx for almost 2 years, not every video but most of them and this is the first time I heard Falcon smile He always tries to stay cool 😂😂
I would like to add the smoke button on Vanquish that allows you to smoke a cigarette in the middle of a fight. And my all time favorite: the button to give the finger to Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 (after the quest to save the monk's friend from the Maelstrom, you get to speak to Johnny and he gives you the finger so you can give it back... This is the only time I remeber Johnny smiling in the game)
When I found the Mirror's Edge one back in 2008 I literally just stayed in that position for like a good minute thinking I had broken the game, but was confused why it was animated.
In Mirrors edge if you land on the big red landing pads on your back, she gets up instanly. Landing normally on her feet puts her in a long recovery animation. I doubt that this was intentional tho
Not technically a button press, but the bow gesture in ghost of Tsushima. Pointless, but part of the ambience. Plus all kinds of weird things happen when you do it. Like if you bow in front of certain frog sculptures, a whole bunch of frogs up here out of the ground and jump all over the place
Also that he has one of if not the strongest ultimate in the game. His level 3 does the largest amount of damage if not just underneath, like Devil Trigger Vergil ult, or maybe Wesker or Hulk's level 3s
Phoenix Wright has the most devastating moves in any fighting game. With the push of a button, he sues you for child support and ruins your entire life.
In my experience the Nioh 2 controls are incredibly well done. It just takes some time to get used to, but they made it as intuitive as it possibly could be IMO considering you have dozens of combat options available to you at any given moment. Hell of a game, and we’ll worth learning the controls to experience the best melee combat in any game ever!
I don't think it was out when this list was made, but in the same category of Pheonix Wright's moveset, Tom and Jerry in Multiversus did something similar! All of their moves are just them fighting, Tom trying to hit Jerry with a mallet or catch him, and Jerry dodging him like the cartoons. You just happen to get in the middle, they aren't actually fighting the opponent. I just think that's a super neat detail.
The "Jason!" moment is goofy, true... The fact that exact same voice line (devs were too lazy to record 1 or 2 more versions) repeating a dozen or so times in that sequence makes it even weirder.
Not sure if you’ll even see this, but I watch your videos every single day. No joke. Every single day. Whoever does your editing is awesome. The memes are always on point. I just want to say I love these videos and you all are awesome.
Having gone down a bit of a rabbit hole with them, I'd love to see you guys tackle your top 10 favorite/best video game trailers. Maybe worst or weirdest to follow that
@@OGFritoHaze Yeah I remember seeing those awhile back. I think more videos on trailers would be fun either way though. Just their insight on all the amazing but also super weird ads would be cool
Ragdoll was one of the first things I spent too much time on in GTAV back in PS3 release times. Something about Michael's screams in particular was just hilarious.
The Mirror Edge up yours is intended to be used while you jump down on thoses stuff who break the fall, you're ending on your back anyway, kind a way to give the finger to npc's chasing you.
Gta diving is for evading cars and explosions. Soothe baby button is for silencing the baby because the baby attracts BTs when crying. It also adds additional evaluation on the ending "score".
I agree the GTA 5 ragdoll function is one of the weirdest button commands I've ever seen, however, I will also say it's one of my favorite b/c it's so unneeded but they knew people were going to have fun using it so they add it anyway. My favorite things to do with it are to enable the invincibility cheat & either fall down Mount. Chiliad or jump in front of people or hospital front doors & see their reaction.
It might not count as weird, but unique or different at least. In the Godfather game, they describe the unique control design (black hand) in a behind the scenes type in-game video. In order to strangle an enemy, you target them with R1, grab with L1, then push in on both analogue sticks. This was meant to actually simulate the hand position and feel of strangling someone. Interesting idea, but maybe a little much?
Was gonna comment the "Self-destruct" command in NieR: Automata, then I remember that command blessed us with 2B-ooty so instead of weird it is a goddamn welcomed gift.
A really obscure indie game called "Death's Hangover" you can get a power up called "Fart". It give you a button to press that makes the character fart. It serves no gameplay purpose. Just... farting.
Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 had a good one also. I forget what the button was but if you pressed it you fell backwards and landed on your back. It was hilarious in multiplayer and certain conversations with friends to just throw yourself down backwards lol.
The GTA 5 one reminds me of custom spells in Oblivion where you can do similar by making a self paralyze spell and just using it on top of a cliff or wherever because screw it lol
