Lived all over Florida . Transplant 43 years . You guys are spot on ! Thanks for fair and honest assessment of Florida cities , towns and those from other galaxies. Hope you do more updates
The big difference between an inner city ghetto and a rural ghetto is that you can walk a few blocks to be out the inner city ghetto and it is part of a wider City with different areas within its boundaries. In a rural setting, you are stuck there and have to go miles and miles to have a break.
Rent in the entire Florida is crazy much less buying a house it's real nice for shopping but hard to find an apartment if you don't have a well paying Job so thank you for bringing the truth to all👍
Lived in Titusville in 1990 and I worked a paper route in an area nobody would deliver in. I carried a weapon but once they got used to me going in and why, no problem. We were broken in on, dude tried to break in my boys' room. Moved, daughter was born, came back from the hospital, got up and car was gone. The car was one month old and was taken to Mims and wrecked. Cops wouldn't prosecute because they said he was only 15, like that's an excuse.
Thank you for setting the record straight about Miami. I was very disappointed in Nick Johnson's vid on the area. Now 30 years ago I'd say yeah Miami is the most dangerous right up there with Jax. Miami has taken gentrification to another level. 😆✌
Thanks for the videos. My neighbor sent me a link for the video you took of my neighborhood in Jacksonville, off Hodges and butler on Christmas Day. It was so nice to hear commentary on how lovely you and your girlfriend thought our neighborhood is. I really love it. Then I found this video, definitely cracked me up. My grandparents lived in a senior community in Arcadia half the year a long time ago. Although their snowbird retirement spot was polished nicely, as soon as you left… definitely don’t make the wrong turn 🤣😂
I’m thankful y’all included rural areas, I grew up in a real rural area in Pennsylvania a lot, horrible property a lot of things normal to us there wasn’t normal to other people and it’s so hard to get out of poverty there it’s a 45 minute drive to file for any help with food, medical or career services and their is no public transportation to help with that and most jobs are at least half a hour away, unless you know someone at small businesses
I have been living in Valrico Florida for thirty eight years, everything you said is 100% true, my worst Florida cities to live is Miami, Avon Park, Port Charlotte, Key West and Arcadia, this is a fabulous video!!
I think you are a little off about Jacksonville. Housing prices have almost doubled in the last year. Not really something that would happen if the place is as "undesirable" as you say it is. Jacksonville DOES have some bad neighborhoods, but you have to understand that Jacksonville is the largest geographical city in the country. It's like 20 cities in one. The bulk of Jax is amazing. Just because a small portion of the city on the west side or north side is sketchy, doesn't make the whole city bad.
The appreciation comes from how cheap it was. The reason it was cheap is that people have been leaving the area. We made a video about moving to Jacksonville recently check that out
I’m currently in FL. Opa Locka, FL City, JAX, Tampa, Liberty City, Daytona, ORL, MIA. MIA has bad areas but it’s the neighborhood cities in Dade county.
I lived/grew up in Florida (Tampa) for decades and due to work, I became extremely familiar with all of the state. I traveled all over Florida - from Pensacola to Key West. For those not familiar with the state, a substantial and significant part of the state is rural living. Unless you have money and/or you earn a lot of it, you can expect a lot of what you see in this video. I know all of these towns and cities. South Florida is the part of Florida that I have never been fond of and never had any desire to live there: from Lake Okeechobee and especially the Southeastern part of the state (From FT Pierce to especially the greater Miami area, Homestead and most of the Keys). In addition, north of Tampa, no thanks either.
You have listed areas from all across the state. You are right about some smaller places not being very welcoming to new comers because the new comers are the ones bringing in all the problems. My wife and I are old now and both grew up in Tampa. It was a nice place in the 60s through the mid 80s. We now live75 miles north of Tampa in a rural area and love it. If you think you going to move here from up north and make Florida like the place you're running from you are going to find that people here won't like you. I've been all over the country and everywhere has problems so if you think Florida doesn't you are sadly mistaken. So spare us and stay where you are.
I work right around the corner from Palm Beach Lakes High School in Riviera Beach, FL. I see the kids walking to school every day. There are some good kids in Riviera Beach, but your right it is a rough place.
Lake City is a hole in the earth with a seemingly endless selection of dollar stores, gas stations, filthy and run-down strip-malls, vape shops and cannabis sellers. Bizarre architectural hodge-podge in every neighborhood. Where's the planning commission? Crawling with homeless who seem to have zero support from local leadership. I've lived in 3rd world countries and this is comparable. Abysmal. Thank God I've only had to have occasional drive-thrus.
We lived in Arlington (Jax) for 3 years. The first 2 years was fine. It wasn't the best apartment, but it was quiet. It seems like the minute we signed our third years lease, all hell broke out. A new neighbor moved in upstairs. We had so many drive bys. My husband's car window got shot out and I had to hit the ground when I was 6 months pregnant. Never again!
I live in Costa Rica and was just watching this vídeo because curiosity. What you call a hood seems like an idilic place compared against our hoods. Here our houses are all like mini prisons (bars on windows with tall concrete walls and even electric fences) all together with no space between each house.
@@jolus6678 I was in Orlando on April, the nice areas in US are almost as same as our areas for millonaires, but bigger in US. Just the police and the health system are nicer here than in US.
Its so funny no matter what state you visit there will always be locals telling you 1000 reasons why not to relocate there. Meanwhile, back in another state all locals feel the same. Is there a place on this green earth that’s truly safe and not impoverished?! Great video thank you- took many notes and chuckled occasionally 😊
born and raised in miami, i moved to a rural area in the panhandle. lived there twenty years, outsider when we moved in, outsider we we moved out. the meth shit got so out of hand my house had camera all around. the thiefs, tweekers, etc. even the police knew me by name and they knew i knew which ones played both sides. yeah, never felt at home, even started carrying a gun everywhere. well i moved back to the city, and damn now i feel back at home again.
🥺 I know exactly what you mean!!! I lived that nightmare for one year! Now in lehigh blasting cuban music grilled steaks and old white people come for a taste ❤️🌴
You mean the police realized which ones played both sides is all the police nowadays because the ones who don't claim they play both sides are too scared to say something to their co-workers. #truth
My aunt lived I Pahokee I the 80s and 90s. I loved it there back then when we visited. She loved the no traffic, but she complained about the crime starting to pick up back then. There was nothing to do, so the kids got into trouble to stay busy. It's sad it's gotten so bad now.
Ugh....Arcadia. Such a desolate, forlorn, rundown old dump. Located in the middle of nowhere, it's an eerie place with more than a few gutted, empty (read: haunted) mansions standing on the verge of collapse. These former showpieces are the rotting reminders of Arcadia's "golden age," (some 100-150 years ago) a time when lumber and citrus barons moved to the area and made their fortunes.
One thing that I love about driving through Pahokee is the tropical trees that grow there. Very tall royal palms line the roads and huge clusters of banyan, banana, mango, Royal poinciana trees are all over the place. It’s like a tropical jungle. Even more so than Miami
Yeah that tells you this was once a great place until the losers moved into it.. As i always say, don't want your community to turn into a shithole just make it impossible to live there unless you have a good job and steady income.. No Low cost housing No government assistance, also all the land lords who would rent make it so that you can't rent here if you have a felony.. i use to live in a place called Danvers In Massachusetts, best and safest place you can live, why? there is no rental property available there if you want to live there you have to buy a house there or condo. and the average cost to live there was very high, right now i think if you want to live in Danvers,Ma you need to make about $85,000.00 a year or more and $85,000.00 would be on the low end. The cheapest house you could get there is probably in the range or $500,000.00 to $600,000.00 and up, and as i said that is on the low end so if you want to live there you have to have a good job or be pretty wealthy to do it.. And The Police and the court systems don't play there, i remember one guy came from lynn,ma a shithole and decided to rob some ones house in Danvers and broke in and the people next door call the police and he got caught.. He was arrested and then found guilty of the crime and sentence to 18 years in prison it was armed burglary. The Defendant was shocked of what he got for a Sentence as if that was crazy, probably done it before in his community and got maybe 60 days lol. Not In Danvers, you do that there your screwed.. As a matter of fact all the Politicians and Police and Judges and mayors and all them Live In Danvers, Even celebrities from around there that is where they live... So think about it A Judge who lives there gets a criminal in front of him at his bench charged with Robbing a fellow Danvers residence that got robbed what do you think that judge is going to do? He is going to think i don't want shit like that happening to me or my friends i'm going to throw the book at this clown.... I remember this entire ordeal like it was yesterday, i was friendly with the police there use to go to the convenience store that they all go do got friendly with all they nice people and telling me the entire ordeal about it.. Judges there will slam any outsiders who come into Danvers to cause trouble, i remember once who got busted for road rage and got out of his car hit some ones car with a bat, making threats just because he wanted to illegally pass this guy driving like the asshole, and almost got into an accident so he decided to make it the other guys fault and start with the road rage bullshit. The cops arrived, arrested this guy and once again in front of the judge, and got 5 years in prison for doing that in In Danvers. Think about that 5 years for Assault, property damage to a car, armed assault, the Judged slammed this idiot, If he knew anything about that area and what they do to criminals he should have just moved on or not even pass though that town.. As i say they don't play games with criminals in Danvers, if you don't live there and you decided to be an ass and do something stupid expect to get heavy jail time, i never seen an outsider commit a crime in Danvers and not get stiff Jail time ,There is no such thing as probation or community service suspended sentence's punishments for outsiders there NOPE!!!
I’m from Philadelphia and relocated to Florida with my mother. She was ready for retirement and I’d recently been laid off, and decided to try somewhere new. Her friend told her how wonderful Inverness was, and it’s booming economy, and small town charm. She completely lied. 😂 There weren’t any jobs and whether it was Citrus County, Marion County, or Sumter County, it was all the same. Poverty with low wage jobs, tons of dilapidated trailers, and drugs everywhere. We tried Tampa, and while not as bad, it wasn’t much better. Pennsylvania isn’t perfect but, in my opinion, it’s better than Florida by tenfold. We’re so grateful to be back.
The irony is the house prices still steadily rising in those counties, despite poverty and lacking of jobs. It's no lie to say Fl is reaching the point to become an unaffordable state to live in for regular folks, except the riches.
All true. Thanks! Florida has been fir 80 years or so, jobs: agriculture/migrant workers, wage hotel jobs, delivery jobs, trades of a/c repair, drywall installer, plumbers, lifetime municipal jobs at elec.cos, water cos, parks & rec, boating excursions/fishing rental on your own boat (high ins.)... BRING YOUR OWN JOB: Tech, computer, ebay sellers, unless you want to work in a call center. There has never been a proliferation of office jobs or well-paid jobs. Popularized AFTER 1950s air-conditioning availability (schools were nit even a/c until 1970s), retirees/many Canadians, headed here for 6mo. residency often in trailers. No longer affordable, even the smallest no maintenance block houses, 2 bdrm w. carport, rent or own... IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE SINCE 2021-2, as the $800-1k rent or house payment folks ...has officially left the building.
No skills, bumming off your mom, living off government like most transplants down here, etc. Go back please. Bet you didn't look too hard for job. Just a story to to tell for being lazy. GO BACK if so damn great. You can make a good living here if not a bum. LOVE FLORIDA.
Im in NJ And Camden city is ruff bro...ruff!!!!there is still alit of good people there..the governments, rents and food make it much harder for the people in the hood... peace and love brothers and sisters.. great presentation
Your definitely correct about Jacksonville, Florida!!! We do have the worst crime here, and gangs here are notorious!!! It's really sad because lot's of neighborhood's here have went downhill over the past decade and now you see young people who run around committing crime and stealing, robbing and shooting anything and everything just because they having a bad day or don't like something you said or thought maybe you were looking at them.
Hey Jose, great videos! Really enjoy your trips around Florida. Just a suggestion, when you start your videos with “i’m Jose”, you should include your girl with a “and Katie” too. She adds a good deal to the overall enjoyment for your subscribers, in my opinion. I enjoy your commentary, but love hearing Katie’s input too. She should be recognized a bit more for her input. I mean this nicely, not disrespecting. Just a thought…take care, to you both.
Yes being a girl, it's very important to hear what she has to say n think from a woman's prospective. It might differ from a guys perspective sometimes. I love hearing her talk n describe places n recommend or not recommend certain places. Thank you Katie !!! You rock, girl !!!
I’ve live in the Florida City/Homestead for the last 16 yrs and I’ve NERVE EVER had a problem. Oh by the way I do HOME HEALTH and go into people homes all the time So it’s a great city
Thank God Central FL has 2 of the toughest and best Sheriffs in the country! Polk County has Grady Judd, Brevard has Wayne Ivey, and God bless both of them!
Lake City is one of my family's favorite spots to visit without leaving the state. The state parks, camping, tubing and outdoor living are truly old Florida and feels nothing like Alabama or Georgia.
WOODS!!! All that beauty. Old Florida, remote= Prisons, breaks, law enforcement, and nobody comes to help!!!! I drove through some of your places or beside them in a vintage Mercedes convertible 10 years ago--worse now--followed, ESCORTED really in front and behind. I felt lucky to get out of there. I am in my 70s in a straw hat, while stopping at a rural gas station that sold everything, the clerk GAVE ME a stars & stripes head kerchief to wear half under hat, and told me to lose the over-sweater and let my denim shirt be outside--you will look friendly, old and NOT rich, safer. He was from India, we noticed the usual scary crowd collecting in trucks and motorcycles outside, MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! He stood in doorway smoking as I slowly peeled away and got on the first Interstate I could find, relieved. The scenic route is not worth it, Easy Rider.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Ohhh, that's so horrible. I'm sorry you have to go through that. I hope you can find a way to avoid getting a bad back. That's no fun.
I’m from south Florida. Grew up in Kendall , which for those of u who don’t know is a part of Miami. I also as previously mentioned in another video lived for 10 yrs in n ft Myers and the cape. I really appreciate you taking time to showcase these places. I have seen slums all over the country. I have seen California slums. Florida by far has some of the worst places I’ve ever seen.
I live in Union County, pretty close to both old Town and even closer to Lake city. I won't argue too much at all about your assessment of old Town. A ton of poverty and all the trappings that come with it. Definitely some pros but a lot more cons . On the other hand I think youre giving lake city a bad wrap that's pretty much undeserved. I dont live there so I don't believe I'm being biased or taking your assessment personally. Lake city does have a few hood Hotspots that's undeniable. White hood areas around the five points area and legit on the other side of the tracks off of 90 is the typical hood that almost every city has. Once you're out of those areas it's pretty much a ton of positives. You do get a smaller town traffic feel which is nice because it isn't as populated as gainesville or ocala . You are 30 to 40 minutes or closer by ambulance from some of the best health care in the south east. You are an hour or so from beaches to the east you are a little over an hour from amazing fishing and kayaking on the gulf to the west. You are surrounded by more springs stateparks and rivers than its even worth listing here. You're day trip distance from Valdosta, Tallahassee, Jacksonville , and within 2 to 3 hours from Orlando or Tampa. The taxes are low the real-estate is reasonable and it's slower pace if that's what you're into. Plenty of dining, shops and a halfway okay theater. Plenty of jobs as well. Also jacksonville is 875 square miles the state of Rhode Island is like 1200. Every side of jax is like a different city. Some of them suck really bad, some of them suck less and some are pretty decent.
I lived in Jacksonville for two years I was very careful I did not like the smell now St Augustine is a good place to live or it was anyway all my best Ramon from Athens Georgia
I'm moving to Jacksonville today. Didn't do much research. Mostly did it on impulse because I got fed up trying to find a affordable apartment close to my job in Dallas. As I got closer to my move day, a lot of info about the negative aspect of Jacksonville started coming out. Than the day I am supposed to arrive, this video comes out. Let's see how things go. (Fyi...I am from the south side of Chicago. 87th &Cottage Grove...lol)
The remarks about people being in denial allowing gangs to have the run of the city are very accurate. They certainly describe Jacksonville...But...that leaves the police department as a sort of security force outside the areas ceded to the gangs. Property crimes are very very low here. Our young people kill each other for fun. The communities where they run things are very very dangerous when they are present...like alligators. But its not something you will see every day as a working person with a regular schedule and a mortgage.
Jacksonville is huge, so saying it's a bad area is kinda misleading. I wouldn't move there, because there are cheaper and more secluded places in Florida I rather live.
This was one of the most entertaining video about FLA. It counters Nick's pretty well. The unique rural problems part was hilarious. Having grown up in NC, I am all too familiar with that type of problem. Going out into the country can be a very ugly trip back in time. That's such a shame. I have lived in the country a couple of times. There are a lot of honest hard working people there. Too bad some of them are still fighting the Civil War.
@@douglasthompson8927 His mind set is capitalist transition. At least there is opportunity for improvement. However go to Cuba, WHERE HE IS FROM, and if you are fortunate enough to improve your environment, you have to bring your neighbors along with you. If not you are a capitalist and subject to prosecution which could include the loss of your capitalist assets all the way up to the possibility of execution, depending on how much you have offended the communist state. Give me a shack in Ft. McCoy any day!
I live in a Southside neighborhood in Jacksonville. I have quiet neighbors that keep to theirselves. Lived there for 4 years now, and never any problems. I have a buddy that lives in a different neighborhood across town, and same thing. Never any issues. It depends on where you are.
Titusville lost thousands of high paying jobs after the space shuttle program was closed down. Like 5000 direct jobs, 15,000 support jobs and businesses, GONE!
Everything was beautiful in Florida until tourists refused to leave. Now everything is falling apart and we're stuck with typical northern failures and their selfish way of life. Here's to a great hurricane season! 🍻🌬️⛈️
I'm from Jacksonville, and moved to the Keys for five years, and got to experience South Dade County for five years. It's a lot worse than Jacksonville. Florida City was interesting.
You did drive through the ghetto (Washington Street) as well as southbound on Marion Street and eastbound on US 90 in Lake City, without visiting the more upscale parts or even middle-class parts like Forest Hills.
The only place with opportunities is Tampa. Fort Walton beach is nice but just keep in mind that its a small place with limited everything there are no larger cities anywhere near the panhandle. Pensacola (banjos playing) is practically like living In Alabama SOLID PASS on that. The real question is small beach town or bigger city whats best for you. Tampa you better be talking a good area.. traffic sucks and the city is ghetto for sure. If you don’t mind a smaller area the beach town is great. Tampa end up in Lakewood Ranch or Wesley Chapel and expect a commute. Dunedin is nice too just north of clearwater. South tampa is great but expect a price tag
Funny how he tells you Tampa is a good place to raise a family, but did a bad video on Temple Terrace which is in Tampa☹️☹️.I swear this guy must be bipolar.
None of those places are real rural areas and no surprise at all. Except Moon Lake which is a place I never heard of and I've lived in Florida my whole life. The small rural town I live in is fairly safe for the most part. Most of the places you mentioned in this video are urban areas within the city limits of bigger cities. No surprises here
Perry is 40 min from any city and is the forestry capitol of the south. Fort Mcoy is 30 min from any place. Lake city is a farm town and so is Pahokee . Old town is in the country but basically a huge trailer park. He didn’t actually show fort Mcoy he showed a ghost town in Alachua county called island grove .
Some of those rural isolated areas could be quite beautiful if it wasn’t for the crime and junk left outside the houses. What causes it, drugs, poverty or just backwards attitudes?
Just moved to hudson in pasco county. My realtor mentioned the they had a crime problem. I just said im calling from Baltimore and that conversation was over
I appreciate your realtor being honest. But they are not allowed to talk about crime it violates their license. That realtor risked their license to be real with you, but at the same time… its still violating the rules.
Can't believe they're so many small towns that are so ghetto like these days, back in my hitchhiking days in the 80's and 90's I don't remember seeing small town America with so many shitty, crime ridden small communities and Arcadia is not even near a large city!!
Thank you for your videos showing rural hoods in Florida. Garbage thrown beside the road and in front of houses. Urban ghetto residents blame trash on the landlord but its your own frontyard in Opalocka so we take your advice no reason to go there unless you know someone there.........and you have to go..
Born in Pontiac, MI, but have stayed in Detroit proper most my life. All over the city, not downtown/midtown. Was low income a big part of my upbringing and young adult life. But I’ve been fortunate to solidify some lifelong connections and friendships in Florida allowing me to spend significant time in and throughout the state. Anyone that says FL hoods are softer than the rest of the country has NO idea what they are talking about. 65% of FL is on demon time, most the time. Still, absolutely love Florida.
Lady Lake Florida is one of them, great place to live, terrible place to have a business. they discouraged business at every turn. they will harass you until you give up and leave. take my advice, don’t open a business in Lady Lake, Florida!
@@thisismagacountry1318 they are control freaks, Anti-religious. On a power trip that never ends. I had to hire an attorney just to get them to talk to me and then they lied and said it wasn’t zoned correctly for the use that I wanted to do.
I have a question. So I ended up in the Tampa area (Port Richey). TBH we moved to where we could find a place to rent. A lot of the locals complain about this area and say it’s terrible. I don’t think it’s that bad. I came from Spokane Washington and it’s bad there. My question is, am I blind? Is it really that bad? So far I haven’t felt unsafe. In fact the only place I have felt un safe was downtown Daytona. In a year our lease is up and we will search for a place to buy. Hubby is in love with Spring Hill but it’s not exactly what I want. I want more of a city vibe.
Port Richey and New Port Richey aren't as bad as people say. In both I have friends and family who have lived there for many years and have never had any problem. Spring Hill is nice, but I say like you, "It isn't for me" because it's more on the slow side. Lol
I know a wonderful Realtor in Spring Hill, (not necessarily for you to buy a house there) since it isn't for you nor me. Lol... One thing I know is that most everything is less expensive in Spring Hill than Tampa.
Try moving to Brandon, or Riverview. Nice areas to live in, and they're both just getting better every year! If u do have the opportunity to move outa Florida, take it
