I felt bad for Rey he didn’t deserved to be booed like that but I do understand they wanted Daniel Bryan in the rumble, this is the creative’s fault not Rey
The fans wanted Daniel Bryan so bad that when Rey entered at #30, the fans basically dumped on not only Rey but everyone else. Batista won this match as a babyface but the fans relentlessly booed him because he wasn't Daniel Bryan. That booking decision dragged that Royal Rumble down so much, but it isn't the worst, the next years was far worse that the fans booed The Rock because Roman Reigns won it.
I still remember watching the 2014 Rumble at a buddy’s house. Big E came out at 29 and I said “30 is Rey Mysterio. He’s the only person who declared and hasn’t shown up yet”
Yeah my brother was saying that as well and I was like “no way they’re not putting Bryan in the rumble, Rey will just have to sit this one out” and then the music hits and it was honestly awesome in a morbid way to watch. It’s crazy to me anyone believes they always meant for it to end with that triple threat for the belt or that WWE would even try to claim it. It was so clear they had dropped the ball and honestly have never been able to consistently hold on to it ever since imo.
The worst part about Rey is that he said in one of those backstage promos that he was going to win the Rumble so when he came out I was wondering why they were booing him specifically.
I still contend that Daniel Bryan not being in the 2014 Royal Rumble is what made Yes-tlemania possible. If he'd been in the Rumble, it would've ruined the storyline.
I half-agree - Bryan should have been in the match but Batista was the right winner; Bryan getting screwed out of the win by the Authority in favor of a heel Batista would have set up the Yes Movement stuff, which fit the story better & made it a better one. But Bryan should have been in the match so as to have it be part of a story, not just Bryan being ignored for a story only the regime wanted.
I remember the Roman Reigns 2017 entry. I was still a big Roman fan and didn't mind his booking all that much. But that moment was sort of like the wake-up call for me and started to see what people were talking about. Roman's booking has been sooo much better lately since 2020. It's honestly incredible how much of a flip it's been.
It’s because people originally liked him because he was the silent badass muscle of The Shield. When they broke up, they gave John Cena’s lines to him. Then they pushed him so much people got sick of him. When they decided to let Roman be Joe, that’s when things fell into place.
@@MrNegativecreep07 There should be a rule that if you have a world title match, you are unable to participate in the Rumble unless there is some extremely contrived "I want to unify the belts at Mania" storyline going.
Honestly, that would have been amazing. Like, imagine it’s the 2014 Rumble. It’s number 30. Rey’s music hits. Everyone starts booing. But then, out walks Bryan wearing a Rey mask, shirt and tights. He pretends to be Rey with the entrances. He then runs to the ring and hits a 619. It would be amazing
I maintain to this day that Reigns coming in at 30 in 2017 was a genius move to make Randy Or ton’s win (which everyone saw coming and no one was enthused about) get a monster pop. Which, as someone who watched it in a room with about 40 people, it did.
It kind of made sense to have an underwhelming number 30 back in 1992. In those early Royal Rumbles, they hadn't cemented the idea of "surprise entrants". Just as any legitimate sporting event would do, they announced the full roster of participants weeks in advance on WWE Superstars. The only mystery was in the number they drew. So by the time number 30 rolled around, everyone knew in advance who it would be.
Chyna should be on this list for how she was squandered. She earned her spot in a major storyline plot point, was hyped up as a historic entrant, and then got in there and eliminated one person before Stone Cold took her out. She deserved better, but since she didn't get it, she should be on this list.
I'd love to see Shane come in at 10 and just get the SHIT kicked out of him by everyone. Followed by people constantly saving him from elimination just so they could have a chance to kick his ass. Everyone Puders the absolute crap out of him for last year.
I was at Clash of Champions 2017 😂😂 That title win was very surprising and very sudden. We got to see D-Bry get physical later with Shane tho, which was fun
could argue Wade Barrett in 2011 considering he was number 30 but not the last guy to enter the match. 0 buzz and 0 reaction since we know there's 10 more guys
As a massive fan of Dolph, to not get an explanation and him getting eliminated so fast pissed me off so much. Thought he was surprise winning the rumble.
The final entry in the 2017 rumble was special to me. I was in a voice chat with over 20 people and we’d all fantasy booked who may be the final man. Then Roman came out and… well, everyone said some combination of several four letter words.
The 2017 Royal Rumble event was overall great. Granted, I was there live so that helped, but the undercard as quality. Especially the Cena Styles match. I do remember the heavy hate Reigning down on that 30 spot.
I was one of those tens of fans that popped for Ziggler. And I'm not even mad at the trash talk at the end of that segment after remembering how much everyone rooted for OTIS, of all people, over Dolph so much they despised him.
I was there live for the Roman Reigns 30 entry in 2017 and boo’d my lungs off lol All day everyone around me was speculating Finn or Samoa Joe at 30, but once Roman came out, the anger, disappointment and utter heartbreak in the arena was indescribable
The fans knew Bryan wasn't in the match, but they still fooled themselves into thinking he'd be in it. They really ruined wresting around that time by hijacking shows.
So you wanted to see probably the worst main event of all time in Batista vs Orton at Mania? Did you forget how much blown up was Batista everytime he wrestled for 5 minutes? He was always compared to Goldberg. Fans hijacking shows (and Punk leaving) saved WWE and put them on the good track by having an okay WrestleMania, which was something that they forgot how to do before
People were hoping for the big surprise and creative didn't capitalize. Perhaps if WWE gave fans what they wanted they wouldn't have hijacked shows. Blame Vince and crew.
Question about Dolph Ziggler: He wins a title, vacates, disappears, for approx a month comes back in the rumble for a short, underwhelming stint, no reasons given? Is it just me or does this look like a 30 day suspension (wellness policy, maybe) followed by a drop down the card?
There was a running joke (if you can call it that) during the attitude era where every single number 30 gets in the ring, eliminates exactly only one person and immediately get eliminated. It happened with vader in '98, then chyna, then x-pac, then rikishi, and finally (and by far the funniest of them all) with booker in 2002. As far as I remember, we also knew who number 30 would be on all those cases. It was pretty annoying if you ask me.
Its unfair to boo Rey. I get fans were upset but he didn't deserve that. Batista didn't either. We wanted bryan. But they took it out the wrong way that night imo.
2014 could have been saved so easily. Have Kane be number 30, but on his way to the ring, Daniel Bryan takes him out and takes his entry. Explain it away as The Authority refusing to put him in and Bryan taking matters into his own hands.
Never heard a Royal Rumble go first silent then turn around and go completely hostile before even when Vinnie Mac won it, the boos then were expected 2014 even Batista stated people were going to blast them out of building in hostility, and good ole Drax was right.
Brock Lesnar’s win in 2022 is exactly what a number 30 entrant should do in kayfabe to be honest. I mean if someone could come in and use their freshness to throw out all the other contestants without getting thrown out then they used the number 30 entrant “award/privilege” to the fullest lol.
So the "worst" would've been anyone who entered 30 in 2014, because fanboys wanted Bryan? Gtfo with this BS list. I wanted a real list. Not yet another chance for grown men to whine about Bryan getting screwed. As if you don't whine about it in every other list you make.
I hate Bryan and his stans with a burning passion. The guy is the absolute personification of mediocre on litterally everything in the wrestling business. I really REALLY dont get the hype at all.
@@ETIENNELIVE I'm indifferent. I just think it's insulting to explain how the first 9 had lackluster or underwhelming performances, then say Rey is the worst of all time, just because he wasn't Bryan.
This guy only lasted a minute! This guy didn't eliminate anyone! This guy just danced! Ohhh boy, but this guy's the worst! He wasn't Daniel Bryan! That's the worst thing to do in a Rumble!
Feel bad for vader came along in the wrong era he came in the attitude era where it was about character work he would have been good in the 80s and early 90s
I am absolutely shocked that Rey still works for the WWE after they did him dirty in that Rumble match, making him the fall guy for the fans' sheer hatred and disappointment.
Yes WWE let all your stars announce that they are in the Rumble Match. Because Nobody needs surprises. Christ Vince. Sometimes i wonder If Something is going on in this head
Honestly on paper it was smart to have Rey be the surprise #30. WWE knew fans wanted Bryan but they weren't willing to pull the trigger on that just yet and they also knew if fans realized Bryan wasn't in the match they'd completely sh!t all over it. Having one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time make his return as the 30th entrant was a good attempt to lessen the potential blowback but obviously WWE underestimated how serious the "Daniel Bryan or Bust" crowd was
well, i still think they should kept nr. 30 away from the winners.... and they should let some nr. 27 win again.... if they repeat it every fucking rumble, that this is the 'lucky' number, they should make it lucky again....
Am I the only one who absolutely hated Cody Rhodes' #30 this year? It was sooo predictable and I just found the mens rumble match this year to be filled with holes and predictability. Like Rey never coming out or Kofi never being revisited? Why WWE
What actually happened to the Austin vs Booker feud?? The grocery store brawl is a classic moment in time, but, there was never any big matches between em.. That sucked to as I was anxiously awaiting them to.
Warlord actually didn't hold the record for shortest time. Sure, he did last the shortest time ever but this wasn't common knowledge before the "By The Numbers" videos started. For years, it was Bushwhacker Luke who was known for holding the record.
You were right about how easy it is to miss what tugboat did in the 1991 match, even to the point of missing that Hogan was the one that attacked him first.
1 undertaker won at number 30 in 2007 2 john cena returns wins the royal rumble at number 30 2008 3 triple h also makes his suprise return and wins the royal rumble at 30 in 2016 4 unexpected return brock lesnar comes in at number 30 and wins royal rumble 2022 5 cody rhodes makes a suprise return and also win the whole dam rumble match 2023
Is finding out who is number 30 that interesting though? Only 4 men have won from the 30th position. I know its meant to feel like prime spot, but kayfabe be dead.
Oh my god I remember being at the Alamodome in 2017 the booing was so loud like deafening. Funny 6 years later he was cheered at the same event same venue until he screwed sami
2023 Cody Rhodes as entrant #30 was pretty bad imo. Since they already announced Cody for the rumble there was no suprise and due to Cody entering this late he had next to no impact in the match compared to others or women's rumble winner rhea ripley who is much less of a star
I don't think Rey should be on here it wasn't a bad entrant just not the one fans wanted. Also Brock 2022 shouldn't be higher than some of the others where they lasted less time and got no one out
It's brock. I wanted to flip tf out when he came out and I made my dad watch the rumble 🤦🏾♂️. This is why I hate brock he sucks the fun out of every ppv. Great house show and TV guy. But he's the most boring part of every ppv imo.
