Im not a seaside town sort, but recently I had reason to call at Skegness and found the town very clean and tidy with very friendly local people. Yes its kiss me quick, slot machines and fun fairs but so are most seaside resorts at least there's lots for the kids to do.

Dude, north Wales does not have a 'freeway'. This is the UK where we have motorways and/or dual carriage ways. If the UK is so bad, why don't you live in the US where freeways exist? I live in a sea side town whose main property landlord, actively brought in most of the druggies from the North West. Its not the fault of the residents you showcase in your rather poorly edited piece, it's national policy. Not good buddy, not good.

You might want to try actually living in Great Yarmouth. It's not so much fun then. Not a good place to raise kids in either. It was not great when I moved to the Borough in 1987, and it's much much worse now. I also spent a couple of years living in Weston Super Mare in the 80's. In both cases the location was not of my choosing, but thanks to being posted t the area while I was in the RAF. Honestly I would not choose to live in a seaside town, and would have moved away years ago had I had the option.

The only one of these I know fairly well is Worthing, and I think it is a very pleasant town, and the beach front perfectly acceptable.It has some beautiful parks and gardens, good shopping, some entertainment, and beautiful countryside and historic towns and villages surrounding it. No one in England, surely, expects to spend all day lying on a sunny beach-- it is good to have other options. Also, it's pretty close to Brighton if you want a lot more entertainment choices. Worthing is in fact a fairly well-rounded town, residential in most part (a good place for retirees), not a place single-mindedly devoted to beach tourism.

I'm amazed!... Speaking as a Scot, we have so many resorts that are a lot more crappy than these ones and you haven't even mentioned one of them. You must be either prejudiced or ignorant. How can anybody not know just how awful places like Girvan (the spiritual home of the slosh) or Rothesay (claim to fame - the most beautiful public toilet in the world) really are. Indeed, the firth of Clyde is littered with them, just one lousy resort after another where it's raining as often as not. Personally, of course, I love them all, but then, taking pride in our own misery is a Scottish trait.

One of the most ridiculous videos I have ever endured. In 0.28 - 0.31 he speaks about these resorts being "there" in the UK. - which obviously suggests he isn't even in the UK. He is just basing these comments on the odd negative reviews that he could find that fit what he is trying to achieve - not actual experience. - e.g. the Colwyn Bay review that electric and plumbing weren't being maintained and the fact that no food was available - WHAT! - in the whole of Colwyn Bay there was no food????? Sounds like a one off review from someone who stayed in a small pub that didn't do meals. The Great Yarmouth one was ridiculous as well - "the overcrowding meant that there were more services than the management could handle" - which management - a single place, a couple of places or the whole of Yarmouth". Sounds like another individual review to me. Great Yarmouth is well known for getting busy - I would think that the people who run Great Yarmouth would be well aware of this and make plans for such an influx even if occasionally it struggles to cope- it's hardly a reason to criticise a place. I could go on and on picking holes in this but what would be the point. Why do people spend their time trying to make things harder for these places that are struggling to come out of the Covid pandemic - why not show them some support rather than sticking the knife in with what are clearly distorted facts.

What a load of utter rubbish . I’ve spent time in all the places mentioned in this so called survey both through work and touring holidays ,with the exception of Worthing which I admit is a little underwhelming [although with it’s close proximity to Brighton with its abundance of attractions I fail to see why anyone would choose Worthing for other than a restful break] As for listing Ilfracombe I have stayed there several times and always had good accommodation and enjoyed the character of the town and nearby countryside and attractions This list is obviously made by city dwellers who would visit Iona and complain that they didn’t find a McDonald’s,who else would go to a seaside town and eat pizza,what’s up with the local seafood . By the way we are in Britain,it’s miles not km . I find it a sad that people can put things like this on RU-vid and maybe influence people with their biased opinion’s

I think it depends on what people expect out of a seaside resort. Plenty do want "a restful break"! I know Worthing a bit, since my mother lived in Shoreham-by-Sea for years and had close friends in Worthing. This town isn't geared up as a seaside resort primarily, but as a good residential town on the sea, with a lot of the amenities directed toward residents rather than exclusively toward day trippers or people wanting a lively time. Let's face it, if you want to lie on a sunny beach all day, you don't choose the U.K.! If you want 24/7 entertainment, you probably choose London, or Brighton on the southeast coast. Worthing has some beautiful parks and gardens, a good shopping center (pedestrianized), and the sort of beachfront where you go for a brisk walk with the dog rather than just slumping on a towel. It's an excellent center for trips into the beautiful countryside and to see historic cities and villages and other tourist attractions. Maybe not so good if you want to spend most of your time in an amusement arcade.

Worthing and Margate are most certainly not "resorts", they are seaside towns. And Margate Broadstairs and Ramsgate have fantastic beaches. I recokno the bloke who put this piece togather has never been to either. Margate has bsiros and restaurants where 15 years ago there were just greasy spoons. Old Margate is super as well. Just to add, Margate has the highest rise of property in the last year than anywhere else

Worthing is not that bad at all. It has a beautiful quiet pier, a fine beach that stretches for miles and it is multicultural, all the time coming up with new artistic innovations. The only downside is the interior as the town has lost a lot of fine buildings and there is some ugly buildings facing the sea, and it has lost several shops that should not have been lost. The beach is accessible from the pavement, a treasure of a cinema called The Dome which is worth a visit in itself and it is kept up to perfection.

As it is not a holiday resort it does not have any of these things, attractions, fairs, carparks, arcades, cafes. The main reason is the coast is entirely separate from the town by the motorway and the railway line. Even the old pier was knocked down by the council. Your so wrong on Margate, yes it’s had some challenges, but definitely on the way up. Dreamland is a lovely retro amusement park that has a wonderful stage with various top artists performing this year. The old town is a delight with a great hipster atmosphere. To be totally fair the original shopping high street isn’t so good. Sam Mendes used Margate for his latest film production with Olivia Coleman and Colin Firth, see how Margate has scrubbed up when it’s released in November. It’s called Empire of Light set in the 1980’s so ignore the skinheads and scooter boys running riot.

Most towns seaside or not, are in their death throws, with boarded up shops, Supermarkets and Amazon taking all their business, the huge increase in population over the past 15 years or so, has caused low wages and high rents, the young have empty pockets, ground down by zero hours jobs, most from broken families, who've never really experienced the joy of a family holiday, like all mighty empires, ours is on its way out, caused by incompetent leaders, and greedy conglomerates.

Blackpool has lost its way. When it was a family place it fared well. When you start having stag do's etc you lose families. Most resorts are full of desperate people because theres plenty of accomodation. Nice folk wont go there to mix with people you wouldnt choose to live with.
@malbecmikegrey996
@malbecmikegrey996 2 года назад
@@barbaraaimson2100 agreed - I think the Blackpool powers-that-be simply looked at Brighton and thought "that's us". Brighton is effectively an outer suburb of London; Blackpool does not have a similiar link with Manchester. Also, relatively few people treat Brighton as a holiday base (day trippers, mainly); Blackpool still tries to maintain a huge B&B industry, against all odds. Brighton is a major commercial centre and employment base in it's own right - Blackpool certainly is not. All in all, Blackpool needs to find it's own path forward; best of luck to it, but I'm not optimistic.

I think Eastbourne deserves to be on the list and high up. Too few facilities, the streets are dirty, most of the biggest retailers are gone, there are too many tourists [too many make it hellish if you have to live in a place], there are areas which no-one would want to go, unless they wanted drugs and the "new" shopping centre treats you to wind and flooding dependent on the weather.

How can you knock these places when they are receiving little funding from the government because it has all been diected to the more wealthy areas. The working classes of this formally great Country have to get their holidays where they can afford to be. I'm sure they would love to have better, the beaches in these places are beautiful but the amenities are not very good and in some cases they are catering for the kind of people who have not the knowledge of what the British people deserve. I challenge your evaluation of the resort, I ask you to investigate the money laundering projects and the amount of public money invested in this town and then I will maybe accept your findings.

I live in Weston Super Mare and work in Burnham-on-Sea. I agree with the comments on the video about Weston. It’s been going downhill for years and even though the council are trying to improve things, they’re coming out with some stupid ideas. They closed the open air pool on the seafront and use it for exhibitions which are normally rubbish. If you want to come here for a week’s holiday, don’t bother. Go to Minehead, Weymouth or Woolacombe instead. If you enjoy coffee then you are spoilt for choice here. The same can be said for hairdressers/barbers, charity shops, nail shops and vape shops. Come here and don’t complain about the mess.
