Agree with the Strike. I will say I have never watched Star Trek until I got Paramount + with my cell phone and I binged every movie and series the first half of the year. I love streaming but the creators need to be compensated

Fans seem to forget that just because you love something doesn’t mean an entire television show can magically appear out of nowhere. A show set in the 25th century with Seven as captain of the Enterprise might well be in production (though it’s unlikely to be called Legacy. Marketing won’t want to let a producer name a show via tweet) but there has to be a lot of boxes ticked before they announce it.

Dis-Honorable mention that we had no new real Short Treks again. I really liked those

I just wanted to say for the upteenth time, that the original Animated Series has a special place in my heart because it introduced me to the crew of the Enterprise. I was way too young to remember TOS episodes, and was, sadly sorta scared of the Enterprise herself (machines scared me back then; it took me forever to learn how to vacuum a carpet without being scared of the vac). TAS helped me get to know the crew, not just Kirk and Spock. I think that if I were a kid at the time of TNG, Enterprise D would hae been less scary

I think the fact they cut back on the actor budget for Picard S3 was a downer, given there were plotlines to bring others in from Voyager, maybe more from DS9 & TNG too, but they just couldn't (or wouldn't) stump up the cash to get the actors, even if said characters turned out to be changelings, like the first Tuvok interaction, it would have been a great addition, even just to see if ol' Harry Kim had more than one pip at long last...

The Dominion should have been the final antagonist. The Borg storyline has been done to death.

I’d certainly love to see a series with 7 of nine the captain: her character grew so much throughout the voyager and then into Picard.

Is me or did Terry Matalas get the history of the Dominion war wrong? Especially about the cure. Seven’s vast knowledge of the Borg wasn’t utilized. I do want to see a new Star Trek series with Captain Seven. Now that the delta quadrant is more accessible.

Also about Legacy not being announced yet when SNW was announced fairly quickly, remember there was a giant writers and actors strike recently too that’s messed up a lot of projects industry-wide

I did not realise that the end of Picard s3 was spoiled by the captions. Whoops! I'm relatively glad I had got into that series late enough to miss that!

I liked the STW Rigel episode, as someone who has no nostalgia or interest in revisiting TOS or TAS trek the lack of connective tissue didn't bother me at all and the episode worked as a stand-alone adventure.

For my money, I wish they'd have just left the Titan as the Titan at the end of Picard S3. It already had an "-A" registry suffix, which _should_ mean it has a lineage of some distinction. The events of the season should have simply been a worthy continuation of that lineage! It's myopic, shrinking the size of the universe; apparently only ships named Enterprise can have accomplished monumental acts of heroism

I'm fine with Discovery ending after 5 seasons, its more than enough. It's getting more than Enterprise got, and that was a much better show.

Honestly, cancelling Discovery was a mercy killing, I have no objections there. I lost all interest after they got rid of the only characters I liked. I'm loving Strange New Worlds so far though.

10. Maybe they are trying to figure out a way to retcon the neo constitution class so the Enterprise -G can actually be a good looking ship rather then that thing we got. I mean turning the beautiful luna class into that was a horror show!

I hope Michelle Forbes and the Anything Is Possible In Scifi Gods, find a way to make Ro Laren an integral part of Star Trek going forward. I understand why they killed off her character, my goodness that emotionally hit hard with me, but Michelle Forbes is such a fantastic actress and Ro Laren such an interestingly character, I'd hate to think her brief moment in Picard season 3, however perfect, will be the last we see of her.

Your #1 WORST is bang on. The Very Short Treks were awful. You managed to find the only good aspects of them.

The worst of 2023 was confirmation of Section 31. Thankfully it's a movie and not a whole series. NO SECTION 31!

How do I get the replacement bluRay for Picard season 3?

I remember as a child. A episode of the Batman animated series. Of all the Villains of series casually sitting and having a game of poker. I'd love that for numerous villains across the multiple series of ST.

8:07 - CBS (Paramount) did the exact same thing with the television series Supergirl. For whatever reason it had a very short run on there before being discontinued. The CW picked up production of it running it along side other DC Universe based TV shows, and it flourished for several more seasons and even crossovers.

Personally, I don't want a new Trek show with any legacy characters. Other than maybe brief cameo episodes. I don't want another prequel or anything on a new or old enterprise. Give us a new series set after Picard. With a whole new crew on a whole new ship.

For me, the biggest miss was revealing yet another "Enterprise" when the new ship should have been the "Picard". Seeing Sir Patrick act his way through the reveal would have been glorious.

Glad to hear Netflix picked up Prodigy. I was legit angry it got cancelled.

If you're unhappy about Prodigy getting cut, then you're going to love the rumor of a Paramount and WB/Discovery/HBO merger. David Sazlave is already known for killing HBO and carving it up for parts. Imagine what he'll do to Star Trek.

2023 will always be my most important year of Trek as it's when I started watching all of it on Paramount Plus. My order has been Discovery, Strange New Worlds, OG, Animated, TNG and I'm on S5 ep20 of DS9 and S3 ep21 of Voyager. Then I will have Enterprise and then I can finally watch Picard and Lower Decks!!!! Currently I am sick to death of Ferengi that aren't Nog Rom or Quark and madly in love with Janeway.

We need a legacy series far more than we need an academy series.

I seem to remember news on a "Pike series" took quite a while, with a whole lot of "all I can say is that we hear you" back and forth before finally getting a solid, positive answer. Honestly, I wouldn't expect to hear anything before Summer 2024, especially considering the disruption caused by the strike. Eight months seems far too early to expect to hear anything. (Though if you pulled out a timeline for the SNW announcement and proved my sense of time is broken, I would not be terribly surprised. 😏)

Ok positive I get it, but smoll critique? Knocking Rigel 7 while ignoring the horror that was ep 5 of season 2 is unfortunate. Can we PLEASE talk about how bad that ep is. They ignore all Vulcanic culture we have gotten over the years to make a laugh on how Spock's genes being turned human made him lose all his LEARNED CULTURE. He learned how to meditate, he learned how to speak. . . . The food jokes fine. It is a very SMALL step of being just as bad as Voyager "splitting" B'lanna.

Alright, folks need to take a chill pill with this Legacy business. Like you said, it's only been 8 months. It was over a year from the end of Disco S2 to the SNW announcement. Add into that the strike... Legacy isn't going to move forward without their big name cast members, and the strikes represented months and months where they couldn't even talk to each other to negotiate. Given the excitement about the concept, I'd be stunned if they didn't at least attempt to greenlight Legacy. But the fact that we haven't heard anything by this point means literally nothing... in fact, folks thinking we should have had an announcement by now is more than a little silly.

Could you have tuned it using harmonics? Can you tune it an octave down from standard?

The thing about Legacy is it'd be a Federation starship having Star Trek adventures. That's what Strange New Worlds is. How would they be differentiated other than the setting in time?

I hope they end up making Legacy and if they do make a section 31 movie I hope that they think it through carefully and do their Trek research. I also hope that we get a DVD release for Star Trek Discovery season 5 and the other shows. With the merger looming things may be up in the are there may be drastic changes

“Where’s Legacy?” They ask - in a year where it’s not even been planned, only teased - IF they do something. In a year that had a months long writers’ strike AND actors’ strike. In a business that needs to be careful before just throwing a series out there. I’m willing to bet the thought is there for SOME sort of continuation - otherwise we wouldn’t have had that teaser end. But they had to see how well Picard was accepted (after two seasons of people just warming up to it…)

#7, i didnt know, i stopped everything StarTrek, including this channel, so i wouldnt get any season 3 spoilers past it's bring back the all the main cast, and i didnt watch any of it until the last episode aired. even then i didnt watch it all at once. i made myself watch reruns, i finish Picard early December. i'm only here now, because im on a break from StarGate Universe and i got side tracked on my way to PIC season3 ups and downs, which i'm going to watch for the first time.almost done with SNW as well 2 episodes left. glad the only spoiler i got so far for that was #6 and "cliffhanger ending".

They could try to do a couple of standalone stories in the meantime like TV movies or three parters.

I really hope that we get Pike meeting Picard.

What could be worse than cancelling prodigy? Very Short Treks. Oh yeah…I had totally blocked those out of my mind. They were SO bad.

Also the credits of Picard in every episode tells you everything you were going to see.

As bad as you think recent Star Trek has been, it's only going to get exponentially worse if warner discovery buys paramount.

Down with DISCO was not only the 2nd best thing of Trek 2023 with best being Picard Season 3, but one of the best things to happen to Trek in years.

I i agree with this years short treks being #1 (worst of the year) I was really excited about short treks being animated, but what we got was stupid. Unfunny. Complete waste of time. It was exactly what I feared Lowerdecks would be like before that show came out (I’m so glad that Lowerdecks is INFINITELY better and more funny and sincere)

Disagree about Among the lotus eaters. I thought it was a very good episode and gives enough information about what came before The Cage and still giving a new interesting story. I didn´t mind at all that we didn´t get more about Rigel VII

Their biggest mistake is spending more time in the TOS era, we loved Picard not just because it brought back familiar characters, but gave us a sense of everything after the final film. What happens in the 25th century, where some characters are now. The only thing I dont like is how dystopian everything looks, Star Trek had that utopia feel about it in every show, that all went to shit between the last film and the first Picard season it seems.

Legacy was a fan (me included) request which gained momentum until to some it wasn't a fan idea....it was happening, why wasn't it announced yet. This is an interesting fan idea and one I support but it seems the tail is wagging the dog again.

Some people's reaction to the musical episode was a bit extreme

I really disliked Picard S3. I have never seen a more by-the-numbers, fan-service-driven series in my life. At least the first two seasons took some big swings and tried to do something new. S3 was just one long string of callbacks, Easter eggs, and warmed-over plot points done earlier and better in previous Trek shows and movies

If i ran star trek i would save first contact day for a few others 1) announcement of new show/updates 2) announcement or continuation of star trek games 3) I would launch an endeavor with the help of fans and actors to get involved in making trek your reality, whether thats showcasing amazing trek fans who changed lives, invented things , etc. 4) panels and fan gatherings as for trek universe. each new season means more money and higher salaries. So I would ditch paramount plus and make star trek everywhere from pluto. apple tv, netflix, and live television, maybe back on CBS weekly. I would add legacy as the new trek flagship and look to utilize trek conventions expand with new books, podcasts etc. I would also sponsor with possibly lego to see if they would create ultimate collector series of ships mini diaramas like they do for star wars.

Seven and the new/old crew are great and really could hit it out of the park. So much new ground to cover and so many opportunities to involve legacy characters. Discovery has been up and down from day 1. 2. As for the cartoons - thanks but no thanks. 3. Picard suffered only in that the writers and show-runner never allowed Picard to fully embraced his maturity. He has a new body with lot's of life yet - and if he wanted to, could presumably flip a switch and live much longer. Soong is still around and could make Laris a new body if she wanted it. If I'm not wrong, Picard has a home back on Earth, doesn't he? So why the big happy ending with his old friends out in space and his wife nowhere to be found? 4. SNW - Now we're talking. 5. LEGACY as well as Section 31 (finger's crossed - notice the further we get from Roddenberry's initial violin of the future - the more Star Trek seems like today - with all the strife and human failings) are Trek's future IMNotSoHO.

I actually very much enjoyed the short animated treks. You didn't even mention the worst thing of 2023, those god awful dancing rap battle klingons. That was so bad it nearly ruined STW for every trekkie i know. Uggghhh

3:54 very nice bit of editing there. _Very Short Treks_ were the worst moment for me, aside from "Holograms All the Way Down" which was actually good and the very last one which was inoffensively mediocre. Such a massive waste of a concept.

if we want something to blame we dont really need to look further than our own community. We saw fans and youtube channels complain and complain about Trek over and over again through recent years. You think a studio will keep pushing something received like that? Nope..

I would include the ST:SNW musical episode. When you get a very limited number of episodes, you can't afford to waste one (per my opinion) on such a useless plot. It did nothing to further character arcs or ST canon.

I think you missed the biggest/ worst moment of 2023; taking a perfectly good Luna class ship, ripping it apart and reconstructing it to look like an older clunkier ship, then have the balls to rename said older looking boxy ship Enterprise. Like WTF?? Let's make Star Trek boxy again?? No thank you!!

I would like to think that the people over in Paramount wouldnt ignore what everyone wants. Ive been holding out hope that they would announce it during discovery. If they opted for section 31 over legacy that would be tragic

Paramount unceremoniously dumping Prodigy was enough for me to immediately dump their service. It's not like they were offering much else worth watching.

Sad thing is, there is no desire to see this kind of Star Trek. That's why Legacy was banded about but never happened, same as 31 etc. Discovery is on its last season too. I think they burnt too many bridges I'm sad to say. Should have hired better non-millennial writers (I say that as a millennial myself). The proof is in the numbers, Picard Season 3 only did reasonably well because it got the TNG cast back, other then the memberberries, the story was lackluster as a lifelong fan. Interesting idea but wasn't brave enough to have something to say.

The cancelling of Prodigy should have been #1. Even if you didn't like it, it was an attempt to move Trek in such a different direction and yet still bring in older characters. It deserved at least a three season run to get up to speed. Let's hope Netflix can keep it going. My #2 would have been the SNW musical episode. Terrible. Paramount cancelled the creative expansion of the ST universe with Prodigy but yet green-lit this musical waste of time?
