10 WORST WWE Matches Of 2020 

As bad as the Fiend vs. Orton match at TLC was, the visual of an on-fire Fiend striding towards Orton and slapping on the Mandible Claw will always remain a favourite.

The Gargano vs Ciampa rivalry is such a tragic story bookingwise. The feud officially kicked off in 2017 when Ciampa turned on Gargano. But because Ciampa was injured, it was put on hold until Ciampa's return at Takeover: Philly in 2018. The feud was finally resumed and was going so well to Takeover: Brooklyn IV (even with Black getting injured and removed from the story prematurely). And right when we were about to get the ultimate climax to end the feud at Takeover: New York/Brooklyn V in 2019, Ciampa gets injured... *again* mere weeks before the match, leading to Adam Cole practically playing the role of substitute and kicking off the Cole vs Gargano feud early and having that consequently stretch a bit. But Ciampa eventually returns to face Cole for the title at Takeover: Portland and gets screwed by Johnny, rekindling the feud to set up for the ultimate payoff we've all been waiting for. But then mother f***ing covid happens, which ended up watering the match down completely and outright removing the crowd factor that probably would have been whit hot to see this thing reach its conclusion. The universe just did not want this feud to succeed

Funny thing about the Swamp Fight is that it was hyped up as a Universal Title match on the WWE Network. And then the match happened, Bray won, and didn’t win the title…

You gotta admit that randy burning the fiend was a cool visual

I think Orton v Edge did not deserve to be here, it had a lot of good bits and even though it does drag by the end, at no point you think ''This is bad professional wrestling''.

I'll never forgive Goldberg for what he did to Kevin owens and bray.

In terms of pure spectacle, I honestly really liked the Firefly Inferno match

I really disagree with the firefly inferno match being on here. The ending alone made up for the brawly match and the rivalry would go down from here, it was still fine at this point. It was a fun fight with spectacular ending moment of the on fire RKO.

I'll actually say this about the Rey vs Seth Eye for an Eye match. The actual match itself was wrestled fine, good even. But the stipulation killed it. If it was a regular extreme rules match with maybe a couple spots focusing in on the eye as a reminder "You tried to blind me, f-you" then it would have been saved.

I honestly enjoyed the Firefly Inferno match. If nothing else it gave us the coolest RKO ever when Bray was still on fire

The best part of the eye for an eye match is that malakai black kept the 'injured' eye in AEW

I recently rewatched New Day vs Usos at HIAC 2017 and it got me thinking about a top 10 best opening ppv matches list. I think that'd be pretty cool

How can you not mention the "HOLY SHIT" moment when The Fiend just lit the whole arena in flames! It was an odd sight to not have the usual burners around the ring at the start and then after a big move, the fiend turns to the hard cam, yells lifting his arms and WOOOOOSH!!! I have not felt this invested into a wrestler having supernatural powers since Undertaker's haydays. Sure the rest of the match was ... well it was. But that moment alone was great!

The Fiend VS Orton at TLC 2020 is one of the funniest matches I’ve ever seen; mostly cuz of the fact that The Fiebd was on fire and the flames were put out when Randy hit the Fiend with the RKO

In summary 10: spooky scary nonsense 9: weird and has too much fire 8: covid 7: terribly structured 6: too damn long 5: squashed a promising talent 4: worst spooky scary nonsense 3: too convoluted 2: someone lost an eye 1: grandpa squashed the best character in ages

Honorable Mention to the Street Profits/Viking Raiders…umm, competition, at Backlash that had bowling, ninjas and turkey legs and killed the momentum of two pretty great teams.

I like how the idea is: if it was a good Bray/Fiend match then Bray booked it, if it was bad then Vince must have booked it - like Bray can do no bad

I put that last man standing match on when I need something to fall asleep to. You may laugh, but it's amazing for that lolol

While I don't think Wyatt/Strowman at MITB was a MOTY candidate it was an alright big man match although I think the Summerslam match they had should of been on this list.

Am i the only one who loved Wyatt TLC inferno match ...... It was the best use of pandemic restrictions..

If the first two lists that Cultaholic did for the worst matches of year lists follows the blueprints of TripleJump's worst games of year lists, I would definitely accept it.

I think the Women's Elimination chamber match entry was a bit off, only in that I think Shana should have come in 5th, not 4th or last. I think she should have cut down everyone, then have an intense stare down with Asuka, before the two having a dope showdown as the finish. Would have scraped up some more legitimacy for Asuka, while still getting across Baesler as a huge threat. And also maybe have her win at mania would help that too.

Was Randy supposed to be the face in the inferno match? To me it was Bray, mostly because Randy was coming off his massive heel run that year and his character was not adjusted until he teamed with Riddle and did RK-Bro. Even during the formation of RK-Bro randy was still acting heelish, he RKO'd riddle after matches and kept refusing to team with him until eventually Riddle got his respect and they finally started teaming. I understand the spooky antics can be considered heelish but Orton was CLEARLY the heel to me in that feud.

It's so strange to me. Undertakers character worked because WWE protected the fear Undertaker would instill in opponents, and a huge part of that was that he a 6'10 300lb monster in the ring, and could compete with ANY top star. The fiend has a good physique and a fantastic look for someone to take on the supernatural identity but why the hell should anyone be intimidated if he loses every match? And gets clowned on constantly. Imagine Undertakers ministry of darkness but viscera just sat on Taker and killed him... Or he kidnaps Stephanie McMahon, and then she comes out of a box like structure and makes him puke black sludge and kills him. I can't buy into Bray being threatening, or anyone else being afraid of him when he's constantly booked to lose and get clowned on.

Just like Brock vs Kofi the year prior, the outcome between Brock and Ricochet was obvious. But did the underdog have to get squashed in seconds? Couldn't the underdog have gotten some offense? I guess not when Vince was in charge.

how did the 2 Kairi Sane vs. Nia Jax matches not made this list, 1 had Kairi getting her neck almost broken from a buckle bomb and the other had Nia irish whipping Kairi head first into the steps and busting her open.

Christ, that eye for an eye match was terrible. I doubt it's a coincidence AEW were doing all their eye stuff with Moxley around that time but at least that wasn't quite so offensively bad. I did love the way WWE just gave up after a while and had Rey appearing with two undamaged eyes without explanation.

The Fiend was such a bizarre but entertaining character. He NEVER needed the belt and shouldn't have been given it. He simply should have attacked his foes and brutalized them with simple spooky nonsense. Though I will say the firefly inferno match was a nice visual spectacle.

In my opinion, the Firefly Fun House match exists on both ends of this spectrum. It is the easily the worst match of the year... from an in-ring/action perspective. But from a storytelling perspective, easily the best match of the year.

Orton was a heel and bray a face when the inferno match happened. I remember Orton had turned heel when he turned on edge that year after the rr. Bray turned face when he attacked retribution and Andrade/zelina on raw

One spot I remember from the Orton/Edge match made me so uncomfortable, that I honestly can’t believe WWE did it. For context, Orton did a hangman’s spot to Edge on some gym equipment. They did this spot almost exactly a week after the Dark Side of the Ring episode on Benoit, where they went into detail about how Benoit hanged himself on his gym equipment. It makes you think about what Vince was thinking, or better yet, not thinking. Even if there was a possibility that it was taped before the airing, it still should’ve been cut from the show!!!

Dang! I'm glad I watched this! I was waiting for the mention of the Wrestlemania where Alexa Bliss (technically) beat Bray Wyatt... ugh... that was in 2021. I guess I had a Pandemic/Mandella experience. .... JMBO.... that was the only bad Bray Wyatt match in history. ..but, I'm biased. Worst 2020 match was the Eye For An Eye Match.... YIKES!

The problem I had was that Shayna shouldn't last in the elimination chamber and it was pretty much predicted that she will win not to mention how bad they book it afterward with giving shayna the belt so was a wasted match

The Women's Chamber Match could have been great had The Queen of Spades entered the match at Number 5, Then have her eliminate the Whole Field Just in Time for her to Look at Asuka till the countdown ended, Asuka walks out of her pod & then trying & failing to beat Bayzler.
