I always thought the extreme rules match meant they put more equipment under the ring for use I never knew what the difference was between no dq and no hold barred besides the count being removed Street fights are *usually* a fight that starts outside the ring somewhere
@@MrGanjie Nowadays there's not really a difference, but back in the day a No Holds Barred match essentially was a bar fight in the ring. You could use closed fist punches, you could use chokes on people, eye gouges, the works.
They are the same, but they aren’t supposed to be. No Holds Barred is supposed to be a normal match just with more dangerous moves that are normally banned allowed. Street Fights are supposed to be well “actual fights”.
Think of it like this. Extreme rules are supposed to be an ECW type match where more extreme weapons are used ie. kendo sticks, tables, ladders, thumbtacks, etc. no holds barred are anything and everything are legal. So if a move or submission was banned in kayfabe those moves would now be legal to use. A street fight is basically just that. A fight that spills out of the ring and all over and resemble something you’d see on the “streets” but pinfalls and submission are only counted in the ring. When used correctly for a storyline they’re all different but nowadays they’re just basically the same.
Anonymoose I think that’s just a 6 way match. The scramble this guy is on about was at night of champions in 2011 I think, it had people coming in every 5 minutes and pin falls could happen through out the match until the the 30 minute time limit was finished. The persona ho had the title at the end esa the winner. They were really cool but wwe only did them 4 times
Same with Inferno. The matches were very tedious to watch and the outcome was often just someone getting burned on an obviously padded part of the anatomy.
It was a good idea, but it suffered from having a very convoluted rule system and inconsistency with the rules. I think if they brought it back now, considering Impact is booked pretty well these days, it would be a lot better
Anybody that wants a scaffold match is someone who never watched one. They are boring before the actual fall because everyone is being extra careful to not fall.
I only remember watching one worthwhile and it was Rhino vs AJ, and I spent the first time watching it live too worried for their well being to enjoy it. Kill the scaffold match.
I feel like the only way to make those interesting is by making them cinematic, so you can "play" with the width of the scaffold and make them entertaining with some editing trickery
To quote Brian Zane on scaffold matches, "Wow, he punched him! Wow, he punched him again! Will the fun ever start?!" Also, how could you leave out that Tommy Dreamer was goading Sandman with "THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?!"
If they tweaked it just a little bit like they did with War Games it could work (like instead of it of having competitors come in a set intervals have everyone in the ring for the full 20 minutes and whoever gets the last fall when the time runs out wins)
exactily and also Cameron Grimes and Dexter lumis had the best blindfold match ever on NXT just one month after this video aired now thats what i call an amazing coincidence :D
First blood was alright, but for a blood themed match, it was actually the least bloody of them all. I would rather change the rules to, you can only pin your opponent if they are bleeding. I think the outcomes wouldn't be as cheap as many FB matches we had, and having the thrill of near falls would be cool.
@@herecomesdatrain they have done it some times. Brock has had 3 matches with blood at least. I think they just dont want blades being used. I'm okay with blood capsules as long as it something rare. I actually prefer no blood in wrestling, but with some many hardcore matches, and no visual damage, you do start to miss blood a bit.
Fun fact: at TLC 2011 Triple H faced Kevin Nash in a stairway to hell match with a hammer as the prize (tha match wasn't called stairway to hell but it was the same concept)
I kind of think that the reason First Blood matches fell by the wayside wasn't for "the PG era" (I can't even remember any WWE First Blood match happening in the 2000s at all, personally), but because of how easy it is in wrestling to draw blood. I love the point of the idea of a rookie "beating" Brock Lesnar because he got lucky and scratched him enough for blood to draw, but the other side of that is having a match thought-out and worked-out and ready to go, but some basic ass errant bump all of a sudden has you bleeding well before you were supposed to. That one is just damn tricky to bet on for everything going right
They are generally structured differently. More of a hardcore match where you only go after the weapon above the ring of you are really willing to risk it, as opposed to the pole match where it’s almost like a non match because both guys have to pretend to suddenly not be able to climb a turnbuckle. It may actually be better than a ladder match in some circumstances, because you can set up some kind of contraption to punish your opponent without it seeming contrived. I have noticed for as insane as modern ladder matches are, a lot of them do seem to have at least one spot where someone is in the ring by themselves forever, but instead of just climbing the ladder to win they try to make a weird bridge thing with the two ladders being sandwiched between the one in the ring balancing in the ropes to make it “more stable”, and it always takes away something from the match because it looks like whoever does it doesn’t really want to win
Yeah they’re universally terrible and weirdly forgettable besides almost crippling Jim Cornette. Even if it’s done with the WWE cinematic flair, you have to ask yourself why even use a scaffold, AJ Undertaked used a roof
I haven't watched wrestling in a decade or so, but I've always felt that Dumpster Matches were very underused back in the Attitude & Ruthless Aggression eras. It's basically a tag team version of the Casket Match.
The Ultimate Jeopardy match sounds good. It'd be a good device for dealing with chickenshit heels who have minions to save them. Could've used that during Seth Rollins' WWE champion reign.
Know it happened recently. However before the "bone yard match" I can't remember a buried alive match since Kane and Undertaker 2010. Not saying it should be done all the time (like hell in a cell) just more than once in the past 10 years.
Love the Double Jeopardy cage match. Dragon Gate had a version of it that I liked way more where everyone starts off in the ring at once, and the last person to escape got the punishment. It led to a lot more drama with babyfaces wondering if they should leave their friends in peril or dive off the top to save them, and more transparent betrayals. Not sure how many Dragon Gate had, or what they even called it, but it is a gimmick match that definitely sets the WarGame aesthetic bouts apart from one another.
A match I'd to see comeback is the 2 fall triple threat match. Only happen once in WWE that I can think of. Kurt Angle defended his two titles, the European and IC Championships. Wrestlemania 2000 vs. Jericho and Benoit. First fall was for the European title second was for IC title. Could even do a 2 fall fatal four way. For example Reigns vs Jey vs Orton vs McIntyre. First fall for Universal second fall for WWE championship. You could do bunch with this idea.
What about an Ultimate Submission match? It's basically an Iron man match, but submission wins only. Ohh & there should be no DQ's or count out's in that match.
Dragon Gate has done the Ultimate Jeopardy match a few times as their DOA Cage match, most recently the 2020 version at Dangerous Gate, where EVERYONE had "ultimate consequences" forced upon them depending on if they were still stuck in the cage at the end OR if they were not able to leave the cage by a certain point, would love to see more promotions use it effectively too
Boiler Room Brawl can be easily setup. It strikes me as something that would work best with spontaneity, but could be planned out and promoted by a simple challenge promo. "We've had enough matches, let's take this to a place where nobody has to worry about any blood or screams of pain. I'll see you in the boiler room." Scaffolds don't have to be that tall. They could make it look insurmountable and it's actually only a few feet off the ground. lol. I'm partial to Lethal Lockdown, but it's still actively used in Lockdown and Impact is still an active company, so I can't really call for that.
First blood matches use to ruin my perfect record in career mode. I'd beat the holy hell out of my opponent and couldnt bust them open.. Just to have them hit me with one chair shot and leave me bleeding out in the middle of the ring..
I'm not such a fan of prop or theme match types. I like variety but most of these match types significantly hinder the creative opportunities of wrestlers that don't specialize in them and force them to walk step by step through the same predictable spots. I would however like to see the return of the "I quit" match (as long as they just rely on the referee and leave all microphones alone).
What about the 6 pack challenge? (I think it was called that) I loved those ones. When they gave em a 20 min time limit and the last pinfall/submission was the champ at the end. So they would have temp champs and a swerve last min sweep in pin to change the ending.
@@Zombiekilleryamato Thats the one. I used to love those matches. They were so crazy and usually gave a bunch of midcard guys time to shine. I remember one of the wwe games had it as a mode too and it was the one we usually played the most when we got a group of friends together because it was just pure chaos.
no, most of the time it is terrible to follow until the end and then you´ve got no idea what tf happened i recently rewatched wcw and those matches are extremely annoying of you ask me
There are two gimmick matches that I'd bring back. One being the Championship Scramble match, because they were really under-rated as an idea. The other is the ECW Double Jeopardy match, which was essentially a 4 man tournament happening at the same time, where 2 men face each other while 2 other men face each other at the same time, with the winners of those matches then facing each other. Because you could tell a lot of stories in that match type. Does the man who wins their first match first take a break to recoup energy, or do they join in against the person they would rather face? Similarly, does the underdog babyface who finishes their match second still have enough in the tank to win? While the idea is that both matches are No DQ, if they ran it with normal wrestling rules, does the heel in one match get the babyface DQed in the other match since it would technically be interfering?
3 Stages of Hell. We saw it for Gargano v. Cole at Takeover Toronto 2 but it's great for any feud where competitors have traded wins for a while. The gimmicked 2-out-of-3 falls match gives us 10-15 minutes of crazy action from each match type.
Technically, MLW did bring back Boiler Room Brawls & Stairway To Hell with MVP v. Sami Callihan & Bestia 666 v. Jimmy Havoc v. Mance Warner respectively. Also, they technically bring WarGames back to the Mainstream in the mid-2000s
They should do a Beat The Clock Challenge PPV. They announce one half of the brackets, and the other half are all mystery opponents, and they all end up being throwbacks and old rivals. The show has two challenges, one for men and one for women, each being for number one contendership.
Blindfold match?! What are you on? It's telling that the best ever blindfold match (the Jake one you cited) featured arguably the most unforgivable botch, with Jake undermining the gimmicked mask whilst the camera was right in his face, you can't enjoy the match after that (the crowd could though to be fair). Also you are forgetting that gimmick matches do have an element of 'Scorched Earth', once they've been completely disgraced it's hard to bring them back.
I immediately thought of the Championship Scramble match!! Top of the wish list for me. Love the concept, and how many have there been? Like 3? Bring it back!
You forgot to mention Dreamer responded to the caning by saying “thank you sir, may I have another”. Also as much as the caning builds a face I think crowds would just enjoy Roman Reigns in pain if they put him in one.
TNA did one a number of years ago at Sacrifice 2009 between Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, Sting and Mick Foley where Foley put the TNA Title on the line, Sting put his career up, Jarrett put his stake/power in the company up and Angle put up his spot as leader of the Main Event Mafia. They called it an Ultimate Sacrifice match
@@wildfiremicro6877 I haven't seen the match in a while, but I remember it being a pretty fun four-way match. The only thing I hated was that the title could only change hands if Foley was pinned. It didn't really make any sense to pin anyone but Foley or Jarrett in the match.
As an added note about first blood matches, I always felt those matches were pretty PG since the match ends at the first sign of blood which usually amounted to small self inflicted cut on the forehead or arm.
As a non-native speaker of English, these videos often leave me wondering if a word's been mispronounced or if they're just pronounced differently in the UK. For instance, I've always said 'quotient' with a 'sh' sound in the middle, but here it was said with a regular 't.' Is that also common?
What I want to see is electrified ropes/cage matches. Seems like it's something relatively easy to fake while still looking impressive and destructive.
if i were making the rules for a promotion (or as i did in wrestling games in the past) any 3 person match would be the ecw type 3 way dance, where there has to be two people eliminated to win. i'd also make tag team matches (especially for the title) so you have to eliminate both members of a team... or if it's a tag team cage match, both members have to escape to win. 1 on 1 championship matches would be 2 out of 3 falls, or 3 stages of hell... or possibly an ironman match. and there would never be a scaffold match.. boring AND dangerous.
I feel like it'd be weird to have one that doesn't feature the Undertaker though. So his match vs AJ Styles at last years WrestleMania is probably the last we'll ever see.
@@ParadiseDB7 it could work with the fiend though he perfected kanes signature match type too so why not the undertakers? I can definitely see a Fiend vs. whoknows Buried alive match in the future :D
@@cathycatsville67 to a point sure, but do you remember what the last Inferno match was before recently? It was Kane vs Bray Wyatt, so a sort of passing of the (quite literal) torch. Buried Alive we've never seen Bray Wyatt do before, so I think it's less likely. I guess it's still possible though, not like the Fiend has been doing much as of late though. He generally tends to only revisit his "past life" so-to-speak.
2:54 The Blind fold match would have fit perfectly for the Seth Rollins vs Rey Mysterio match back in 2020 at Extreme Rules instead of that Eye for an Eye match
Bring back the old steel cage matches where the only way to escape was over the top of the cage. None of this pins and submissions count nonsense and no exiting through the door either
