I was actually chatting about Trinity the other week there, seeing how she was one of the few women who could actually do a shooting star press in the mid 2000's, she fucking ruled. But of course this was WWE during the mid 2000's so they did fuck all with her.
She was a really nice person too. When she was in TNA I wound up getting to spend some time with her through mutual friends. She was fun and down to earth.
@matt allen dude ppl talk to and hangout with pro wrestlers all the time. Eddie Kingston is good friends with my uncle and I've hangout with Aj Lee a few times when we were kids, it's really not crazy when you grow up in the same area as them and share a few common interests.
I remember watching him in the uk and they made a massive deal over him being signed by wwe. He gets there’s and goes through development and they give him this 🤦🏻♂️ such a waste of talent
I actually enjoyed DJ Gabriel initially when they paired him with Alica Fox, it was just a shame they treated him like a budget Alex Wright instead of utilizing the huge potential he had.
Oh yeah! I remember the Dudebusters v Hawkins and Archer. Was about the time I started regularly watching WWE. Not why I was watching, just remember that and the end of WWECW into NXT game show was about when I started.
I met DJ Gabriel last night. He’s working in a bar in Shoreditch. Genuinely the nicest guy in the world. Chatted to me and my date about some of his wrestling days, what it’s like to receive the Angle Slam, and posed for a couple of photos with us. Top bloke and seems fine that the wrestling career didn’t quite work out.
Fun thing about Ricky Ortiz, when he first debuted on ECW he was Ricky Atlas but they made him change his name because Tony Atlas was also on ECW at the time and WWE thought it would be too confusing to the fan base
Elijah Burke was so amazing really underrated but he was a bit primadona Cm Punk called it in one of his interview also Matt Striker said he was hard to work it
In a era that saw Trish and Lita retire, you’d think they’d put a talent like Trinity in the women’s division … but mid-2000s was a strange time for the divas. Always somewhat surprised Kelly Kelly, and I like her, but surprised she outlasted that early WWECW divas roster
I remember most of these people actually. I remember Ricky Ortiz on some reality show where competitors were being chased by people in suits because he was on one episode.
Ricky Ortiz (Rich Young) is a good friend of my uncle the fact he only spent 6 months in wrestling before getting into ovw was a pretty wild feat to be fair.
The best part of WWECW is Miz/Morrison. The Dirt Sheet, was an all time favourite program. Winning tag team championships even not in SD or RAW brands. Making ECW relevant given the limited talents in the brand.
Morrison's intros were pretty great. In fact, one of them was like "If I had a dime for every time (something, I forget what, whether it was how many times he got beaten up or how many times he didn't look great or whatever), I would have zero dimes." Which, of course, would go on to be used by Enzo Amore.
Side note.....Lena Yada is the wife of David Draiman, frontman for the metal band Disturbed.....went from down for the 3 count, to Down with the Sickness
Trinity suffered from being in the Diva era. Surprised Ortiz didn't win at least a title, just for having been a member of XFL. Though that could also have been the reason he was jobbed out, with how the original XFL went, Vince didn't want to be reminded. lol. I remember Terkay. I thought him and Burke were a great combo and could have gone far, at least before I saw the writing on the wall of Burke getting his push. Spears has gone through quite a few rebrandings. He was STAN, Gavin Spears, Tye Dillinger, and now Shawn Spears.
I remember most of them except for those two women at number 9 and 7. I wasn't a weekly viewer, missing out for some weeks of WWE's version of ECW, so that's probably the case.
I only remembered Bam Neely, because he's one of those "so forgettable, you'll see him everywhere" Superstars, Trinity, Terkay (being part of one of the worst WWE PPVs ever helps) and Ortiz
Savannah, Courtney Taylor and Lauren Mayhew were also forgotten divas of the ecw/wwe that were part of some fcw matches even savannah was the queen of fcw a wierd thing that was kind of a women's title LOL
A lot of those FCW era guys obviously would be solid upper babyfaces in the territorial days before national TV, but by the late 2000s were doomed without better direction
DJ Gabriel was pretty awesome until he got squashed by Mark Henry and never heard from again. His European Uppercut from the 2nd rope was probably the reason being.
I vaguely remember Ricky Ortiz. And I did not know he married Layla, props to him for that. Trinity was wasted potential I think. She could have been a lot more.
There are a few surprises on this list but I do fondly remember Lena Yada and wish she had a lengthier wrestling career. All things considered she is living a good life and is a mother now as far as I know.
With the news coming out that Vince and Bruce are in control of the new NXT, I have a feeling we're going to see a video something similar to this. What a shame.
I hate how they've changed their videos from "May not remember" to "YOU DON'T REMEMBER" I knew 7 of these mainly because I started watching wwe fully back then but it feels like an insult of intelligence saying we don't remember them. Also to me the name just falls in line with so many other channels doing the same thing and the thumbnails too. I get it's what catches the eye and all that but it makes me less likely to watch them
Didn't help much. But the big Afro, the floral sleeve in the era of tribal, he did have a unique look for the time. And the Rally Towel was sometimes that they could sell. He might have been a bigger success other time other place.
