I live in the States and hence thousands of miles away from SUS. Wish I lived in your neighborhood. Nothing like your ab fab shop near me. . . . actually it's probably better for my well being that I don't.
Flowery shirt excited! Made me laugh. Enjoyed this video very much as I am considering buying a concert. Great presence, as well extremely talented, and kept my attention the whole way through. I cannot thank you enough. Going to tune to mandolin. After watching-- love your Big Island, adore cedar--the sound, the look, this is the one for me.
I was sure the KoAloha would be my favorite. The look is stunning and their quality is always top of the heap. That being said the Millar is the one who’s sound truly impressed me. To look at it I was reminded of a Mainland Uke. Very nice indeed! Thanks again for the review, Alex. I always look forward to them. Wes
I bought a new Islander MSC-4 concert during Covid lockdown and it took a very long time for the top to open up and sound balanced and clear, open. Early in 2023 i bought a lightly used Pono MCD concert model. I love Pono ukuleles. This Pono concert is almost equal to my Pono tenor ukulele and sounds excellent playing campanella. Nice video.
Thanks Alex. Liked the deep tones of the L.Luthier. The Koaloha was next level sound wise. For me, you put them in order of sound quality. Have a great week.
I really appreciate your video comparisons of various ukuleles. You give such a thorough run through of each ukulele and I rely on your actual playing test of each. I really liked the sound of that KoAloha KCM ukulele. Concert ukuleles are my favorites because their size suits me the best and most comfortable to play. After watching your video I just might get one of those KoAloha ukes.
Hi Alex, you timed this video well didn't you?! Pay day this week for many of us. Haha! Fab compilation video as always. Love the Barnes and Mullins BMUK10C and the Pono and of course the KoAloha! You can't not love a KoAloha. Once again, thanks! P.s. Love the shirt too!
Thanks for the concert round-up! As much as I want to love the tenor, the concert is a way better size for me. Now trying to decide whether it’s the Big Island or the KoAloha that goes on the wishlist…
Alex, Again, another well produced review. I really like the warmth of the Koaloha. Looks like it has Worth strings on it, or similar . And the Big Island is also very nice. Thanks again, jeff
Hello, I wanted to thank you for your videos. I have had my ukulele for over 2 years and wanted to upgrade to something better and watched many many reviews around. I went with the Ohana solid koa in concert size after watching your review on that instrument. Your reviews are informative and it is always a pleasure to hear you play. So again thank you! I cannot wait to play on my new uke. :)
Hi Alex, This was another great video. My favorite overall was the Islander for its articulate sound and 38mm nut width with wide string spacing. I also know how much better Islanders sound with fluorocarbon strings. I own a MAC-4 that I repaired and customized. My favorite sound wise was the Koaloha. I personally think the Concert size body has the best balance of "boominess" and articulation of the Koaloha models that use the unibrace. The high notes in the Soprano models can sound a little too plinky for my taste and the tenors Cross the line of too much "boominess" vs articulation for my style of playing and sound preference. I also personally think Mango compliments the Koaloha unibrace system better than Koa. These are just my subjective thoughts based on my personal preferences.🙂
Thanks - great video. I think I've got to the stage where I'm saving up for something high end in concert size, so it was nice to see the range available at different price points. The decision *might* be between the Ko'Aloha and Uli-C (or incoming purple-stained variation). I love the sound of the Millar too, but I already own two Millars...
Love all your stuff Alex, except I don’t watch soprano stuff. You are a good salesman! Have bought ukes you sell, not sure if from you. Keep loaning stuff to Baz, I trust his opinion!
I got my first concert ukulele in Hawaii from HUG Ukulele. Have you ever ordered ukes from this small Hawaiian brand? Im pretty impressed at mine for the price
We saw them at NAMM. I could be wrong but I remember they were far east made instruments sold directly in Hawaii by a Hawaiian company... They were nice people, the ukes were just quite similar to brands we already stock.
From my listening the L Luthier was sound wise the closest to the Koaloha. The “H” brands really do stand out in their sound in comparison to the other brands. If LL can imitate them that is a real coup.
Some lovely stuff😍. I own a Pono TT8, the one thing I’d criticise Pono for is the branding labels inside the instruments. Naff in the extreme! Nothing more than peel & stick glossy sticker🤨, at that price point I think the industry & public expect a non-gloss, paper label. Their labels remind me of price labels in a ‘dollar store’ 🤨. The build & tone are well up to expectation though😍👍
