Perfect timing!...just framed up a shed the EXACT same 12' x 10' dimensions and roof design in mind and needed a visual to confirm my thoughts on how to do it was indeed a good plan. Great job on the video and thanx for the time & effort it took to share your project with us. 👍
*Exactly* what I was looking for -- how to put a roof onto a shed that you designed yourself. Love that you used a hand saw, a hatchet, and a plane. Nice hat :D
Great video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - *WoodBlueprints. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate at very last got astronomical success with it.?
Building my shed now and have found your videos fun to watch! I found several good pointers helpful so far. You did a great job- super strong building!
Ever think of buying a spokeshaven? Hand plane, chisel and hatchet all rolled in to a two hand tool! I know it's an old world tool, most people may not know what I'm talking about, not often used, but in situations like this, when you need to rough plane or de-bark and true, felled trees! Also nice work, I couldn't tell if it was California, Hawaii or Florida, with the palm trees, over engineered for sure. More expensive, especially if building now (6-2021), but will be sturdy for the long haul and for the expected cliche... Get what you pay for and or in this case, also what you put into it! I never thought of using a Japanese saw for the birds mouth! I own a couple, use them often, but never clicked in my head! Perhaps a door jamb saw. Better yet finally a use and excuse for me to use and own an oscillating saw, never have taken to mine, I know they are useful, guess just stuck in in my ways! I like Japanese or fan saw, as I've heard them be called in the West. I lived in Japan for nearly a decade, I have used them for years. Always razor sharp and easier on the hand if you are making smaller cuts, thin pieces especially with furniture making! take care of them or new.
Love the build. I just finished my 12 x 16 shed / workshop. It's awesome but now I am working with the electrician and he noted I don't have ceiling joists going from wall to wall (I have a lean-to like yours), do I need ceiling joists?
I've always tried to figure out how to build a shed for my kids. I tried several plans but always got stuck along the way. I'm glad I found this Ryan's shed plans [ Go Here >>> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. It has made the work become as easy and simple as I never thought it will be. Thank you Ryan!?

Looks real good. Nice job! I’m guessing it’s already done and you’re catching us up. Looks like the hard part is done (as long as you don’t fall off putting the sheathing on).
Fantastic series of videos! Will you be making a video of installing the roof? Will this be finished inside and if so will the roof be vented? I'm about to build a similar shed which will become a guest room so I'm looking for info on venting shed roofs.
I just finished putting on an unvented roof that uses layers of OSB, rigid foam, OSB. I plan on doing a mix of insulation above and under the roof. I'm writing the article now and will cut and put out that video next week. Your roof design will ultimately be determined by your climate zone. I came across something that shows a combination of rigid foam on top with venting. Hope it helps. Check out page 19 of this www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2015/02/f19/ba_webinar_2-12-15_lstiburek.pdf
I've been documenting the build on our website. www.adventuresindiy.com/ There are graphics and at the end of each article is there list of materials I used. Hope it helps.
I built a shed with these plans from Ryan [ Details Here?> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ] . The instructions were clear and easy to implement. Even a novice can be able to build fast using this plan. I'm happy I bought the plan. It also saved me much cost.
Test rafter reminds me of a time when a couple of guys and I were building a garage and the guy kept using the next cut piece of rafter as the template and by the time he was done cutting them all the cuts slowly got smaller and smaller. Had to recut most of them. Doh!
Your shed looks great! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I built an 8x10 shed for my kids in my backyard earlier this year using plans I got from *WoodBlueprints. Com* Clear directions and an accurate materials list...It was great for a novice builder like myself!
Solid work man! Can I get away with using 2x6s for roof rafters? They will span 12ft, with an over hang on the front and back of 3ft. So 18ft long 2x6s. The roof is just plastic corrugated stuff. No snow load, I'm in Hawaii. The rafters will be sitting on two 2x8s resting on trees I cut for poles. (Kind of pergola style but with a roof). It's for my outdoor kitchen. I'm broke and trying to drop out of the system / live off grid. Long story short, will 2x6s for rafters with 2x3s for perlins sag ? I used 2x4s for my tiny house roof and definitely made a mistake. It's holding but you can see the sag already.
I'M CURIOUS HOW LONG THE RAFTERS WERE ON YOUR LITTLE HOUSE AND IF THEY WERE 16 OR 24 INCH ON CENTER. I'M BUILDING A 12 WIDE USING 2X4 FOR RAFTERS WHICH I WAS TOLD WILL BE SUFFICIENT.
interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out backyard storage sheds plans try *WoodBlueprints. Com* Ive heard some decent things about it and my colleague got cool success with it.
I’m planning a 10x12 with a single slope roof and was thinking 2x4 trusses along the 10’ direction. I’m in illinois so we definitely get snow but it’s also under a big oak tree. Thoughts?
Always write pattern on one when cutting rafters ! If you keep using the previous one ,it will start cheating carpenters pencil thickness each time ,and can’t start cheating And be off when you sheet it ! Nice job ,
I assume you live in a warm climate by all the palm trees. ;-) For folks building this in a cold(snow load) climate the fly rafters should be tied into the previous rafter to help share the load. I can tell this is being built by a woodworker not a carpenter. You should wind up with a pretty solid structure when your all done.
Thanks for bringing that up. I was going to connect them across a couple of rafters but realized there wouldn't really be any load on them since we don't get snow in Vegas.
