And we're here. The last episode for 1998. Pretty interesting set of games, but honestly, I'm ready for 1999, and curious what we might get to see there. :)

Another cool thing about Die By the Sword was the options for big head mode and low gravity. That meant you could fill a room with big, bouncing heads! A good time for everyone ^^

Delta Force was the true first Call of Duty. It was one of the games that took over my Lan parties, and all we basically did was camp all over the huge maps trying to snipe each other. So it was just a game of who could find the little pixels that didn't fit the scenery first. So much fun.

@@OldAndNewVideoGames Dude that sucks! The game was so clunky I never made it to the end, but we'd sit for hours laughing like crazy trying to kill each other on those tiny duel maps, trying not to fall into the lava etc. Pure comedy gold! We played a Quake MOD too named "Horror Quake". It was a simple map, a giant old house with loads of pitch black corners, shadows, dark rooms etc. Anyways, one guy would spawn as the "victim" and the other as the "axe murderer", and the victim had to make it to the exit - without a weapon - while being stalked by the axe murderer. I swear we used to fall out of the chair sometimes, in pure terror, as you creeped over to check a doorway and see your mate running at you with an axe! :D Great times.

Anyone remember the early "Ghost Recon" games? Tactical FPS games like Tom Clanys "Rogue Spear" etc, but with multiple ways to approach the missions and the squad members you recruited gained XP and levelled up and got new skills if you kept them alive. Even if I was totally uninterested in tactical shooters or war games back then, even I heard of Delta Force being played and appreciated by people. I'm quite curious about the story in Esoteria and will risk getting lost in there for a bit. :D Literally getting lost. Die by the Sword sounds like what I've always wanted RPG fights to be like. And, if I understand correctly, it's totally possible to make your character dance. :D Which is also what I've always wanted RPG fights to be like. :P

I somehow missed Vigilance back in the day? I’ll have to find a copy. Hay! You used the correct word “magazine” & not the usual incorrect word “clip.” Clip & magazine are not synonyms but most people use clip when they mean magazine. Delta Force is excellent (in spite of the escort missions) for it’s time & whilst it is looking a bit dated now it is still fun. Asghan is fun & definitely one for fantasy fans. It is a little shallow but it is very much swards & sorcery x Tomb Raider. Never played Tiger’s Bane. Not surprising really as I would look down my nose at 2D games back then but I loved Harrier Attack on the Spectrum & other Jet Strike clones in the 8bit days & I can appreciate them now. Do I get to fly a Mi-28? Future Cop is a mech game I actually enjoy. It’s very much a style of game I enjoy, like Expendable & Apocalypse & is more fun to me than first person, overly technical mech games. Xenocracy looks great? One to look up? I really hate to “errm, actually” you but the background temperature of the universe is 2.7 Kelvin. In fact George Smoot‘s “wrinkles in time,” the echoes of the big bang, raise the temperature to 3.5 Kelvin as they pass by. Even though there’s no matter as such in deep space there is the cosmic background radiation. I mean matter is just condensed radiation so there isn’t actually a true separation of the 2 but let’s not complicate this. Sorry. Esoterica really hasn’t aged well visually has it? Sounds, from what you’ve said, like it still worth playing though? The MIDI sound track was dated even in ‘98 but still has a certain charm to it. Grand Prix Legends is a great sim for it’s time, if you’re in to driving sims. I love the old cars but I’m not one for sims myself. Die by the Sward is next to me right now. If like Elder Scrolls like games you may think it shallow as a game but the combat is satisfying. It’s a fun way to work your aggression out. Definitely one to play. What a great series! Thank you. It really was a great & hugely influential year for gaming. I have several retro graphics cards from the era that were big steps forward in the technology & modern games evolved with them, leading to the tech & games we have now, as far removed as they may feel? Being severely dyslexic (I scored 3.6 out of 5 on the dyslexic score scale) I think the words you were spelling out were “sandwich,” “buttress” & “large scale commodities fraud” weren’t they? The worst part is, I can make that joke but non-dyslexics can’t. 😂
@OldAndNewVideoGames
@OldAndNewVideoGames Месяц назад
Seriously? Clip? I usually say mag. As they were called mags here too. Delta Force is great, but it's still one of those games that I sucked at. xD Oh, definitely! Future Cop is my type of a mech game too. Third person and action packed. Those first person while immersive, are not something I ever really got into. I mean, noone knew Battletech here back then, at least noone I knew, and I don't care much for big robots other than in Robot Jox and Robotix. Both are excellent. Don't worry about correcting me about the temperature. I actually appreciate it if I'm incorrect, as I get to learn something that would hopefully prevent me from making the same mistake twice. I don't take it personally, and definitely are not offended. :) All I know what to do in sims, is hug the track sides. So, they're not great fun for me. I'm all Horizon, and not at all Motorsport. I've used it today once already, but it best describes my preferences. :) Definitely large scale commodities fraud was there somewhere mixed in between other crimes I naturally did not commit. ;) Btw. I'm aiming with the next Obscure DOS Supplemental for tomorrow for you (you as in Patreon/YT Members), so hopefully I'll manage to release it. It should be an interesting selection too. We'll see though.

Never liked Windows for gaming. DOS was just faster! Far less overhead, windows was a resource hog eating up your meagre 16MB EDO RAM. Dos Quake ran FAR quicker than Winquake, same with Tombraider, Carmageddon etc. But alas, I finally had to install Windows 95 so we could play Red Alert across a network, and that was when I first tried Windows 95 Direct X games. And they were Diablo demo and a rare little game called "Firefight" similar to Jungle Strike and Desert Strike etc. 16 bit colour accelerated by DX, and both games ran fine, so I decided to keep W95 installed after all and upgraded to 32MB. Still dropped into DOS for all games that supported it, for a few years, but as PC's got faster and RAM no longer became problem, Windows became essential and DOS went the way of the dinosaurs.
