NOTE: Watch the WHOLE vid before commenting... I am NOT shutting down this channel or jumping off a cliff. It's just the the official EzeeLinux page is gone and the project with it. I will post more Linux stuff in the future, just not quite as often. Thanks for all of your kind words! :)
Sorry to see it go, and I do think you did help where you did. I'll still keep watching as long as you keep posting! Thanks for all the years of EzeeLinux
I was newly retired, had been working as a Microsoft systems engineer. Needed something to occupy me and I found your channel. You inspired me to dump windows and move to Linux. Your vids on YT were inspirational to me and answered many of my questions in a calm and friendly manner. I have stuck with Linux and use it daily. So thank you for all your help and assistance over the years, it was really appreciated.
Thanks Joe for everything you've done over the years! Your videos were the reason I switched to Linux seven years ago and I have never looked back. And thanks for introducing me to my new favourite word - enshittification really is le mot juste!
Sorry to see you go! Guess I need to download all the Linux videos as a backup archive for myself and my kids. Sorry to see you go. I've enjoyed your clips on Linux and terminal in particular! Thanks Joe! Best regards, Ruud
Thanks for the kind words ! don't think the channel is going away anytime soon and I DO plan on posting more Linux content when there's something new to talk about. It's not like I'm going completely away... It's just EzeeLinux, not Joe!
Apologies Joe, keys were buzzing when halfway your clip... Especially when you're telling about bashing and flaming on this social media area. Relatable. Glad you've clarified it during the video. Anyway, hope to see a lot more of your material here.
So sad to see the project go. I don't know if you remember my name, but I've left a few comments over the years. I've probably said this before, but you were instrumental in helping me move to Linux full time. I'll always be grateful for that. I truly wish I could have the same effect on somebody else's life you've had on mine. Thanks again, I'll still be here to see what else you post. Signing off from my laptop running Fedora!
That's pretty sad. You helped me as a beginner a lot and I'm sorry to see your project fizzle out. I don't blame you of course. Seems like only yesterday somebody pressed the toilet paper button and then people across the world decided to stop trying to be good. But I don't think it'll be that way forever, no matter how hard certain very small groups try to screw things up. The pendulum will swing back and it will hit hard when it does. I look forward to seeing EzeeLinux come back on that day. :)
a sad day has come☹️ thsnk you for all you have done for the community. I have used and learned from your scripts... I still use the backup ones ... saved my butt a couple of times.
Hello Joe, sorry to hear your content viewing figures are on the wain prompting you to close your Easee Linux website and that you will be posting your Linux content less frequently in the future here on RU-vid, although you do have a wealth of extremely helpful information in you back catalogue of videos which I’m sure will help all of the new people deciding to make the transition. When I myself was looking to make the transition back in 2019 I decided to look for content on RU-vid for some pointers and I almost gave up because the videos I initially found were from Americans who spoke ten to the dozen which I found hard to follow and extremely confusing, but then I happened upon your channel with your far more laid-back approach and superb teaching ability so with your help I decided to proceed and install it then later I was finally able to take in what all of the others were talking about. So once again I thank you for all of your previous Linux content that helped me immensely starting out and for the thanks I’ve received from all of my family members who I transitioned to Linux soon after, plus all of your “shooting the breeze” Linux content since then which I’ve found immensely interesting and entertaining, so I will await your next even though it might take awhile.
While I never really got around to using Ezee Linux I still thank you for doing it. I truly believe it served its purpose in expanding the footprint of the OS. Also I agree with you that email clients are dead.
You were one of the first RU-vidrs I found when I came to Linux. I came and went and finally as of June 2024 decided to stay. Your videos helped me a lot in the past. I currently run FerenOS on my HP GAMESTATION PC and DELL Latitude E7450. I love Linux and you helped me on that journey. You, Chris Were and many others. Yeah...I avoid Ubuntu too. So glad Linux Mint and FerenOS exist. Regarding GNOME, I never liked how locked down it was....KDE for me is the best DE for customization and ease of use. It's a lot more stable than in the past few decades I've been running Linux back and forth. Keep up the great work. I wish you the best.
Ubuntu right? What the crap are you even talking about? Linux Mint allows you to make use of all the benefits of using Ubuntu which involves Deb installation and apt methods and the same ppas that are available being an ubuntu-based distribution but without canonical's want to be Microsoft Claus in it. That is exactly the mission that Clem and his development team involving Linux Mint have been successful in for easily more than 13 years now
Thanks Joe!!! Really enjoyed the trip to the past. Good luck in the future. I can't wait for the next Linux Video. I suspect you will have plenty of opinions on future Corporate-Shenanigans screwing-over Linux and FOSS. About the email stuff... I gave up on email clients almost 2 decades ago. I got tired of having to port-over my emails from one server to the next when either I changed ISPs or email servers got too expensive. In the mid-2000's, Google offered free Domain Services for small businesses. So, I setup a Internet domain and Google served as my free email-server. That is until... 2023! Google started charging for these Domain Services by email account. I'm too lazy to do anything about it now. I'll continue to pay for it. It's still far cheaper to pay Google vs trying to setup my own Cloud-Services. CHEERS!!! :)
Great work introducing Linux to not-so-technical people (like me ;-) ). The fact that EezeeLinux project lost momentum might be a sign of something positive. Namely that Linux indeed is did become easy. And if you think about it - today you just have to plug in a bootable USB or insert a DVD and all the installation process is as straightforward as in Windows. And everything works out of the box most of the time.
Sigh...I just saw this video. I was sad, but there is nothing so consistent as change. Still watch and enjoy the audiophile videos. Take care Joe from a fan across the James. --jim
It's been a long strange journey here in the Linux world. I remember people getting slammed for not reading the manual first, and going to chat groups to look for answers. Albeit the Linux community has gotten better and less hostile toward each other. See you in the near future.
Dear Joe, thank you for all your efforts and dedications. I’ve followed many of your tutorials and I hope the channel will be up. I’m just a random guy from Italy with interest in Linux
EzeeLinux was a very cool project, it's always great with things like this when people with experience do what they can to explain their field of interest to the "normies" (although I don't really appreciate calling people "normal" or "weird" or whatever, it's just to make the point) or rather to the people who don't have any experience (or at least not as much experience) in a comprehensible format to kind of make the bridge between the "experts" and those who aren't. I find that in a lot of ways social media can end up being used for bad things, but I find it great to see people share what they know well about in an informative and constructive manner, especially when it's about topics that aren't covered in the mainstream media (or at least not very frequently).
I appreciate your past help. While I have "moved on" to arch and your ubuntu/mint content isn't really so pertinent it still has always been helpful and humorous at times..
Great to hear you will do more videos. They are always on the top of my playlist. I will need to update my server as well, so I'm very much looking forward to your experience.
People do not read technical books targeted to the general public to the extent they used to. I was able to maintain a career in programming by studying books that I bought from MicroCenter computer store. They got rid of their book section about ten years ago.
I've always liked your Linux content and many of your scripts served as great launching pads for my own projects. I liked the Ezee -Talk site when it was active. I enjoyed exchanging ideas, getting help on things, and providing help. Even if you post something just once in a blue moon, I'll look forward to it. Good luck in all of your future endeavors.
Thanks for everything, Joe. I started using Linux back in 2000 and never stopped. I ended up with Manjaro which runs equally well on PC and Raspberry Pi, and MX Linux, a nice place to start for those who are looking for Windows alternatives. Manjaro is a rolling release based on ARCH and MX is based on Debian. I run both with the KDE Plasma desktop. MX is ready to go out of the box with this desktop, but Manjaro requires a little configuration. Our freedoms have never been 'FREE'. But Linux has been 'FREE' throughout the entire WORLD (God's, pop 8+ billion) dating back to 1991. And, if it's 'FREE', it's definitely good enough for China, South Korea, nearby Penn Manor School District, and even me! 😎 (Kinda like the Metric system adopted by 192 of the 195 countries in the WORLD today). 😎
I still use Thunderbird for my Comcast and Gmail. Comcast is set up as POP and Gmail as IMAP. The reason for staying with Thunderbird is that it is nice to have some things stored and backed up locally for security reasons. Of course, all is irrelevant when Comcast is down for hours at a time.
@@EzeeLinux The worst was when it was down for 6 hours. Of course, there was no indication of this when the bill came at the end of the month. My Comcast account was a lot worse than Gmail for spam. However, Google took it upon themselves to block three of my messages to 80+ recipients within a period of one week. So much for artificial intelligence. Over the years, I learned a lot from your EzeeLinux bash scripts. I modified many for other requirements. Best of luck. -ron
Thank you for your Linux stuff over the years, and I look forward to what you choose to share in future. As regards email hosting, I think a lot of ISPs are moving away from this, and my own (in Australia) has handed its email business to a specialist provider who will begin charging a fee for their service after an introductory period. Anyway, my best wishes to you.
I love gnome for security polished and simplicity. Joe I hope you back, we were missing you so much. You are amazing Linux guy. Thank you for sharing your story!
Hey Joe, just wanted to give you a big hello, and good to see you. I've always enjoyed your Linux content, and you've been one of the main ones who has introduced me into a lot of the things I've learned in Linux going forward. I will probably switching this iMac to Linux once Apple drops support for macOS on it. Just tying up a few loose ends before the upgrade so everything works as best as possible. Have a great day and hope to see more content from you soon! :)
@@RuudKuin Ubuntu runs fine as does Mint. This iMac is a quad core i5 SkyLake with 32 GB RAM 2 GB AMD GPU 2 TB storage, it's more of an audio issue. I will probably need a USB sound card as Linux has issues with the IMac's built in audio, it doesn't; work reliably and some audio plays some doesn't. Bluetooth is also a fix but I think the USB sound card will be better so there isn't any latency.
Hey Joe, yes you were the motivating force for my permanent move to Linux. For a number of years I was on and off Linux, but following your work and end-of-life of MS Windows 7, I made the shift permanent. @EzeeLinux, since your e-mail for ezeelinux has been shut down, do you have different e-mail or point of contact?
