There is a huge difference from the very cheap 8x8 pixel thermal cameras, to the 32x32 and up to the 160x120++. The price seems to quadruple with the pixel count. In this video I am testing the HTi HT02D Thermal camera that I was able to get at 100$ on offer. This is not a paid/non-paid advertisement, my own money, test and conclusion.
Best bet to find these at a decent price is to run through ebay and send off a lot of "make offer" of 100$ on the 150-200$ auctions. But is it worth it? Lets find out!

I just grabbed the HT-301 and it's pretty impressive.

What could you get that at? Seems to be around 750$, but does also have a resolution ~90 times better than the HT-02D :)

@@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk Was on sale at Amazon for $650. A week earlier and it was even cheaper but I missed it.

12:21 the door handle looks polished. You've measured the temperature of reflection not the handle temperature. The same for the coil before.
@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk
@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk 4 года назад
Makes sense for the handle to reflect the air heat, but are you suggesting that the induction heater coil is not 125 degree Celsius hot? I the personally invite you to come touch it ;)
@pahom2
@pahom2 4 года назад
@@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk may be hotter. Mirrors and polished surfaces have very low emissivity. Try to point it on a mirror to understand what I mean. You will see yourself and will measure your face temperature not the mirror temperature.

Yo do know that thermal does not work through glass windows. At best it will show your heat signature bouncing off the window, and at times you get nothing. Just making sure in case you were not aware of that.

Thanks for reminding me, slipped my mind while recording :)

I think, best that could happen is the glass having low reflectivity in IR therefore showing the temperature of the glass surface.

For finding out thermal distribution, it is worth it.

It helped me locate the hottest parts in a camera. I thought it would be the CPU, but it was actually the optics that got hot and shut down the camera.

Make sure to use some kind of shroud around the screen to not reveal yourself and protect the thermal lens with some kind of material that still makes IR pass through.

I'm intrigued by the mention of "export restrictions on thermal cameras".... based on my own understanding of export restrictions on encryption software.... I'm assuming this just means "export restrictions FROM THE USA" can anybody clarify?
@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk
@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk 4 года назад
I think for the most cases it would be outside USA or allied countries. Allies can buy it, but not sell it to others after wards.
@voltsoftruthBSbuster
@voltsoftruthBSbuster 3 года назад
Its illegal to export any thermal device that has a refresh rate over 9 hertz out side of United States. I have a few thermal scopes with 50 hertz capability, but if I was to try sending them to friends out side of US it would be confiscated by customs and I might face criminal charges.

how far this "GUN" will detect the heat? will it go like 100 Meters?
@KaizerPowerElectronicsDk

It depends on the size of the hot object. At 100 m distance it will have to be very large. A car might be too small.

I do not quite agree. Compared to a infrared single point thermometer, this will get the job done 1024 times faster and visualize it. I use it regularly on a hobby basis, where any other more expensive thermal camera would just be a waste of money sitting on the shelf.

definitely not as good as a flir. If i could afford it, i would spend the extra money on a flir E4. There's no point wasting 100 $/£/E on this. Ive seen reviews on flir cameras and the image is much clearer.
