How r you Tim. Good looking stand of timber. Periodic burning the cheapest herbicide there is. Let’s the trees really grow when all other competition is eliminated. Like plowing weeds outa corn. I know u will agree with this note also having run a feller buncher . Clean undergrowth makes life easier for the cutter man! AC

Back in 2011 the Okefenokee Swamp, east of me, burnt 300,000 of it's 400,000 acres. Lightning strike. Took 3 months to burn itself out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

Nice to see people doing this. Fire is an important part of forest management. sadly we dont do to much of that here and that is why we just lost half the town of Jasper. , the normal forest fuel load was. crazy and add to that thousands of acres of pine beetle kill it was just one spark away from disaster, and hey presto off it went with 300 foot flames and a 100 kmh / 60 mph wind , nothing was going to stop that fire until it runs out of fuel. people have been warning for around 20 years that something bad was coming and sure enough nature will solve it in the end, , Active fuel load management is vital you guys are doing a good job. On a side note I love the way you pronounce the word road, made me smile all the way through. keep up the good work. people need to realize that we have become very good at putting out fire and we are preserving the forests to death,

@@strawwagen Fire is a part of the northern forest, we have become very good at putting them out. also fuel load management is also very important, no one wants to do the work as it costs money, but places like Jasper where the forest was all beetle kill that would could have been cut for fire wood over time reducing the fuel load. .

This video reminds me of my younger years. The UTV's and the blower are wonderful tools that we didn't have. We used to get all the family together, the men and boys would do the work, the mamas and girls would come and help. Everyone would use the iron tooth rake to spread fire and keep firebreaks clear. Great memories. My Dad always wore overalls too! Thanks for sharing!!

Yeah right and their forest department ever admitt they were at fault for all the destruction caused by the fires? Trump pointed that out so no matter how true it is, they won't admit it. Which is sad. Because its a well known fact, forest land needs to be maintained in climates such as there's. Without it, theh burn like they did. And the left LOVE stuff like that! Which is even more sad! Its called forest management, which they don't do. They get all kinds of money for the forests but don't do anything to better them.

Keeping your own timber burned is great insurance in case your neighbors or adjoining landowners fires jump to yours. Then if it does jump, less chance of damages, if the fuel or undergrowth is very low. AC

Reminds me of my Grandad burning on our farm when I was growing up. I remember one time the wind switched on him. The fire got away, jumped the road and was going across the neighbors field. I ran about 1/2 mile to the house and told my Grammy to call the fire department. She said where is your Grandad? I told her last time I seen him he was chasing the fire with a rake!

that's interesting. I would be nervous burning 5 acres let alone 50. I would be afraid the fire would climb the trees and get into the treetops and take off that way. I guess that is why you keep after it over the years so you don't have that kind of fuel down low. really cool stuff to watch.

Just about everyone used to prescribe burn their forestland in the southeast. It is getting less common now due to the liability caused by the smoke. I know of a large landowner in a neighboring county that lost a multi-million dollar lawsuit because some wrecked and blamed it on the smoke. Most of the large forest companies don't even burn anymore for that reason. If you want to see a interesting method of burning look at the ping pong ball method that they use from helicopters. That is neat. They are filled with a chemical and they have a machine that injects the balls with another chemical. They are dropped from the helicopter and a chemical reaction causes the balls to ignite. They are dropped on a grid pattern. You can light up thousands of acres in a day that way.

Stay safe rx fire is still dangerous although it's more controlled there is definitely still a risk. The south east specifically is a fire adapted landscape meaning the fuels require fire pine trees are very resistant to fire expecaly lower intensity fire like a rx fire. How hard is it to pull the permit without having holding resources?

Tim, I don't think that you know how educational tjis video is. So many people have no idea how beneficial and necessary Prescribed Fire is.. One comment was "Send It To California". Great suggesion but be sure you send the Money to do it..I was a Ranger on a Forest in Idaho for the US Forest Service and our budjet for Prescribed Fire was $400.00 for 300,000 thousand acres. per year. I am not Trump fan but people rediculed him for commenting that Finland Sweeps their Forest. That was Lay Mans term which calls for Fuel Reduction and promotes Forest Growth. He was right on.CALL Your Congress Man or Woman and get increased money for on-the-ground Fire Management. The Camp Fire in California cost the U S Government close to 1 billion dollars.
