There’s a powerful, emotional video on RU-vid called The Chosen One. It illustrates perfectly as George said: “Star Wars is about the tragedy of Darth Vader”. A young, innocent boy, that gradually had everything taken from him, even when he tried to save people. The harder he held on, the more lives fell through his fingers. For all his life, he was a salve. But in saving his son, Luke, Anakin was finally free. Lived as a slave, tortured as a villain, but died a hero.

To explain why Tyranus being Dooku is so important. The problem isn't that "the enemy leader" gave Jedi an army to lead, but that Dooku is a former Jedi himself. Remember what Palpatine's final narrative before his takeover was? That the Jedi were plotting to overthrow the government. From the PoV of the public, Dooku pretended to cut ties with the Jedi, organized the opposition and created the army for Jedi to lead, then got killed by the Jedi to "cover things up" before their attempt to overthrow the Supreme chancellor.

I think the reason Palpatine feared Quigon is because he was the most unconventional. He followed the living force, listening for its will at all times and never fearing the future or what would happen to him because the force was his truest ally. He wasn't interested in the dogmatic aspects the jedi taught. He wanted to do the right thing despite the rules laid out by the Jedi and their ever growing symbiosis with the senate. He was, for lack of a better term, uncontrollable. He couldn't be manipulated or confounded by sidious, so he was the greatest threat to his plans, especially in regards to anakin. That's my personal interpretation.

Qui was the only true jedi. He noticed how powerful Anakin was, but rest of the council needed midichlorian count to notice. He could teach Anakin to be a real Jedi, and most likely would have eventually notice that Palpy was a dark sider.

Anni and Obi were more like brothers. Anni respected Obi, but they both still had a lot to learn, so he could see more of Obis flaws than he ever could have with Qi, and was eager to push his buttons. Qi had more time to develop his philosophy, and was able to do it detached from raising the messiah, so even if the philosophy was passed down, it would be affected by Chinese whispers

After the Clone Wars, the Clones themselves are left to the wayside. Literally veterans of war that the Empire tosses aside. They were the brave heroes of the Republic, forced to become tools of genocide, used to oppress the people they were supposed to protect then thrown away once they were too old by the Empire they unwittingly helped install. The Clones are the most tragic characters in all of Star Wars.

Imma press X on that. On the surface, that makes sense. But with Ani's upbringing, I honestly would believe he'd still fall to the Darkside. Chances are Shmee wouldn't have been caught by the Tuskens, or at the very least, he'd have stepped in sooner. And maybe THAT would be his catalyst for learning he has a mystical power. Since Ani loves his mother so much, he'd have definitely used his newfound power to save her. And that power would go to his head. He'll do the right thing, for the wrong reasons. I see Anakin's inclusion to the Jedi order as a delay to his inevitable fall

@@insomniacnerd5592 i refer to my above comment, in regards to your point. I'm a firm believer that Ani was inevitably going to fall to the Darkside. Even if his BEST possible Mentor was still around. To me, the Chosen One prophecy meant said chosen one would HAVE to go to the Darkside, even if just a little bit, in order to "bring BALANCE to the force". Meaning he'd need to use aspects of both sides of the Force. Let us recall the Clone Wars series. The Father and his Twins episode. Anakin was taught at that time, that both sides balance each other out, convincing him that he'd need to use the Darkside, to bring said "balance to the force". (assuming Anakin IS fully aware of the prophecy regarding himself, made easier with his inclusion of the Jedi (to me, all they did, was postpone his inevitable fall))

So what happened was he was standing on the shoulders of giants (nothing wrong with that, that’s all of history), and then his hubris and selfishness blinded him and led to his downfall, which is good ending for the main villain. He falls to the faults of his values which are directly imposed to those of the heroes. That 1000 year plan nearly came apart several times as well. Hilariously, Palpatine's own master nearly ruined it. Plagueis was never much of a fighter, so he killed his master by using the force to cause a cave-in while he was distracted. This didn't instantly kill him, so he congratulated his student, only to then realised the idiot had destroyed his only means of escape, so then he gave him shit for risking the Grand Plan. Plagueis was ultimately rescued, but this was entirely by luck.

After I woke up to politics in 2016, the things I saw in the prequels hit home. I saw the puppetry from both sides and grew to loathe both. It stuns me that so few failed to learn the lessons. And yes, it was rehtoric like the mandalor arc that inspired extremist action, but the reason for that is because the faith in the system's inbuilt means of resolving such issues non-violently has been eroded to almost nothing. That, and propaganda. It's important to remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would surrender their freedoms for security deserve neither."

Worse, he was the man bringing a thousand year plot to fruition. Knowing that both diminishes and enhances his achievement. He didn't devise all of the plot whole cloth, the foundations had been prepared for literal centuries. That being said, he conducted it all like a grand orchestra and did not rest on the laurels of his predecessors, he adapted all the elements of their research and plotting. He even successfully completed many of their own personal goals, like functional immortality. It was not a new achievement, Vitiate had done it before, but Palpatine took that and instead of possessing others, he cloned himself and possessed them instead. THE puppetmaster.

I remember not really being a fan of RotS when it came out because I just couldn't stand the dialogue. I thought it was the acting that was bad, particularly in the scenes with Anakin and Padme, but I've seen the actors in other media since then and realized that it was just the awkward script that made it seem bad. But The Clone Wars took the intervening few years between Episode II and III and fleshed it out so much that Episode III was retroactively improved. I cared more about each individual Jedi who we saw die in Order 66. I cared more about Anakin because we'd finally gotten to see him at his best, as the Jedi Obi-Wan talked about so fondly in A New Hope, so his fall seemed more tragic and less stupid. I cared about the clones, now that I knew they weren't just traitors who always planned to kill the Jedi but legit heroes and victims of Sidious's plot.

After learning how deeply Sidious had control he realized he had to play into his plan, unite these disparate powers so that he could actually stop the Sith and save the Republic. 17:44 Qui-gon was the literal only Jedi who correctly embodied the light side of the force. He wasn’t ignorant towards the idea of having feelings like the others, and he wasn’t blindly loyal to the republic. He acknowledged the dogma of the Jedi, but didn’t let it stop him from doing what was right. If he had his way and was able to raise Anakin, then he would have been able to be a positive figure in his life like nobody ever was without him, except Palpatine. That’s why the duel between Qui-gon and Darth Maul was called “The Duel of Fates.” In addition, Qui-gin was relatively young, as far as Jedi go, and was able to go toe to toe with Maul. He would have only gotten stronger. Could you imagine him one day being a true leader and reforming the Jedi? In the duel of fates, if Maul had gotten him, Anakin would have been raised up to become Vader since day 1 and there would be no light within him to stop Palpatine and hope for anything good to come of it. If Qui-gon had the chance to raise Anakin, he would have been better balanced and would never have fallen. In the end, neither happens. Instead we got Obi-wan to take Anakin in. He treated him more as a sibling and couldn’t give him the kind of guidance he really needed, always defaulting to basic dogmatism. This is a truth that Obi-wan and even Yoda to some extent realized by the end. I love it.

It's actually funny to think that the reason why Palpatine isn't considered to be the best villain is because his long-term scheming and political machinations worked so well people are stilled fooled to this day. Authors write villains all the time that are supposedly plotting for decades on the downfall of the heroes, but this man did that and succeeded in one of the most absolutely conclusive and all-encompassing ways possible. What a legend 👏👏

In the novelization, during the end of the Yoda vs. Palpatine fight, Yoda realizes that even if he won and killed Palpatine, the Sith had already won. The Jedi had been fully vilified in the eyes of the public and branded as traitors. After falling off the podium, Yoda chooses to flee to at least help keep hope for the future.

The political story and the lore made the prequel era so great, that every time something is set in the Empire era, I can't help but think that it would be better set during the Clone Wars, because of how little nuance the whole Empire vs Rebels conflict has in comparison. I think the original trilogy laid the foundation for the Star Wars universe, but it was the prequels that shaped it into an actual Universe. It's like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

4:00 Response: I more or less agree. Because of the hate for the politics in the prequels, Disney tried to copy the originals. But that doesn't fking work when you're writing a sequel that takes place like 30 years later. You need to add some fkn politics to get the world building going. Everybody was like "Where the fk is the new republic?" They beat the empire in the original and did nothing? Wtf? 30 years of prep time and the new republic gets steamrolled by a bunch of stormtrooper cosplayers.

@tk-6967
@tk-6967 2 месяца назад
@ChristopherJames1993 Hitler's Reichstag was entirely made up of the Nazi Party, only had 3 elections/plebiscites and only convened 20 times. Furthermore, the enabling act of 1933 meant that the Reichstag had no actual control of the country, which was further solidified in 1938 and then again in 1942 where Hitler officially confirmed that they were pretty much done, preventing new elections until 1947. That example thus doesn't work, and actually it is closer to what happens with the Republic Senate. The Roman Senate was never meant to be a democratically elected body, so that example also doesn't work. Unlike those 2 nations, the CIS was actually a democracy. Of course for the purposes of the Sith Grand Plan this wasn't the case in reality, but the Senate was not powerless like in Nazi Germany nor was it wholly undemocratic in the sense that the Roman Senate was. There are of course other ways that the Senatorial system in Star Wars wouldn't be considered democratic by Earth standards, but by the standards of the Star Wars universe, the CIS is as much of a democracy as the Galactic Republic.

To be fair to the council literaly all the evidence was against Ahsoka and she even colluded with a known separatist war criminal Asajj Ventress and she did basically nothing to really try to dissuade them. The jedi council afterwards admitted that they fucked upp and where willing to promote her even though she did nothing to earn it. Mace was a bit of a prick about it but Ahsoka used the same logic to a guy whose people where enslaved so she is pretty hyppocritical about it. Also later on she trusts Bo-katan and the death watch who are known terrorists and war criminals who last she met massacared a town because they had the audacity to not want their women enslaved over the jedi council who mostley just where duped by Palpatine.
@corruptangel6793
@corruptangel6793 3 месяца назад
My biggest issue is that the evidence was far from conclusive, and so it makes no sense for the council to throw one of their own under the bus like that. They should have publicly handed Ahsoka over, but behind the scenes helped Anakin's investigation to definitively prove what happened. Of course, the only reason Anakin figured it out was because Bariss was dumb and spilled the beans... that entire arc was poorly executed and, IMO, hurt pretty much everyone invloved.

@Richtofen-gy9cj yeah but more in the complacency sense and not the cartoonishly evil sense. The Sith are evil and seek power and material things for themselves. Hence they are a corruption of the Force, using it to take essentially shortcuts to happiness.
