That's not true. You can chose to shoot that way but a lot of ring light set ups don't point the light directly at you from where the camera is. It depends a lot on what style of lighting you want. And shooting it that way has a higher chance of showing the ring light reflection through your eyes which gives an unnatural look. Not everyone wants that
