@TillyDouglas

You are very welcome! 💜 Did you clean the tops of the tiles before you poured the resin on them? It could well be the oils from your fingers that caused it, resin really does not like oil of any sort and it will push away from it. Give them a wipe down with a tiny bit of Isopropyl alcohol on a cloth and hopefully it will sort that for next time. 👍 ... Oh and I'm usually behind a camera, even for photos, so this was a big deal for me! 😊 😃 💜

Hello , if Ian not wrong this is the first time , I comment to you and I just want to thank you for this incredible tutorial about resin it’s being so helpful to me. You know what I did resinned a set of 4 tiles and don’t know what was wrong but all of them dried with kind of holds or empty spices , I hope you understand my point could please tell me what is that I not doing properly.❤️
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 3 года назад
Hello Mirna, you're very welcome, I'm so pleased it was helpful for you. When the resin makes holes or pull back from the edges, it often means there is some sort of oil on the surface before you resin. It could be that you used silicone oil in your paint, or perhaps just oil transferred from your fingers. If you used silicone, then you will need to clean the tiles properly before you add the resin. If that is not the case, then it could well be the natural oils in your fingers, so give them a wipe over with some alcohol on a soft cloth, and then avoid touching them with your ungloved hands before you resin. 🌹

@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 года назад
Hi Alex, thank you very much! Yes I have used photos and they work really well, but you do have to completely seal the photo with something like ModPodge first, otherwise the resin will soak into it and leave it looking water damaged. Make sure to seal the edges as well as the front and back of the photo. Afteer it has completely dried I add a thin layer of resin to the tile and place the photo on the top making sure there are no air bubbles under the photo... Then add another coat (or more coats if needed) 🌹

@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 3 года назад
Hello Linda, my fellow Brit 👋 I have seen this craft resin, but I haven't tried it yet ... If you use this link, you will get 10% off your order craftresin.refr.cc/visualsense and their prices are very reasonable! This is what they say about the temperature of their resin... "The maximum temperature that cured Craft Resin can tolerate after 21 days of curing is 200F or 93C." ... So that should work nicely for coasters, but as I say, I haven't tested it yet. I do use the Australian floetrol, but only for the bloom cell activator, as it is very expensive... I buy that on Ebay, and have to import it from Australia. If you check the links under my video, you will see my Amazon links, most of the bits and pieces I use are on there, including the alcohol.

@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 года назад
Hi Julie, I don't think that resin is particularly good with the heat test, although they do claim it is, I disagree! The resin that I prefer to use is called Craft Resin. With the resins, some are a 50/50 mix, but others are 60/40... It really just comes down to the brand. I got my stamp from Zazzle, there's a link under the video for that... They are great because you can completely personalise them on their website, and it's very easy to do. 🌹 ❤️ xx

Hello, thank you for the video. I've tried to resin coasters for the 1st time, after about a couple of minutes after pouring the resin on top it started to separate from the edges I'm not sure why because I cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol really well twice as I did use silicone oil in the acrylic paint and it still separates . Can you help me out with this?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 года назад
Hi Vera, your problem is almost certainly caused by the oil you used. You will need to clean all the silicone oil off before you attempt to resin them. Try using corn starch and rub it in really well, then brush it off and wash it, then repeat as many times as you need to. This is the reason I never use silicone oil.

Hi Kendra, perhaps use just a little more resin on them, make sure the tiles are completely level and spread the resin around with your gloved hand. I prefer to move the resin with my fingers because I can feel where there needs to be more, or less, resin.

Hi, I love your videos and follow them a lot. I can’t get this process to work. My finished tiles have blemishes and dips and welts on them. It happens almost every time. I tried using less resin and using more resin. I tried to spread it with sponges, brushes or just my finger and I can’t figure it out. Do you have any suggestions ?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas Год назад
Hi Anna, have you used any oils at all in your paint? If you have, you will need to clean that off properly before you can resin ... There are lots of videos showing how to do that. Make sure you clean them with alcohol, and then make sure you keep gloves on when you handle them, otherwise the oil will transfer from your fingers. Good luck, I hope these things help.

Thank you Tilly for this very informative video posted a couple of years ago ☺️ I have dimples on the ones I did yesterday so I will have to apply a second coat. Please tell me how long to wait before I sand them?

If you use alcohol ink for your application- you then spray with a sealer - do you still use the alcohol spray before putting on the resin ?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas Год назад
Yes absolutely Paulette, the alcohol spray with help remove any specks of dust and finger prints.

Yes that's right Liz. At least it is with most resins, so check with the brand of resin used.

Can coasters be saved if you didn’t alcohol them before applying resin and it pulled away from the edges?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 года назад
Yes, you can sand them, (do it outside and wear a mask because resin dust can be dangerous) then clean with alcohol and give them another coat of resin.

I'm having trouble on a few of them with the resin pulling back from the edge. What am I doing wrong?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 года назад
Hi Rona, it could be that you have oil on them from your fingers, so make sure to give them a really good lean with alcohol before you resin them, and make sure to wear gloves so you don't transfer more oil onto them. It could also be that you're not using enough resin... Or it could be that you haven't got them completely level. 🌹

How long should my tiles dry before I can resin them?
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 3 года назад
Hi Tami, I leave mine for about 3 weeks... I know there are some people that don't think you need to leave them that long, but any amount of dampness left in the paint will ruin the resin.
