Great Video. 45- It's actually a tail slate. Second sticks would be if you were to clap right after you noticed the 1st one wasn't good enough.

Yes your super right, we learned to call it end board, that's what it should have been. Thanks for telling us about it, we will add a title to correct it.

Another tip, record the "silent" audio from the room or place because you can use it as background in case you have problems with the enviromental noise of a dialogue

Good job. I have a couple of others we definitely always emphasize. 101 when connecting any cable connect first to the least expensive piece of equipment. 102 always turn around first in the direction you want to go, never back up on set. It will save your equipment from being knocked over.

Love how "low budget" usually means having video, audio, lights, furniture, props, actors, a film crew, expertise, knowledge, locations, techniques and skills, and more importantly: still watch Riot Films.
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 3 года назад
I suppose when you considering film budgets are usually in excess of $200 million, low budget can be anywhere between $100,000 and $5m. What we do is more considered a micro budget.

I've been in the film business for 40 years and a film teacher for ten years. I agree with 99% of the advice he gives. As noted, however, it is a tail slate. Second sticks in another thing. Not a big deal. As a teacher I wish I could talk as fast as this guy!

I like most of the tips in this video, but I couldn’t disagree with tip 22 more - some of the best scenes in movie history consist of nothing but people sitting/standing and talking, (The Master, Pulp Fiction, In Bruges, and many more) other than that - this was a really well made video :-)
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 6 лет назад
True! But they are all surrounded by scenes of people doing things. I think our tip is to prevent new filmmakers from just creating films with heavy dialogue and not a lot of action or drama.
@StepbyStepPhotographyandVideo
@StepbyStepPhotographyandVideo 6 лет назад
It's TRUE but you should still give your actor something to DO during the scene(drive the car, entertain the hitman, get to the site of the hit, intimidate the hit and eat the cheeseburger.) That's the 2nd scene in PF. Great material, great dialogue and great subtext allow for the most subtle moments to become brilliant, it starts with the material. Make that the best you can and then you can tell your actor to do something as simple as play with a pencil while they deliver their lines and all of the sudden the scene comes to life.
@deadcolony1298
@deadcolony1298 5 лет назад
You can get away with this if you have amazing dialogue but other than that it’s best to have them moving

You can use the free version (old version) of Celtx to create storyboards. You have basic shapes like people, lights, cameras, doors, furniture etc. Just drag and drop to the desired location. If you want a great screenwriting program, download Trelby. It's free and open source, simple and straightforward :)
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 5 лет назад
Cool. We didn't know about celtx for storyboards and Trelby for screenwriting. We have recently been using Scrivener for screenwriting and organisation. It costs but definitely worth the money.
@Albanez39
@Albanez39 5 лет назад
@@TheFilmLook I don't think beginner screenwriters and hobbyists should spend money on such a program. That's why Trelby is great, it has all of what you need to write a script or play and it's completely free. Ideal for students and anyone else that isn't getting paid for what he's writing.

As I am from the North East, (Durham) I feel like you missed a trick with the make and could of called the channel the film Luke. Though not sure if many outside of the NE would get.. I also was always told to say Striking on film set and if you crossing the camera you have to say crossing frame - obviously never do this whilst recording. Getting some decent boots and clothes water proofs are a need sometimes and layers. I've always called clapping at the end an end slate. Which You already have seen. so just ignore me. Othwise a fantastic video seen 2 and was an instant subscriber looking forward to more content

Hey bro , I have Rode NTG3 Mic ( need phantom power ) , which sound recorder should I go for which has great battery backup , so that I can use it with ntg3 for long time . my budget options are limited though - Zoom h5 , Zoom h6 , Zoom h4n pro , tascam Dr 40 , Tascam DR60 mark ii OR any other in same price range ..... Love ur videos 😍😍😍😍
@TheFilmLook
@TheFilmLook 6 лет назад
We have the Tascam DR70d and would recommend it. You can use USB power banks for extra battery life which is great for long shoots. As the Rode NTG3 requires phantom power, your audio recorder will run out of juice a lot quicker, so an extra few battery banks in your sound kit will do the job.
