They decided "Right. All our 1st party properties? They can never have certain elements in them anymore. Here's a big list of all the things we can't have in our games anymore." And a lot of what made the original two Paper Marios what they were? Right at the top of that list, so we're never going to have levels or party progression ever again.

Can we just quickly acknowledge that Jon rolled a 1 for attack and the enemy rolled a 1 on evasion, dying to the 1 damage hit.

Well, this is awkward...the new character we got here is Alicianrone, but here's the thing...her game isn't even out yet. We don't know much about her or her friends! (That, and one of the characters she seems to be associated with could be sorta hard to explain.) The gist of it is that she and her friends seem to be magical girls of a sort, and go by titles with Witch in them. But that's not enough for me to leave off on, so let's get a more familiar "friend" who you probably saw the guys whacking a while back... Marie Poppo! Poppo's another 100% OJ original, and debuted from the start alongside Kai and Tomomo. She is named after and based off an old hamster pet of Hono, one of the main artists of not only 100% OJ, but also most of OJ's games as well. She used to talk in third person earlier on in the game's lifespan, but has since changed to just Pokemon speak with some occasional slight alterations in the words. The Poppos are undoubtedly mischievous girls, usually stealing stuff under folks' noses and finding amusement in the chase. Within the base campaigns, she infamously (and consistently) stole the belongings of some of OJ's main characters, the likes of which include QP's pudding, Aru (aka Santa)'s presents, Marc's big rocket, and poor Kai's wallet (and Suguri tags along just because she's nice). She and another Poppo, being mass-produced creations, do this to lure the heroes over to the creator of the replicas of the worlds, Tomomo, for her plot of "become very popular and beloved". However, the Poppos aren't TOO loyal; one of them even agreed alongside the heroes that Tomomo wouldn't really have much impact (ouch). In another campaign, Tomomo also used two varieties of Poppo (one of which is based off 200% Mixed Juice) to help calm down a destruction-happy Star Breaker, though with not much luck in that plan. Also, despite what Sora says (and Poppo reacts), Poppo is not a mouse, nor is she "Mikky Mousse". Poppo is also a constant source of fun for jokes in the game, with April Fools and Poppo Day being a regular occurrence for a lot of them. Patch notes have even been made mentioning how Poppo wins more games, intensifies, sees more of your stars, returns upon KO as another identical Poppo...there's even a Big Poppo which could steal Kai's player's credit card info! (Don't worry, it doesn't actually do that.) Speaking of which, there's also a co-op boss named Star Devourer which is a blue-haired, fanged Poppo who gets stronger with more stars and automatically wins when she gets 1000. Keep your wallets close, folks. Otherwise...hey, is that the Ubiquitous car- POPPO!!! MY STARS!!!

I need to ask a serious question about this game... WHY ARE GREEN STARS ONE STAR AND GOLD 10 WHEN THE REGULAR STARS ARE GOLD This has always weirded me out and why it is so hard to learn the costs.

Alicianrone's (what a name) Hyper Card Art makes her look like the Shanghai Doll from Touhou. Or maybe it is just me. Edit: Her theme also sounds very Touhou-like to me

I think Suguri (the character Tim is modded on to) might be my favorite. I like her high-risk high-reward play style and I think her theme song is awesome.

It’s been too long! After a week of vacation and another week of… forgetting, it is finally time for the Dangerous Yuki review. She was released alongside Casual Tomomo in DLC 15. We’ll go straight to her gimmick since her stats are pretty solid, but nothing new (just slightly worse than Kai). First, she turns every Pudding card into Tragedy in the Dead of Night, a trap card that steals a random card from the victim’s. Second, she gains no Wins from fighting encounters. Third, and most interestingly, she gains 1 Win whenever someone lands on a trap she places. This is the first trap-focused character we’re covering. Her statline is solid enough to take kills on players while staying relatively safe herself, and gaining wins from landing traps gives an extra bonus to using them, even if it probably won’t matter much in the long run. Not being able to get wins from basic enemies does pigeonhole her into going for Star Normas more often, but that isn’t too big of a deal. In comparison to regular Yuki’s underwhelming at best hyper, Dangerous Yuki’s Hyper, Evil Mastermind, is a pretty useful card. Usable at level 2 for 13 stars, it has 2 effects: 1) If you are holding a trap card, draw a trap card from the deck, then place all the trap cards in your hand onto the board in random locations. 2) If not, draw 3 trap cards and place a random one onto your space. This card allows Yuki to place trap cards much faster than any other character, and lets her get around level and star requirements for those traps. This is particularly potent for For the Future of the Toy Store, a trap that steals half of the victim’s stars and normally can only be used while under 50 stars. This is one of her better options, alongside Flamethrower, Present Thief, and Bad Pudding, which will become Tragedy in the Dead of Night when she uses it. You may notice that all of those cards (aside from FtFotTS) affect your opponent’s held cards- yep, yet another instance of card control, and this time, she embraces it in her playstyle. Unfortunately, the card’s randomness can make it a bit unreliable, and its effectiveness suffers on large maps. Overall, Dangerous Yuki is a character built to disrupt other players’ gameplans. Her statline is solid, and her hyper lets her turn the board into a veritable minefield, where one wrong step could cost you an important card. However, her viability drops on maps where people have more choices on how to move around. She sits around the bottom of A+ tier- a solid pick, for sure.

So a bit of a fun fact: Alicianrone is actually going to be the main character of her own game (which shares her name) which is actually yet to be released as of this comment! She was the third of the "Witch" characters that appear in this game from her universe... and even appeared sooner with the introduction of Gift Cards (being featured on the 'Windy Enchantment' card). Referred to as the "Speed Witch", her gimmick is ...well, high speed movement; this is reflected in both her hyper and her dynamic evasion modifier passive. Her overall playstyle isn't that bad... but a thing to note regarding her hyper is that she ONLY gets the triple dice value for movement from her initial roll; any extra rolls she receives from Move or Warp Move panels only give her normal movement values (she will still deal damage off of these extra movements, but the damage is always based on her initial rolls value regardless) BONUS fact: It is an achievement to hit her opponents five times in a single Hyper use... which is actually quite difficult (yes, I'm speaking from experience as it's one of the few I don't have as of this comment)!

Honestly, I find that Chuggaa really doesn't pay too much on strategy and to where he's landing because he had two chances to level up and he missed them by making the wrong choice.

Thank you Jon for at least trying to keep Chugga's overblown rage against Sticker Star in check. As a lifelong fan of the Paper Mario series, I actually finished Origami King recently and adored it from start to finish. If I was someone who was incapable of forming their own opinions, I might have never even considered playing Origami King after hearing how loudly people whine about the series being different now. Not that people aren't allowed to say how they feel about things, whether positive or negative, but lots of folks are just so blindly biased towards their own nostalgia that they might not even give new games a fair chance if they so much as see one generic Toad on screen. And I worry that Chugga is one of those people.

Personally thought the AIs music was celtic sounding but I think I see where Emile is coming from. It sounds very similar to music from Fairy Tail.

In regards to character playstyle, I like Tim's character most from what I've seen so far, Suguri's stats and Hyper seem like fun stuff to use. On the topic of Tim, I'm gonna make a semi-bold claim and say Tim wins this one, finally. Technically it's just five-sided gambling, one for each player and a second space for Emile.

Oh, they're finally up against Alicianrone. She's the dlc character I decided to buy after playing this game for awhile. Even though she's not the best fighter, her hyper can be really clutch at the end of games if you go for wins. I had no idea until after reading the comments that she's supposed to be getting her own game at some point, so I'm very excited to play that. Assuming it ever comes out...
