It can be true though. My brother was working for a recycling company, and the truck hit the bin and caught his hand between a cement pole and the metal bin- amazingly it didn't break any bones, but he got what's called a compression laceration, which is where your skin is hit so hard it splits open. He had to have over 50 stitches (because hands are complicated), but it is now the tiniest hecking scar, and he legitimately nearly lost his hand. He just also had good doctors.

This reply is so late but alot of people I know do it to remember what they were going through as it's physical proof that what they were going through was real and that they eventually made it through and that they're still alive. it can be a reminder in a somewhat positive way

@scurbbb yeah, that's how it is for me. I'm kind of proud of them tbh, it means I survived, and working with patients who have scars with the same kind of origin, I'm able to empathize and have an open conversation without discomfort. Kind of feels like a superpower sometimes, we both know that kind of pain. The only scars that sometimes bother me are the stretch marks, but that's a self-love I'm still working on learning.

i noticed that the closer i am to relapsing, the more affected i am by my scars. i personally have a lot; on both of my entire arms, on my belly, on both of my legs, and also on my lips. how weird is that. i’ve grown to be comfortable wearing crazy oversized t-shirts (sleeves go down to my elbows), because the only scars i’m almost always comfortable with are those on my hands, wrists and forearms. how did i get to this point man

As someone who has still scars they still bleed who isn't clean not near so I find people who quit SH so amazing, I don't think I could ever stop. I think I'd be 30 if I even hit that age id still cut myself. I don't see myself coping and I don't think I ever will.

My mom had to get half her collarbone removed due to an infection, and had a very visable permanent scar. She has gotten asked about it from kids, adults, and everyone in between - and my favorite reaction was from a cashier who was so moved and just the kindest person about it, speaking of my mom as strong and a fighter. That guy was awesome.

Zai Passion i use to be the same as you. I almost died from doing that. What helped me was keeping my hands busy. When i felt overwhelmed i would push down really hard on my markers and pencils on paper and just draw lines or whatever i felt like. I also stared playing with really hard clay. It helped me get my pain out by hurting the clay and not myself. It does get easier it just takes time. You can message me anytime if you want to

Maybe it was a big accident. I was in a car-motorcycle crash accident, i was the rider, my motorcycle broke bad enough and we had to buy new front cover and some other parts........but luckily i was just bruised, no scars, no internal damage whatsoever. Maybe she had something similiar to that, big accident with small scar left.
