Can you live in Slovenia and pay zero taxes? This is an interesting question, and the answer is... well it depends. There is a way to get tax exemption while living in this beautiful country.
Today we are covering this unusual program in Slovenia that will give you a tax benefit after you lived in the country for 15 years. After you've been a resident for this long, you will be paying ZERO tax in Slovenia.
Slovenia is normally not a low tax country! The do have a program for people who earn less than 100 000 EUROS per year, and they can end up paying only 4% in taxes. So, if you're a freelancer who makes less than 100k this may be a good program for you.
But if you make more than 100k per year, you'll end up paying quite a bit in taxes!
However, if you're an investor who is making money of capital gains, you can take advantage od decreasing tax rate over the years.
What does this mean?
The nominal tax rate for capital gains is 25%, but every 5 years you hold that investment it decreases by 5% at the beginning, and after 15 years it goes down to zero!
This is something that may be interesting to investors who are considering getting a residency in Slovenia.
Who are we and what do we do?
We are Offshore Citizen team. We help people become global: get a second passport, set up a second residency, pay less taxes, do banking abroad, etc.
We have lots of interesting articles on different topics, we have relevant information up to date.

Stumbled upon this, basically the tax until $100k is around 10-20% ("normirani SP") but including the mandatory social security contributions, you will pay here typically around 40%. Oh yea, and police on every corner, similar to Switzerland (just that slovenians "switz" more, meaning they "sweat more" for the same money).

Hi Michael- just found and subscribed to your channel and binge-watched a bunch of videos. Great stuff, thank you! I spent four months in Slovenia a few years ago and loved it, and I am considering it for retirement (I'm a Canadian citizen/resident), would not be working, only living on pension/REIT distributions. I've been trying to find out about individual property ownership as a non-EU citizen; some websites say it is not possible in Slovenia, but some say it is, based on Canada's membership in the OECD. Are you able to answer this?

For example, Estonia has no corporate income tax on retained and reinvested profits. This means that there is 0% taxation on profits as long as the company keeps reinvesting it into further expansion. You saying that is the same rule for Slovenia? thank you.

Friendly tip: don't come even close to Slovenia if you want to do business. Sure this little part of tax exemption is nice but Slovenian government changes things every cycle so this could be gone and you will be stuck in a high tax country with no benefits. Come to Slovenia if you want to retire and lay back, if you want to work the government isn't friendly to you. The less you do the more u are welcomed.

??? you get taxed here on half mil more than 50%, I don't know where you get those numbers. And 5,10,15 years is for capital gains on real estates, now is 25% again in first 5 years. If you make 0,5 mil profit in company and you don't spend it until 31.12 that year, you get taxed more than 50% and pay ' akontacijo dohodnine' that 250k for next year one more time. So be carefull not breaking the leg year after, cause you have to stay awake. And under 100k for companies, that is called 'normiranec', you pay tax on yours 20% of gross income and even that I think is canceled from last or this year. Slovenia is one the best places on earth, but talking nice about taxes is not.Only banks in church live good life here :)

I just recently had a long conversation with someone from Slovenia, who was telling my how it all looks nice on the outside, but underneath it's a typical post communist corrupt system. He strongly recommended me not to set up shop there.

Corrupt can be a good thing. The real question is how does it affect you?
@snowdolphvov4193
@snowdolphvov4193 Год назад
@@OffshoreCitizen well it doesn't affect common people and the thing is also what kind of corruption is happening. Here the main cause of it are different constitutions that are not protected enough from political influences and provisions from the government projects. Now, it isn't that bad just not as it should be, and the police is not corrupt, also the military is not, what makes everything run efficiently

Good video. Very interesting! I moved to Slovenia to live from this year (received temporary residence), at this moment i'm interested in taxes and ways to reduce them. One of the main reasons of moving i was expected new law in 2022 for crypto about 5-10% easy taxation, but goverment changed and law was rejected by next goverment. As i understand if they decide to pass new version of law for crypto exit to fiat it would be 25--27% or even more. Offshore citizen, what optimization scheme for crypto traders residents in Slovenia you can recommend for longterm living - with opening foreign company or even more?
