"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

If you mount the feeder table on incline down to the crusher, the shaking of the machine should feed the rocks on the table into the crusher.
@SilvaDreams
@SilvaDreams Месяц назад
The hopper should be feeding over the engine, that hoop on top of the crusher is suppose to attach to the hopper to shake it and feed it.

I have an 8x14 with a 6ft tray sloped down. This machine only bounces because its on wheels. Mine is stationary and does not bounce and so wont self load. I ended up mounting the tray on springs and making a simple vibrator with 1/2 hp electric motor running from a generator.
@lukasgut1391
@lukasgut1391 Месяц назад
You don't need much of an incline. Just put a vibrating motor on the bottom with like a 10 precedent incline. They are used for concreat and are relatively cheap.

I used to work at a commercial rock crushing company and we crushed river rock. The jaw we had was three times the size of yours. There was a screening deck that fed the jaw the larger rocks. The smaller rocks fell through and were sent either to cone crushers or another screener to sort out round rock for concrete. We easily had two miles of conveyor belt to transport the rock into the crusher area. Our jaw crusher didn't crush down as small as yours; we used cone and roller crushers to dial in the aggregate sizes we sold.

It's amazing how little rocks are on the fields edge, where I am in Australia you can find fencelines lined with mounds probably 4ft high, 6ft + wide and 100s of feel long., I've picked tonnes up from one spot and barely made it 20m.

@SilvaDreams

Ironically the hopper when you put it on initially is actually backwards from what it should be. It should be feeding from over the engine which is what that hoop on the top is for as it attaches to the hopper to shake it. The shaking action of the crusher will automatically feed the rock in with the proper chute and will keep it from launching those harder rocks. Also you need some way to move the rock away from the exit point, be it a hill side, a raised mound or a pit with a exit chute.

You know the gravel coming directly down is probably a major part of the problem with it. You already have it elevated a bit, you could get a used slide from a kids playpark or something and mount it right underneath to guide the gravel off to the side a bit where its easier to get with the loader. No need for a belt.
@MattWeber
@MattWeber Месяц назад
Main benefit of him using it to make gravel for the driveway is he literally could move the crusher on the driveway, crush some, move it forward, crush more.. then just grade out all the little piles.
@jkh7901
@jkh7901 2 месяца назад
If you put your loading deck at a 20ish degree angle and made it super ridgid to the structure of the crusher it may become its own vibratory funnel. Have the loading deck loading from the side like you currently have it and then have a conveyer coming straight out of the bottom under the loading deck for stacking the gravel. Vevor has some conveyers that are cheap you may be able to modify to work

The way I've seen these things at little gravel pits is the unit is up on a rise and you can dump directly into it and there is a good area under it for the gravel to build up. If someone is going to stand right there and feed I'd definitely rig up some sort of water spray, lot's less dust when the rocks were all muddy

I always had a satisfaction with these types of crushers, stationary and mobile. at my old job we had a jaw crusher that we could run about 3000tn per day through. one of the biggest in our company. 40 inch by 48 inch with somewhere around 80-85tn (160,000-170,000lbs) of crushing force that rock you're crushing looks like a mix between Limestone, Gneiss, and Granite. not sure about that bluish rock, though. we've got a good bunch of blue/green rock similar to that and our geologists say that it's almost always limestone

If this becomes a permanent installation, I think it might work well to build a raised platform for the crusher, where the new gravel will drop onto a sharply angled slope below, going off to one side. For example, looking at the crusher from the engine, rock is brought in from the right, gravel drops to angled channel going to left, where it can be pushed away using the power-blade of your choice. Lots of labor setting up the installation, cement to make concrete, but it should be cheaper than buying and maintaining conveyor belts. You could probably have a minor side hustle of performing gravel conversion for people who bring their own rocks(except the blue ones).

Hi Kevin! I'm your biggest gravel fan! That chute and Hopper are true genius. If I had that machine, I would crush rocks all day, every day! I wonder if you could make a water powered conveyor? It could dump into a giant, shallow pan that's slightly tilted. When it's full, you could drag it with your tractor and spread it where you want it. Sorry, I know you've probably got better things to do, I just love that machine 😊 I think WAY too much about gravel.
