Leucian Freud's Whippets are superbly painted, so loose and 'heavily flopped', just how they feel when sleeping on you. Whippets are absolutely the best dogs ever, clean, kind, feline, just lovely.
Thank you for this documentary interesting how the breed has changed in size and presentation when showed. I had a small whippet always felt she resembled the early English dogs...honestly I do like them a bit on the smaller side.
How wonderful. Thankyou for such a fantastic overview. I now see several of these dogs and bitches throughout my whippets pedigree. Simply fascinating!
Genetic studies find US and EU whippets diferent, clustering within the breed but also in their own group. Diving into pedigrees you see those first American whippets from meander kennel being the ones that don't show up in EU dogs. Are those first imports responsible for the genetic differentiation? It's just a matter of genetic drift? Selection? Or admixture with show greyhound in America and Italian greyhound in Europe?
This is exactly the reason why I imported my dog from the UK and not from a breeder in the US. EU whippets are the only true breed standard hence why they are smaller and swifter then the bigger and sluggish American ones which were bred according to the made up AKC standards.
@@brizowater9417 Now I'm curious about your dog, is it on The breedarchive? It's interesting as I interpret American whippet's genetic position to be more genuine and not as admixed/related to other breeds (mainly Italian greyhound and racing GH) I also fancy the more "houndy" look on them. In fact if I were to start a breeding, program I'd like to put my hands on some dual purpose old US lines as part of the foundation stock.
