Just put down a deposit for a 2023 pearl solar yellow traveler. I like the extra lights on the adventure and Kawasaki sells them as an accessory you can add to all of the models. I owned a brand new 03 and 07 KLR and never worried about the doohickey.
Comparing the front fender to Jennifer Grey’s nose is awesome. I had an 07 KLR and the only thing I found slow was the acceleration. 75 on the highway was easy. And it would do 90 without much trouble. I sold it in the spring and have been trying to decide whether to get the new model. Being 6’1” I absolutely loved the size of it. It’s actually why I bought it in the first place.
Hi also am the proud owner of the identical KLR and think your spot on with the grocery list I’m a shorter rider at 5’8” all I’ve done so far is a 3D cycle part 1” lower kit nothing extreme and the Kawasaki ergo seat these have allowed me to be able to almost flat foot it if I need to I’m loving the bike and we both have a lot of room to go great channel thanks Frank
Thank you for the video, contemplating getting into a dual sport, liking the KLR 650 in the bright color. Great tips, very much appreciated, looking forward to more. Safe travels...
Just ran across this channel because I’m about to buy a 2022 KLR. Love your presentation on the bike. Very good relaxed videos. Watched both of your videos on the bike. I think we are similar in age and expectations for the bike so makes me feel good about planned purchase. Can’t comment on your questions yet but hope to in the future.
Thank you! I’m glad you found my channel. I’m kind of changing gears (pun intended) on the channel and I hope to generate a bunch more content. My cousin is on the cusp (I think) of purchasing a KLR as well. As long as you manage your expectations, and know what you’re buying, I think you’re going to be very happy with the KLR. It’s a fantastic bike. Look forward to exchanging ideas again in the future.
Love your style and glad I found you. Turns out I'm going to look at a KLR Traveler tomorrow so it couldn't have been more perfect timing. Keep it coming on the moto work!
Nice discussion about your iconic KLR. I plan to get this exact bike this week...slightly used with 4k miles. I have an 03 Honda VTX1800c as well. I learned alot about the bike and possible modifications and accessories. Thanks. 👍
Great video, lots of good info & loved your humorous descriptions. I have a TW200 as well & splurged for the Tenere 700. Love the KLR. Highly recommend the double take mirrors as you mentioned, amazing product & have them on all bikes. Cheers from Canada, Ronny
Thank you! I have the DoubleTake mirrors and they made a world of difference. I love them. My cousin bought an Africa Twin a couple of weeks ago and I got a chance to ride it last weekend. I’m still editing the video. The T7 is just awesome. I’d love to check one out someday.
@@SuburbanPathfinder Love the video and info provided. The only thing that is missing is you showing either a screenshot or show on the video the parts you were talking about for the viewers so that we have an idea of what we’re looking at. Other than that great video, subscribed
Great Video. I'm looking at getting a KLR as well. Trying to decide If I want the Traveler or the Adventure. I like some of the features of the Adv but would rather have the Lava color and soft bags. I'm coming from a CRF250L so the 650 will be a big upgrade in power. My son will get the 250L. Ride Safe and enjoy. I'll check out your other Videos because you mentioned knives. My son is now forging and we are learning a lot. Anything to keep him outside.
Thank you! Whichever model you choose, I’m sure you’ll have a great time on it. If you’re used to a small-displacement dirt bike, as I was, you won’t find the KLR lacking in power at all. Ride safe!
Thanks man. After about 25 years of riding, I didn’t get out for about two seasons. Didn’t realize how much I missed it until I got back in the saddle.
Nicely done on the video sir. I am new to your channel, obviously, because it is a KLR video. I will sub and look forward to seeing more from your channel as time allows. I am a Dual Sport Rider myself with the 2022 KLR as well. I enjoy my bike, sounds like you are enjoying yours as well. I have a 1200 mile review coming soon, probably in the next week or so. I will get it scheduled to come live soon. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this bike and I hope you have a blessed week. Dale
Thanks, Dale. I’ve subbed your channel as well. Interesting bike selection! My cousin is off buying a CRF1000L today. I’m looking forward to comparing them, myself. Thanks for the feedback!
Just subbed. I too recently got a '22 klr. I have added several things thus far. I got bar risers, different aluminum bars, tusk D-flex hand gaurds, excursion soft bags, tusk large waterproof duffel bag, IMS foot pegs, tusk shift lever, double take mirrors (took them off), and a ricochet bash plate. I too have yet to get crash protection, and I would like to get a different muffler. I absolutely love the bike. I am new to adventure riding. My only regret is waiting til nearly 50 years old to get into this bike lol. I've ridden motorcycle for many years, and this one is by far my favorite bike. It is however the slowest bike I've ever owned 🤣🤣🤣. I almost forgot... I would say the BEST purchase I've made for this, was my tusk olympic large tank bag. I cannot imagine owning this bike without it now. SO convenient to have that!!! RIDE ON BROTHER!!!
Thank you for the subscription and your thoughtful comments! Thank you especially for your thoughts on the Tusk Olympic. I’ve been considering a number of tank bags and I’m glad to hear that is a good one. I may give it a try. Ride on, indeed!!!
Kind of funny that you love the bike but still changed almost every changeable item. I had a gen1 and actually spent money returning it to stock. Only thing I might do now is foot pegs and crash bars.
@@elwood62 most of this is because I cannot leave anything alone lol. Pegs had to go, and so did the world's largest drain plug bolt. Everything I did, had nothing to do with handling and ride. I still have much to do to make it my own. I woulda done the same with a gen 1 or 2 as well. Or really, any other bike. I used to build custom bikes
@@joebiker5992 nothing wrong with that, I was just messing with you. I’ve got a friend that buys bikes to customize and resell them. It’s a cool hobby. When I bought my klr it already had the standard upgrades done. The exhaust was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think so I bought a stock can on eBay. There was an issue with the front brake and I found out it was aftermarket but no idea which one. So I bought an oem brake and master cylinder and installed that. Actually worked better too. There were numerous other things I switched back to stock form and in some ways I think it actually made it a better bike. My view on mods has changed drastically. It will be interesting to see if there’s a chip available some day to improve the fueling on the gen3. Something like that would be worth it, along with pegs and a crash bar.
Those krator pegs from Amazon are awesome. I put them on my 2017 back them and they've held up great and give good traction. I think I paid $12 for them in 2017. Yes they are cast iron, but strong enough for me riding double track. I'm 6' 240 LBs.
@@michaelbyrnes4936 it was around $130. I did the basic one without the temp gauge: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/watt-man-thermo-bob-2-p I did it myself. It takes an hour or two if you take your time but it’s very easy.
Interesting thoughts. Well done. Thank you. I’m pondering one/ new vs smoking deal used? Your thoughts on that? I’ve got other motorcycles and I’m getting kind of tired of putting a lot of money in bikes and then losing it because they lose value so fast so the use market is looking a little more inviting. I sure do like the idea of fuel injection, though I hate carburetors. Your thoughts on that?
Thank you so much! Used, definitely. This was only the second bike I’ve bought brand new. The pickings were a bit slimmer last year than they are now. The market is usually flooded with almost-new bikes at really significant savings. I’m always amazed at how many people buy a new bike and sell it again with only a couple of thousand miles on it. The used market is where the smart money is at. I’m thinking about getting a bigger bike (not getting rid of the KLR!) for touring with my wife. At my local Harley dealer, the difference between a new Road Glide and a two-year-old model, with around 7k miles on the clock, is about $15k! No way I’d buy new! EFI vs carburetor: I agree that carbs are a pain in the ass. I don’t really enjoy monkeying with them either. I think in an apocalyptic event or a long trip in very remote areas in the developing world, I’d want a carburetor because it can be fixed on the side of the road or in a dirt floor shop with basic tools. For all other scenarios, I prefer the convenience of electronic fuel injection. The only problem is that if your ECU or fuel pump fails, the bike will not run at all. But in your daily commute, that’s more of an inconvenience than an emergency. In conclusion, I prefer my fuel-injected bike but I would definitely not pass up a smoking deal on a low-mileage 2nd Gen KLR. And if I was planning an around-the-world trip, I’d want the carbureted bike anyway.
“The cheapest thing on a KLR is the rider” made me chuckle out loud. 😂 Subscribed! I’ve heard others say that the distance between the foot peg and the shifter is too short to comfortably get a riding boot underneath. Do you think this is an issue, and if so can this be fixed with getting a particular aftermarket foot peg?
For the foot peg program would grip tape help? Just a thought. Pick a klr soon. Just pricing the options and the aftermarket prices. Also the grip tape like was used on skateboards in the past.
I love my new KLR. I didn’t even really think it was that slow, it has a lot of low end Torque that gets it up to speed pretty quickly in my opinion. Ya, you’re not gunna be going 100mph but I’ve gotten mine as fast as 95mph, what more do you *really* need?
No matter what you do, a KLR will never sound good. I've been around the block on this and I know. Do yourself a favor and stay with the stock muffler. I've over 68k miles on my '08 and the stock muffler is still working just fine. And if you want the bike to be lighter, start eating more salad. ; )
