Dale, outstanding video as always. I bought my 2022 KLR Non ABS standard model in March 2022. Immediately within 100 miles I noticed I was having clutch problems. From a dead stop in 1st gear while releasing the clutch the bike would jump and shake. Rear wheel hopping and chain shaking. I took the bike to the 1st dealership and Kawasaki said it was nothing to worry about. I have rode motorcycles for 40 years and it was an apparent problem. Though I was treated as if I was incompetent. At 400 miles I took it to another dealership around May 2022 as the problem worsened. Finally this dealership worked with the Kawasaki K-Tech team. Clutch pack replaced no luck, rear wheel rubber damper replacement no luck. Finally all clutch discs were replaced and that solved the problem. This was late July 2022 before a fix was implemented. I finally got the bike back. Today at 1,000 miles now with no other problems so far. It was a frustrating time and I got upset many times. In the end my local dealership came through and saved the day to restore my faith. The waiting and waiting for warranty work approval and parts was very frustrating. Happy to report all have been fixed. Though tearing apart a brand new engine to replace clutch components did not make me happy at the time it all worked out in the end. It costed me nothing but the time wasted and multiple trips to the dealership was upsetting. I lost so much riding time and did not have the use of a brand new motorcycle for months due to this problem. Beware and I hope my problem was isolated to only my motorcycle.

Thanks again for your kind words and support for our little channel, it is truly appreaciated and I hope you have a blessed weekend and maybe you can get out and ride some as well. Great Video. I always assumed when you said "we" you meant you and your bike. You've been a great team. My Gen 3 has been good two up so far. What I did was cut a pool noodle and wrap it around the rack so it didn't bother her if she slid back to far. I just have an ammo can on the top so I can still get to the lock space. Stay safe!

@Heartlanddualsport Год назад
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us Brandon. Funny you would mention an ammo can, I though ammo cans mounted to the bike for side bags would make for a fun look as well. I ordered a set off amazon, when they got here they was way to small and i just have them stacked in the shop now, but one day I will find a set large enough, I just think it would look cool especially with some leather on it as an accent. Brother, first I want to say, welcome to the family. I think you are on the right track and to be honest, this platform, in my mind is a go anywhere do anything style bike that won't break the bank. It also means to me this, with it not breaking the bank, you are more likely to use this bike like a tool and take it places a guy wouldn't want to lay a 15 thousand dollar bike on its side, if that makes sense. I have taken my KLR in places I probably shouldn't have and done things I probably shouldn't have, but that is part of the beauty of this bike, there is no fear it won't get you there and back and if the back roads get a little slicker than you had hoped and your do lay it down for a quick nap, who cares as long as you dont hurt yourself in the process, (that does take some of the fun out hahah) Thanks again for taking the time to watch and share this with us, If I can help in any way please feel free to reach out anytime, this whole channel was made because I love to help others, so please reach out if I can help. Done the jumps, the craziness, and I have an appreciation for those devices that just work as I don't need to impress anyone with my spend, not in the market to impress other guys from where I have come from, not necessary. I believe the doohickey issue is mostly a function of the quality of your oil (how dirty and broken down it gets regardless factory recommended oil changes). That is because just as an abused drive chain, the balance tensioner chain elongates (stretches) from wear. That balancer chain stretch then exceeds the factory doohickey spring tension travel. My doohickey theory is to change the oil much more often than recommended, fill to actual capacity (top of window), not use a metal screen oil filter....and change filter at least as per factory recommendation, and reset doohickey chain adjuster at every filter change. You can never change your oil too much.

Great video as usual brother Mine has 1200 miles on it and it left me stranded on a georgia trip this past Saturday. Rode 100 miles...still half a tank left. Stopped for Mexican food and when I came out an hour later, it would turn over like crazy but not fire. Checked fuses, safety switches and everything I could think of. After another 1.5 hours, I got it running and drove straight back home without stopping or turning it off. I changed the plug because it's my first thought. That tip was ash white like it's running lean. I have warranty, so I will take it in next week and see what they come up with. Can't trust it at the moment. But I really like the bike. Sure is fun to ride. Keep up the great work! And the tank guard is awesome.

I live in Colorado and can attest the stock tires work great on asphalt canyons, hard dirt roads, and relatively easy singletrack. No need to tweak tire pressure or anything, just ride like you mean it, and as if your life depends on it (which it does), while staying in the pleasure zone, so it’s fun and not too scary.

A terrific, honest review. Thank you! I've had 5 KLR's. This 2022 Adventure.....is by far the best one. I have a question: Knowing what you know, would you now get a Corbin, Sargent, or other brand of aftermarket seat for it? Thanks!
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Год назад
Thank you so much for the kind words. I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, it helps our little channel out so much. Seat question: I will say this, if a guy has the extra money and wants one, get it. I would not encourage anyone to charge one, then they will pay way more than they should. Being a personal preference and most of us with a KLR are on a budget, I can say this, If one of those companies wanted to send me one for review and or to compare, I would do that, otherwise, I am fine with the seat as it sits right now. Maybe years from now when it is wore out, I may look into an aftermarket seat, but honestly as many hours as I have ridden the bike, the seat is not really a complaint in my book to justify the 200-600 dollars (pending brand etc) expense for it. Bike shorts first couple of days and I am fine for the rest of the long days riding. Thanks again for your question and I hope you have a blessed weekend and can find time to get out ride some. Dale

Very good review. I have 3600 on my 2022. I am a newer rider. The vibration is an issue for me. A 4 hour ride wears me out. I recently added a ROX 2 inch anti vibration riser and am adding Grip Puppies. Currently would not ride this bike for longer than 4 hours, I need to build up my stamina. The vibration is only an issue for my hands. Last Nov when the Bike was brand new cold starts were... strenuous. Cold was below 30. My opinion is the bike was tight, being new. Cycling the fuel pump twice seems to be the key to cold starts.
@michiganmoto7687
@michiganmoto7687 Год назад
If your hands are going numb but your not really noticing the vibrations anywhere else you are probably gripping to tightly. Relax your grip and see if this improves. This is a common issue with new riders. Anyway, enjoy your ride and keep the wheels under you ✌️

Ok I hear this in a lot of reviews. Fuel gage. My very 1st car the gas gage did not work. I learned to use 1 of my 2 trip meters to know how much fuel is left. All you need to do to know how much fuel you have left, no matter what vehicle you are in... 1st check your owners manual to see how much fuel your vehicle takes. (If you don't have a manual, google it). 2nd fill up, zero 1 of the 2 trip meters. Do 100 miles. See how many miles you have done. Fill up again and zero out trip meter. Do another 100 miles. You should get roughly the same amount of miles used. At this point you will know how many MPG you are getting. Take that amount multiply by tank size and that gives you how many miles you can go till empty. This way you never have to look at a fuel gage ever again. Additionally, if you decide not to fill the tank all the way up is no big deal. Refer to your MPG. That will give you the range you have for the amount that you put in.

Thank you so much for taking the item to watch and comment and like you, I do the same thing with my bike. I have rode so many that did not have a fuel gauge and. like my little DRZ< it was more like a 75 mile run. I think the fun part about some of the adventures and back roads, even with the gps, since so many places have closed down, it makes it interesting when you are traveling long distances, not knowing where the next gas station may be is another level to the fun. I went through two small towns in a row that had gas stations closed. I hope you have a blessed week and again, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. dale

@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Год назад
Yes sir, I will get one done for you if it helps at all, depending on how quickly i can get the video done on these tires I have, I will not buy them again, unless like this last go around that's the only ones available. Next set I am putting on is the Motox Tractionator Adventure, because I could get a set, if you do a lot of road in stead of dirt, the GPS actually gets about the same milage as these and would be number one pic, but again on back order. I hope this helps until I can get the video done, on tubes, I always run the heavy duty if they can be found, years ago that wasn't an issue like it is not, valve stem nut. The pros will tell you that nut is there to tighten down the valve stem cap to it, In my experience, not hot dogging the bike I have had no issues with them loose at the bottom either, but the pros will tell you not to do that, they be racing, im not racing. Again, top pic in my personal experience for a good all around 50-50 tire with the option of putting the rear on backwards would make it a little more dirt than road is the Motoz Tractionator GPS, next up is the adventure, those are my two choices in order. Again, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I hope this helps and I hope you have a blessed weekend,. Dale

I have wanted / still want an Africa Twin, as someone that has ridden both what do you think? would you rather have 2 KLRs or an Africa twin? Agree with you about the fog light button position, seems awkward, also at night in a helmet and gloves its hard. They could have just put a 3 position switch where the high beam is. My mirrors don’t vibrate at all it seems to me, I am just passing 120 miles though, but at 65-70 i could see clearly in the mirrors. after my longest ride which was only 50 miles at 65 my right hand just started to feel it, which I accounted to being new on the bike, I went from a 2 stroke cr250 that I put a skid plate and kickstand on. Here we can ride the ditches and I just got to the point that my body is too old and broken for that bike. Its so nice to just jump on and press a button and ride.

Nice video. I have a question that NO ONE talks about. The price out the door? Will dealers work with you and is it possible to get a better deal or is there just no wiggle room as far as dealers are concerned?
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Год назад
I am more than happy to talk to you about this subject. I will start with this, prior to 2020, now obviously that was when this bike came out, but bear with me a second,. Prior to the time frame mentioned above there was no shortages of anything to speak of. which leads me to today. Some dealers still have plenty of these bikes to go around, but with so many other shortages, its hard to say how much one will work with you. I can say this, there is still some wiggle room and if you talk to a dealer and he won't budge at all, you can probably save 400-600 at a different dealer. When I bought mine, I called several dealers asking for the out the door price and was surprised at the difference, a couple of them was spot on and one was like 500 less. If you have several dealers near you, you may get a better out the door price in person than over the phone as well. I would give you my out the door price, but one thing I have learned since moving to texas is, Here in Texas they include tag tax and title as part of the deal with no option to not have it included. Back in Oklahoma your out the door price would be less, but the tag tax and title was on you with in 30 days of the sale. So not knowing what state you are in, its hard to say for certain. I know this topic comes up some from time to time on FB, if you have not found our FaceBook group, i would like to invite you to go over there and join and ask, maybe some of the folks being from your state can give you a better answer on out the door prices for your area. I still believe a lot of the smaller dealers will work with you on price, however, anymore so many will not. Due to many factors. I hope this helps dale

I've got about the same amount of mileage on my bike and have had some fueling issues. I haven't had it to the dealer yet bc I'm in the process of doing some other work on it, but at certain points in my riding I've noticed throttle input becomes disconnected from the engine and speed either stays the same or decreases. It's only happened two or three times, but it is definitely happening. I thought maybe my throttle cables had stretches or something, so I wasn't too worried about it until I saw people mention it on a forum I frequent. I also had a weird rear brake issue that I need to get checked out. The rear brake lost all compression while I was pulling into a gas station. Reservoir was full of fluid, no fluid on the hoses, and the hose was still secure at both ends. I fiddled with the lever for about 5 minutes and compression returned; haven't had a problem since, but I'm still going to have a mechanic take a look.

I have heard some folks with size 13 and bigger have had more issues if they don't. I wear an 11 and I could make it work with the stock one, the extended version does work much better. You did hear correctly, the is not really any room the way the bike it put together to adjust it much at all from the factory, unless you have size 12 or bigger boots you may be happy, but if you do wear larger boots, the extended shifter is only like a 20-30 upgrade and that's still pretty cheap. DRZ owner here. Suzuki build quality is > Kawasaki in my experience. But alas, Kawasaki was my first true love and taste of freedom. And all three Kawasaki's I have owned ran just as well, regardless of maintenance history. If only Suzuki would answer with a DRZ-550 Rally. Do I continue modding, or just switch to the KLR?

Thank you for taking the time to share your DRZ as well as Kawasaki experience with us. I agree, from being a previous DRZ owner, they are truly a fun bike as well. I loved mine for the single track as well as small tracks, I have been using this bike as a adventure bike taking super long trips, not that a dry occult do it, but this is better at it in my opinion, the larger fuel tank right off the bat, makes it easier to make longer trips stock, I know there is solutions for the DRZ, but I really like the way it looks from the factory as well if that make sense. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment and I Hope you have a blessed weekend my friend. Dale

@@Heartlanddualsport And just for everyone's benefit, I purchased an 09 KLR with just over 15K and since I didn't have the time.....I had a dealer check valve clearances. Indeed the exhaust valves were tight out of spec.. New shims were ordered and installed, and there is a noticeable difference in how crisp the engine runs and breaths now. "Hard to start?" STOP using pee for fuel. I use REC fuel 90 octane in Florida.....and my bike starts and runs like a watch. If I'm somewhere where I can't get REC fuel.....at least 90 octane......I use HIGH TEST 93 OCTANE Shell or Sunoco gas. Starts and runs......perfect. On the new bikes with fuel injection......even better.

I’m looking at the tenere 700 bud like the kLR 650 I do some interstate riding at 70 mph doe’s the KLR use oil at higher RPM ???
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Год назад
The oil usage issue I believe it more related to how many wheelies you ride on your bike. I have not lost a drop of oil between changes. So no, mine does not burn oil and I have rode a lot of interstate speeds etc with no experience of oil burning. I am sure there will be some who argue this, but I ride my bike like I want it to be my last bike and last me, the speed, wheelies and riding it like I stole it is all in my past, I dont ride like a kid anymore, it takes too long to heal up hahah Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope this helps answer your question.
