Nice review but I wouldn't call them 1000 watt amps. Power amps are usually measured at 8ohms. So they would be 420 watts. Still impressive.

1st Congrats 🎉🎉 2nd Skeptical on the higher voltage OP Amps partially because my experience is lower voltage and filtering bring a extra dark background. 3rd Trim is Important every reviewer misses that fact it impedance matches your PreAmp to the Amp which is very critical. Happy Listening my only room with that much power on the main speakers is 4000 cubic feet

I currently have a pair of Benchmark AHB2 monoblocks what differences would I notice if moving to SPLs ?

I think the SPL would be more forgiving but the AHB2 is the only Benchmark product I havent heard extensively.

My response: 8 ohms is becoming an antiquated specification for loudspeakers, as more and more loudspeakers enter the market with lower nominal impedances, so I have no issue with it being rated 1kW for two ohms. More and more people are driving planar loudspeakers with their amplifiers, so having an amplifier that is thermally stable into two ohms is more critical than ever. The auto former concept by McIntosh is patented, so no chance of getting the same output power into all loads with any other brand, but power isn't everything.
