An excellent video production and just as I remember it, apart from the heat of course. It was hot all right. We were always overtaking each other on this ride be thankfully we both made it to the finish. This was my third attempt and first time finishing. It's a tough challange. You were good on the climbs.

The vendetta obviously did a great job even on the climbs, but as a fellow recumbent rider I'm well aware of the fact that still the rider has to do most oft the work. :)

Thank you! I've also been sleepy on local brevets. It seems to be easier to do 24+ hours on the bike if you start in the afternoon, so that the night comes early. I've also brought caffeine, such as caffeine boosts, gums, and ice coffee. This works best if you stay off coffee the week leading up to the event. And I strongly believe in the power of power naps. Most importantly, though, don't let yourself fall asleep on the bike. Stop when you have to. A few minutes nap and some caffeine has worked wonders for me. And as soon as daylight comes and you can get some breakfast, you'll be like new again.
Oh my! Impressive video! Wonderful performance! I'm not a recumbent rider, just yet, but I want to buy a V20C cruzbike from Western Europe and drive it all the way to Romania. It's about 1700 km. I want to do it in October or November. I would also like to do it as a credit card bikepacking trip, sleeping in airbnbs and carring as little stuff as possible with me. I understand that there is a learning curve on a vendetta and this question could sound a bit stupid, but how many km/day will be realistically possible for an average guy? (1700 km with about 9000 m climbing). Thank you! Keep the nice work!
Oh, wow, that is an ambitious plan. I like it! However, there's not just the learning curve. You also need to allow some time to let your body adapt to the different riding position. Not least your knees and ankles. If you're going to do this, you need to plan for the alternative (e.g. train) where you are forced to stop cycling. Having said that, it is certainly possible to do up to 300 km per day, but that is extreme, and requires constant riding and no issues. About half that is a more realistic daily average. And that is of course after you have become confident on the bike, which will take a few days at the very least. Good luck!
I'm currently in the market for a used cruzbike V20 Vendetta. How old is your bike it looks like one of the first ones made? I currently ride a Bacchetta Giro 26, I've read the V20 Vendetta is a much quicker bicycle. How is the V20 at climbing?
Yes, this is a very old Vendetta v1.0. I owned a Giro 26 before, and I can tell you that a Vendetta is indeed significantly faster. It is also one of the best recumbents for hilly terrain, although you could argue that a more upright Cruzbike Silvio is even better for that. I have a new video coming up very soon with more power and speed info, etc.

Thanks! Anything above 10% is very tough on the V20, and that gradient requires very low gearing. I run an 11-40 MTB cassette. Sorry, I don't have the title of the music.
@@UncaJohnFR This is true. If you need to ride lots of steep climbs, and you're OK being a little slower on the flats, the S40 will be a better choice.
Very good performance and nice video. I already saw you in Paris 2019, I was there with Milan. I have also been driving a Vendetta since March 2021. How did you mount the camera? You take very good pictures.
Takk! Litt vanskeleg å seie. Eg synest mi B&M IQ-X er bra på omtrent halv styrke, men eg er usikker på kor mange lumen det blir. Det gjeld å finne ein god balanse med nok lys men likevel lågt straumforbruk. Eg veit at på mi Fenix BC30 så er lågste nivå (100 lumen) nokså ubrukeleg, men neste nivå (200 lumen) kan gå dersom du har OK nattesyn. 500 lumen blir naturlegvis betre. Meir enn det er vel mest sløsing med straum.
Fabulous athletic feat and great filming! I ride an HP Speedmachine for touring and love it, but it is no hill climber. Bearing in mind that you are extremely fit, what is nevertheless your assessment of the Vendetta as a hill climber? Could you please let me know what is your easiest climbing gear combination (number of teeth upper and lower sprockets)? Love your videos, many thanks 😎
Thank you! The Vendetta is obviously fast on the flats. What's nice, though, is that it can also do climbs fairly well. But it doesn't have any advantage over uprights there. And you need low gearing since you cannot stand up and pedal. On the steepest rides like this one, I use 34 front and up to a 40 MTB cassette, in combination with an MTB derailleur and a Jtek Shiftmate. Quite impressive - the video work as well as your riding. Just got a v20c and learning to ride. Would love to be able to do multi-day trips one day as well as you. Question - I’m quite puzzled - how / where is the video camera mounted? I had thought a stick, but it spins around and I don’t see a stick. Magic? Also, what camera? Thanks!
Thank you! The camera is an Insta360 One X, and it is mounted to the handlebar. You can see the mount just above the mirror. Sometimes you can see the USB cable I use for charging it. With 360 footage, I can pan around when I create the video on my computer after I get home!
